This was an easy-read book that allows you to relax as you get to know the characters. The main character, Mrs. Maisy, is a no-nonsense kind of woman who is witty and fun to read about. She embraces tragedy, comedy, and suspense throughout the story.
Bradshaw never disappoints
This was a easy read action packed book, very well written and keep’s you interested right to the end.
Maisie Fezziwig is quite a lady. Read for yourself and enjoy. Thanks, Cheryl Bradshaw, this was a treat!
Want to read more from this author!!!!
I am enjoying Miss Bradshaw’s books. She has become an author I am following
This was, without a doubt, one of the most entertaining cozies I’ve ever read.
Maisie Fezziwig is a retired medical examiner with a strong personality and a nosy-neighbor streak. The ME aspect is barely mentioned, but often enough to lend credence to the already plausible elements of her investigation. She’s uninhibited enough to have fun in life and ferret out information about people, including the two dead bodies, a couple who recently moved in a few doors down, discovered during a recon armed with a plate of baked goodies as a welcome gift.
The dialogue is easy and unstrained, the characters are three-dimensional, the humor appropriate to situations, and the mystery is straight-forward: no red herrings, no information or clues left out until the end — we have what Maisie has. AND no foul language to muck up the works– I love that.
Great read for a time-out weekend or visit to the beach.
I hope this is the first in a series. I’ll grab the next one in a heartbeat.
Wow! 70 years old and still sharp as a tack and feisty .
Great murder mystery. Love the characters.
I love Cheryl Bradshaw novels.Excellent author. I try to read everything I can that she writes. She never disappoints!!!
I loved the characters! It was realistic and unexpected. The plot was well thought out and the story kept moving.
This book was very good.
It involves murder, mystery and danger.
Love the characters,
Can you figure out who did it?
I loved Maisie’s quirky character.
Love all of her books!!
Cheryl never disappoints. I am a real fan. I loved the gumption of the lead character in this book. I’d read several chapters in one sitting, begrudgingly putting it down to go about my own life.
Didn’t know what to expect of a seventy year old retired female trying to solve a murder…because it isn’t a cozy cottage mystery. This is a great read, a modern type scary crime of home invasion with a baby left alone, Maisie as retired cop wanting to solve the case, and the people around the victims keeping secrets.
Maisie is a great character, can flip the bird, carry a gun, drink and fool around all at age seventy. Her husband died and she has been having “friends” and drinks a bit too often. But now a woman is missing, her husband dead, a baby left alone…in Maisie’s neighborhood….so she investigates
This is a solid mystery with detailed looks at the dead and their families and friends. And the police evidence is presented and followed up by Maisie. She still has her contacts in the police dept and her son happens to be the mayor. Oh my, her poor son! After working basically around men all her life, Maisie has a way with language that embarrasses her son and her sister. Maisie picks up on the silence and exchanged glances between people and moves in for information.
The college scene and parties is shown as is the relationship of drink, drugs and violence.
You feel as nervous as Maisie does when she finds her garage door open and tries to find out if anyone is in her home….because now she is receiving threats.
Her relationship to her husbands best friend is bittersweet and hit me hard. And her feuding with the detective in charge, MacDougal, is so dead on perfect. The fact MacDougal looks like Yul Brenner doesn’t hurt!
I was afraid it’d be a sort of funny, not serious mystery by a snoopy old woman…..this is a feisty broad, can carry and shoot, knows her stuff and still wants to be relevant and needed. Solid plot. Would love a second one by the author with Maisie.
Hope Bradshaw continues with this cozy mystery series!
Great heroine, retired from her job but not from life.
I haven’t read a book yet by Ms. Bradshaw yet that I don’t like she is a great writer! You’ll not be disappointed if you get any of her books! Really enjoyed this one, going by the title I thought what can this book be like but she didn’t disappoint me! I really don’t like to tell much about the books I read but this was a great read!
Fabulous writing, but I personally could have done without the intense sex scenes. Implied sex thrills me, not the explicit stuff. But, a really great story.
