Hidden (Deep Ops #1) was my first Rebecca Zanetti read and I am so pleased! I thoroughly enjoyed this steamy page turner. This is the first book in the series, and this is one you will want to dig into so you don’t miss a thing.
Pippa is hiding from her past, fearful to go into public and be discovered. She spends her time in her secluded home, and then her new neighbor moves in. He is tall, muscular and smoking hot, and she finds herself drawn to him despite her past and her fears.
Malcolm West is ready to retire from his undercover cop life. After a difficult case, its time for him to move on. Unfortunately other people have a different plan for him. Will he find himself thrown back into the life he was trying so hard to escape?
When Pippa and West find themselves thrust together, trying to survive and move forward from difficult pasts, they realize they have a chemistry that cannot be denied. What results is a high action, suspenseful, super-hot romance that will take your breath away and leave you desiring more.
I am a huge fan of thrillers and suspense and this book definitely delivered. There were many intensely passionate scenes as well. Zanetti did an amazing job of meshing it all together to create a thoroughly enjoyable and gripping suspenseful romance. I am so looking forward to getting my hands on book two!
Hidden is the first book in the new Deep Ops series and I freaking LOVED it!!
Pippa’s hiding. She’s virtually cut herself off from the world and lives in an isolated spot at the end of a cul-de-sac. She’s got one neighbor, a nice old lady who doesn’t ask a lot of questions and still offers friendship. Everything changes when the old lady moves out and Malcolm moves in. He’s an ex-cop suffering from PTSD and the very last person she should get involved with. But Mal is impossible to resist and all too soon, Pippa finds herself falling in love for the first time. Maybe he can help her live again?
Malcolm is looking for a little peace after his last undercover gig went down the crapper. While he got the bad guys, he paid a heavy emotional toll. He finds himself a neat little house, isolated aside from one hot neighbor. The more he learns about her, the more he knows that he should remain detached, but he can’t. What Pippa brings out of him is the best thing in his life and he can’t let her go. Can his redemption be found in helping Pippa and keeping her safe?
I loved this story so much. Malcolm was a scrumptious bada$$ alpha and Pippa came off as a bit introverted, but she was so brave and sassy. Even the side characters to their story were intriguing. I can’t wait to read their stories. I already see a burgeoning romance happening between two of them and I’m excited to see if they’ll eventually be paired together. Angus Force is the man who brought everyone together and his keen intelligence got me all hot and bothered. I hope he catches his killer in the end!
Amazing new romantic suspense! The story is just so so good and I am honestly not surprised. Pippa Smith has been hiding for 7 years now. Because of her fear of being spotted she pretty much never leaves the house. She’d been sort of okay with the solitude until her sexy new neighbor moves in and makes her want more out of life. Malcolm West is one sexy alpha ex-cop with demons galore. They find solace in each other’s arms; hot and steamy solace. But the real world, Malcolm’s new job and Pippa’s past all mingle together to wreak havoc on this new blossoming relationship that is sort of built on lies. But are their feelings real?? Once the truth is out can they work together along with Mal’s very interesting and amusing band of misfits, that includes a very unique dog and a pocket sized kitten, to confront and put a stop to the past that threatens to ruin Pippa’s life??
Another fantastic RZ series!! Can’t wait for Brigid and Raider next!!
When Pippa spots Malcolm (Mal) she has at least two embarrassing encounters in the beginning. Both times she was mainly trying to watch things without being seen. The when they do come face to face, she opens her mouth and says one of the most embarrassing sentences that she could. Heck, I felt embarrassed for her. But Malcolm was mainly amused! The emotions in the story were well expressed and there were plenty of them.
I really liked both of the main characters. They both had gone through some traumatic things. And as we read we find out that BOTH of them suffer nightmares. But there is also a really good romance that develops as does some pretty hot sex between them.
Angus Force, Wolfe, and the psychiatrist Dr. Nari Zhan are the beginning additions to the team members that Mal is “forced” to work with. And after awhile a few other interesting people get added to the team as well. Each one of them is a skilled but also really colorful characters. I think in the book Mal thought of them as an odd team. Which they truly were but they did begin to gel together pretty well.
I loved the unique dog Roscoe. He made for some funny and unusual moments. He is full of quirky ways. Which make him fit in really well with his human counterparts.
The whole story is tense, with all the action that a reader could hope for. And The Prophet who has been searching for Pippa? Clever, charismatic, manipulative and cunning. Oh and don’t forget cruel! Nothing is too far for The Prophet to go since he believes he knows the only way. Any who try to question him or cross him get punished and often disappear. The whole story ratchets up as things come to a head in the last few chapters. Twists, turns and surprises await as well as an explosive ending.
I really liked that there was an Epilogue added and there was a quick look into another book in this series. It looks like we get to know more about two of the last people added to the team. That would be Brigid Banaghan (computer hacker) and her unwelcome but hot handler, Raider Tanaka. It does look promising and is called “Fallen” the next Requisition novel.
On side note- I really liked the original way that the book blurb described this book. The eBook cover caught my attention as well.
I’ve read several books by this author and found she has quite the way with a story. She didn’t disappoint in this one either.
“I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion of it.”
I received a signed ARC copy from Rebecca at #RT2018! I could not put this book down! I was so sad that Malcom and Pippa’s story ended. Fantastic read!
*May have mild Spoilers*
OMG this book was so good! Look it’s no secret to anyone that knows me that I’m a huge Rebecca Zanetti fan. She is one of my top 3 favorite authors of all times. I have read and loved all the books in her Dark protector series, Sin Brother Series, and her Realm Enforcers series. So to say I was excited when I heard she was starting a new series, would be an understatement. Hidden was everything I hoped for and more. With a strong plot, a sexy bad-a%$ hero, a smart and brave heroine, likable secondary characters, and lots of action this book took me for one hell of a ride. I couldn’t put it down.
Malcolm was so yummy. He had some scars inside and out. A ex-undercover cop all Mal wanted was some peace to deal with the demons of his last case. Instead he got pulled into a new Team called Requisition Force. Because even though Malcolm didn’t want to go undercover again he did it so he could help save his sexy reclusive neighbor Pippa. Pippa was brave, smart and sweet. My heart bled for all she lived through. I loved Malcolm and Pippa together from the start. They had a ton of sexual tension and chemistry. And though they were both keeping secrets and lying to each other I still felt their relationship had real depth.
Being the first book in a new series it built up the world, and introduced the members RF. Let me just say I loved the team. Angus, Raider, Bridgid, Nari, and my two favorites Roscoe the alcoholic, high heel wearing dog, and the big sexy, slightly crazy, kitten loving, ex-lieutenant commander Wolfe! I want me a piece of Wolfe! Hell I want all of him! This book had the perfect amount of action and passion. There was also some great laugh out loud moments too. There was a cute quirkiness to the team that made them very endearing. I loved the cult part of the plot. Isaac the cult leader was creepy, crazy and just plain evil. Zanetti did a great job writing believable characters. I loved the camaraderie that I already felt with the team. I already feel very attached to the other team members and I can’t wait to read their stories. Especially Wolfe’s!!!!
Malcolm and Pippa just wanted live quietly on their own little dead end street. Mal was trying to adjust to leaving the force after his last undercover assignment and Pippa was trying to stay hidden from people out to get her from her past. As Pippa watches Mal move in next door, something about him just draws her to him. Mal is approached by the head of a new Homeland department to get close to Pippa but he refuses. Once he meets Pippa, he is convinced that she is innocent and is determined to prove it so he agrees to go undercover once again.
On the edge of your seat suspense and off the charts chemistry. Start of a great new series.
This book grabbed me from the beginning. Two people with “troubled” pasts being played by either the persons trying to harm them or the persons who want just one more favor. Watching them navigate getting to know each other and watching the feelings develop was awesome. There was a lot of once burned twice shy scenarios that I enjoyed seeing played out. Some of the twists in this book had me hanging on to my seat. I am definitely reading more in this series. If you are a fan of suspense then this book is definitely for you.
This is my first book of Rebecca Zanetti’s. This book gave me goosebumps. I could not put it down. I loved it. Pippa was so young and with a mother who was so lost in the cult. She had to run and run for her life just before her 18 birthday. Hiding for so many years. Malcolm comes into her life and changes everything. Their story was great and I am glad it ended the way it did.
Very enjoyable book. I recommend it highly.
What a great book. Rebecca Zanetti is a new author to me but I’m very glad I got introduced to her books. This one is the first of a series and it is a page turner. If this is any sign of what’s to come, I can’t wait for book #2. Thanks for a great read!
This is the first book in a new series and I am loving it. It starts with Pippa, who is hiding out in an area with only one neighbor visible. She is practically agoraphobic, has panic attacks, and is fearful of people and being seen. When her elderly neighbor sells her home, a large, intimidating man moves in next door.
Malcom left the police department where he had been undercover for two years with a mafia family. All he wants is to be alone with his physical and PTSD, but he is curious about his neighbor. But then someone shows up and he finds it wasn’t luck that he found this home, it was planned to put him close to Pippa.
Pippa and Malcom were the heart of the story, a very serious, intent story. However, there was an amazing cast of characters and lots of quirky things that lightened the mood. I was fascinated by Wolfe, who had been a Lieutenant Commander, just as Malcom had been police detective. Past tense. And then there was FBI Profiler Angus Force and Roscoe, his German shepherd. I’ve never met a pair like these two, Roscoe is one crazy dog.
I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
The first book in the new Deep Ops series by Rebecca Zanetti is an exhilarating, suspenseful page turning read with bold electrifying character that easily draws readers into their story. Pippa and Malcolm are alike in some ways but complete opposites in others to begin with, but readers soon realize that not everything is as it seems and the sizzling chemistry drawing Malcolm and Pippa together is right on track. The relationship has some serious obstacles to be overcome including emotional issues, trust issues and secretive pasts and the readers can’t help but empathize and cheer for this couple as they reach for a well-deserved happily forever after.
The romance is sweet and the passion is hot but this fast paced and smooth flowing plot has way more in store for readers. Thrills and excitement abound throughout this story as Pippa hides who she is and where she come from and Malcolm finds himself working undercover on a case that involves Pippa and her past. A few twists and turns keeps readers guessing and the anticipation building as everyone tries to determine if Pippa is one of the bad guys or is she a victim as well. I was completely enthralled in this story from beginning to end, the story is full of wonderful and quirky characters that adds a bit of humor to the story as well adding to the team building camaraderie of a new team’s beginnings, a motely crew of what some may day is undesirables. Oh wait, I can’t forget about the pets in this story as they certainly deserve some attention and a few chuckles, so this is for you Roscoe and Kat! Hellooooooo! meow!
Run, do not walk to the nearest bookstore outlet and purchase this book! It is off the charts good! Pippa is in hiding with some agoraphobic tendencies. Malcolm is her new next door neighbor. He is an ex-cop whose previous job of undercover had burned him out. Enter the new Requisition Team, a division of Homeland Defense, who want him to spy on his new neighbor. He is attracted to Pippa and wants to protect her, so he joins. The twists and turns of this book are great! Loved Malcolm and all the secondary characters, especially Wolfe who has a kitten named Kat, that he keeps in his pocket when he is not beating info out of the enemy! Cannot wait for the next book. This can be read as a stand alone. 5 amazing stars!
5 AWESOME, RIP-ROARING, PIPSQUEAK, ROSCOE LOVING STARS!!!!
I freaking devoured and adore this story. Zanetti is my go to author!! I’ve read her Dark Protectors series (still reading that series) and Realm Enforcers (miss that series, hope it gets revived, *hint*). I am never disappointed with any of her books. Like NNNEEEVVVVEEEERRRR!!! LOL! So in this next series we have Malcolm and Pippa and Wow! Just Wow! Filled with suspense, action, laugh out loud moments, hot intense sex (phew, so hawt) and the motley crew of Force, Wolfe, Nari, Raider, Brigid and most importantly Roscoe! If for no other reason that you should read this book, ROSCOE is an excellent reason and that’s all I’m going to say about Roscoe. Read it! Run fast, like super fast and get this book! It is phenomenally well written, with so many hidden nuances between the characters that you will be chomping at the bit to find out what is going on with each one of them. I am not revealing a thing about this book, except to say…GO GET IT NOW!
I enjoyed this read and with the excerpt at the end, I cannot wait for the next book! Yay!!!!
Okay, it’s no secret that I’ve loved everything I’ve read by this author but this book is definitely my favorite of them all. There is so much going on here and it’s got all the feels to go along with it. Once I started I couldn’t stop, and it’s not a short book.
I don’t want to give away a lot of the details because as the story unfolds and you learn all the little tidbits along the way it just pulls you further and further into this world of deep ops and secrets.
Pippa is living the life of a shut in when she first sees her new neighbor unloading boxes from his truck. She’s pretty much living her life in fear and he only exacerbates them, causing her to have a panic attack. However, she slowly begins to allow herself to open to him without revealing any real truth regarding her background. Soon she’s hot and heavy with the ex-cop and accepting everything he says as truth.
Malcolm suffers from PTSD after living a life of lies during an undercover operation. He’s never had anyone solid in his life before and finds it difficult to trust. Especially when he’s offered a new job. When the woman next door gets all tangled in his life he finds himself once again not really sure who he is anymore.
I really liked both of these characters. They were flawed but real and in the midst of all the drama surrounding them they struggle to do the right thing even when trusting each other is the hardest thing they’ve ever done. I loved watching Pippa morph from the frightened woman hiding in her home into one that took a stand against the thing that had terrified her for most of her life.
Malcolm was perfect in his need to protect her and his struggle to give her what she needed.
This has a lot of action as Malcolm and the team he’s recently signed on to work a case. The Requisition Force team was amazing! I can’t wait for you to meet them as they each have their own quirky personalities. Roscoe by far was the most entertaining. Truly, I’ve never read another character with such hilarious idiosyncrasies. And Wolfe is one I’m going to absolutely LOVE watching as the series progresses. I’m just completely gone over all of this unit’s members and they aren’t all just men either. Even the women have me curious to see what they might pull in the future.
I can’t recommend this book enough, especially if you like romantic suspense that is equal in both the romance and the suspense neither overshadowing the other.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Kensington Books. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rebecca Zanetti kicks off her new series Deep Ops with a bang in Hidden. Once again, Zanetti shows she’s a master at world-building. Her characters are beautifully damaged, but not broken.
Pippa is basically a shut-in, terrified of her past catching up to her. She closes herself off from not only her past but also her present and future. With a past like hers, it’s easy to understand why she wants to hide from the world. Malcolm is hiding as well, but his demons are harder to escape. He’s the best at what he did. He brought down a monster, but in the process, lost more than a little bit of himself.
Something amazing happens when these two damaged souls come together. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an accident. And here’s where Zanetti really shines. The cast of misfits she has created in Hidden is nothing short of amazing. By the end of the book, you’re as attached to them as you are her main characters. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t overshadow her protagonists as many authors do. They function to enhance the story.
Zanetti manages to hit the entire spectrum of feels. Her pace and time are spot on. She knows exactly when to break the tension. There were times I was on the edge of my seat worried about Pippa and Malcolm, and others laughing at the antics of some of her other misfits. I don’t want to give anything away, but I’m looking forward to the next one in this series!
I loved this book The characters were so well developed and sucked you in more as the pages turned. Pippa was a great character who had a bad childhood and had escaped from a cult. Mal was an ex-cop but was investigating the cult with another agency. There was lots of action and some suspense as the story unfolded along with some humor. Secondary characters were also well developed and made me want to read more about them. Along with interesting characters there was also Roscoe, a German Shephard with his own little quirks and great personality. I couldn’t put this book down! I look forward to the next book in this series!
Malcolm West is a retired detective who has been burnt out from being undercover. Battered and broken, he moved into what seemed to be the perfect little house on a cul de sac in the tiny town of Cottage Grove to spend his time licking his wounds and learning how to forgive and forget the things he had to do in his last undercover operation. His attention is immediately drawn to the woman next door, Pippa Smith. Quiet, shy, and seemingly frightened of leaving her home, Pippa intrigued Mal from the moment he met her cowering on the floor of her bungalow. He felt he needed to know more about his unassuming new neighbor. He receives a mysterious visitor from a secret branch of Homeland Security, Angus Force, who tells him his new neighbor isn’t who she appears to be. Pippa Smith is hiding a deadly secret and the only way to find out her innocence or guilt is to join his newly formed task force, a band of misfits and felons tasked with keeping the country safe from hidden danger.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I’m pretty impressed. Even though the blurb didn’t exactly grab me, the cover did. I’m glad I took a chance on this one.
Malcolm has some guilt. He’s an undercover cop who quit after his last operation went terribly wrong. He’s bought a house and just wants to recover quietly until he’s recruited by the Homeland Defense Unit who wants him to go undercover again. Not exactly his idea of recovery, but he takes the job anyway. Now he’s got to figure out what his neighbors deal is.
Pippa is running scared and a complete and total recluse. She’s hiding from the leader of a cult her mother joined years ago. Trusting others is something Pippa just doesn’t do well. In fact, there’s only one other person she trusts and she was part of the cult too. But after watching (spying) on her gorgeous neighbor, she just may find herself trusting more.
This book literally has it all. Lust, hot sex scenes, humor and suspense. And man oh man, the suspense is crazy good. This was so well written. I’m surprised this is the first time I’ve heard of this author. Best believe I’ll be picking up the next one. Well done!
