One in a Thousand People on Planet Earth Have Supernatural Powers.
Friday Fitzsimmons is just trying to keep her family business afloat when she discovers a dormant power she didn’t even know she possessed.
Forced to train at a school for the supernaturally gifted, she’s thrust into the glamour of Icon City, a haven for those with powers. The citizens tune in every day to watch their own … their own reality TV channel where good fights evil for the city’s soul.
Friday, like hundreds of other “gifted” students, takes part in the show, but not everyone choses to use their powers for good, like the mysterious masked boy Friday keeps seeing, or the man on fire who calls himself The Figure In The Flames.
Struggling to support her family while coming to terms with her own guilt, Friday finally falls in love, but as events unravel she is forced to question her heart more than once. This may just be her chance to prove herself, but it’s not that simple.
It never is, is it?

Hero high is a young adult fantasy. It is a story of a young girl who is learning about her powers and is sent to a school to learn how to use her powers. This is a fast moving read, full of information I feel we will need in the following books. Along with learning to use her powers and discovering who she is it is also being filmed. A Lot going on but well worth the time no matter what age you are.
It will draw you in and keep you there.

Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara
4 of 5 Stars
This is a box set that includes three books from the ‘Hero High’ series, Denial, Anger and Bargaining.
The series is centred around, Friday Fitzsimmons who is one of the “One in a Thousand People on Planet Earth who have a Supernatural Power”. Friday is sent to ‘Hero High’, a school for the supernaturally gifted to train. The school is in the glamorous Icon City, a haven for all those with supernatural powers. However Hero High is not just a school for trainee superheroes it is also a reality TV show and one of many on the Hero Channel. As a ‘gifted’ student Friday has to take part in a reality TV show where good fights evil for the city’s soul. However not all the students use their powers for good, like the mysterious masked boy or the man on fire who calls himself The Figure In The Flames. Along with friend Jake, Friday struggles to come to terms with her new situation and her new powers all whilst battling her crippling anxiety. Luckily Friday has Captain Fantastic on her side.
Each book is a short read but packed full of adventure, with a fast paced storyline and each book continues Friday’s adventures at Hero High. I have come to love Friday over the three books and think she is a great lead character as she is very likeable and relatable as a character especially as she battles with acute anxiety. The world building is great and thanks to the authors wonderful descriptions I felt totally immersed in Icon City and Hero High. I thoroughly enjoyed all three books and found that as it was a box set I could just continue with Friday’s story in the next book straight away.
Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara filled with flaming five-star reads.
Denial is such a short read, I literally started it thinking I would read a couple of pages and then start some work, but I started it and finished it and then started the work. Friday is the main character and she will make you smile, she is such a firecracker, watching her story will just keep you hooked.
Anger is the second story in the setting of Icon city and its so well done, it suits the type of story and the characters well. This is the story of Friday Fitzsimmons and her second year of Hero high; she just gets more of a sublime character, watching her struggle with fitting in and anxiety, just makes the daily struggle a little easier knowing that others face it as well. This story will take your breath away, you will be kept guessing all the way through, my heart was pounding so hard at one point I didn’t realise how long I had held my breath, but I was so swept up in the story I couldn’t stop myself.
Bargaining is number three in the Hero High series and they are all so quick reads so you can read them all quickly, easily and enjoyably. Friday Fitzsimmons brings this story to life for me, I simply adore the character, there is something about them that juts keeps you on our toes, watching Friday deal with anxiety will help some deal with it, sowing them that they aren’t alone and how to recognise it. This is shaping to a very interesting and complex series that will surprise many.

Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara
I’m going to start off by saying if you haven’t read the first three books in this series you are truly missing out. Besides who doesn’t love a boxset. I devoured all three of these books ,although they are short stories the storyline kept me turning the pages. There are a few twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Friday Fitzsimmons and others are apart of a Reality TV channel where good fights evil. There’s even a The Figure in the Flames. There’s a bit of everything from action to danger to Romance. Follow along with Friday and the others as they go on this adventure. Grab this boxset to find out what happens next. I highly recommend.
Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara. This series has captured a bit of my heart, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this set not because it’s written poorly or anything but because it’s not my first reading type. But this author knows how to capture readers and keep us coming back for more. The characters are complex and relatable while taking you on an incredible journey. There’s definitely times I lost track of book world and real world. I had a hard time putting any of these away to join the real world again. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. Each book gets better and better. I’m anxious to see where the author takes readers next. Four stars and highly recommended!
Hero High:
Figure In The Flames
Books 1-3
By Mina Chara
Book 1
Denial
Welcome to the School for the Power People. Hero High provides all the things the students need. This is a different type of school you are used to. These high school students are told what to wear, as the school provides the clothes. The students are followed around by cameras and are told who they are to date. That being the case, they are paid for this. Good or bad the money is to help out their families. That is all I will tell you! No spoilers!
Book 2
Anger
Hero High is at it again. Follow along as you meet Figure in Flames and Dr. Dangerous. You will join in with new characters as the team and start a new adventure. The main characters stay in the back as they know they are being watched. Come on into the superstructure, just be careful! I refuse to give you any spoilers as I feel you will enjoy the story.
Book 3
Bargaining
This is a Young Adult fantasy story. This book should be read after Denial and Anger. Bargaining picks up where Anger left off. You are in the future built around the fantasy world. By reading the in order, you will become familiar with all of the characters. You will also find growth, as Friday tries to figure out what she really wants. Remembering Friday is also still being watched and is trying to lay low.
Mina Chara has continued to keep the YA’s entertained with this series. All 3 books are fast read, with plenty of excitement. They are a must read, loaded with fantasy and adventure. Included are the superheroes, all while keeping them reading. Big props to Mina Chara for encouraging teens to read. Adults would also enjoy this series as well. I have truly enjoyed this series. I will also be looking for more, to share with my teens.
Hero High: Figure In The Flames by Mina Chara. This is a 3 book series about a super hero high school and teenagers with super powers. Friday aka Fitz is 17 years old and is not the best at her superpower. She gets mad really quickly, has a super smart mouth and just a hint of anger issues but she is determined to keep her family business afloat and then she discovers she has this superpower. Thrust into the city of Icon that is a haven for those with powers. The high school is like a tv show that citizens tune into each day to watch their own reality show where good fights evil in their city. This is where we find that some kids don’t use their powers for good but for evil like the Figure in the Flames. Trying to do everyday life like schoolwork, boys and friends and then throw in super hero training its a lot! Will she be able to save her family’s business and succeed at being a super hero or will it all fall apart right before her eyes? This is a super fast paced young adult fantasy read that you won’t regret picking up!
Who doesn’t love a box set for some binge reading? Personally, I adore box sets and when authors make them available. I rather be able to read all the books at once and I love the ease that it gives me to gift an amazing series to friends and spread joy. I have read and loved all the Hero High books and love following along as Friday finds her way in this unique world Mina Chara has invented. Below you will find my review for each individual book, but I highly recommend grabbing this box set asap to find out all about Hero High for yourself! Happy reading!
HERO HIGH: DENIAL (BOOK #1) ~
This was my first read for me by Mina Chara. I will say that it was a good book overall and I appreciated the concept by the time I had it finished but it did take me a bit to get into the flow of the story. I think a lot of that was because this is a new series and the first book so we got a bit of set up information that may just have been a bit on the heavy side. Otherwise, this book is a quick read with a lot of surprise action that will keep you guessing until the end.
Friday is our main gal and she is currently in a predicament of learning that she has powers that set her aside from the typical seventeen year old. When her father learns of this he sends her off to a school far away from the family. She finds herself in Hero High and facing the new life her magic has formed for her. This is a short read but I still found myself reading past my bedtime to find out how things would eventually play out for Friday. I look forward to getting my hands on the next Hero High novel, Anger.
HERO HIGH: ANGER (BOOK #2) ~
This is the second book in the Hero High series from Mina Chara and I would highly recommend that you read the first book in the series before you start with this one. This book does pick right up where we left off with book one and the characters continue on through as well as grow as you read. This is a young adult book so written towards that genre and I rather enjoyed it still. This series packs a punch and gives you lots of different story tidbits to please just about any reader. Everything from adventure, action, drama, mystery and suspense is thrown in to keep you on the edge of your seat reading to find out if the characters will make it through whatever task they are plagued with at the time. I look forward to seeing where the story will go next in the next book to come.
HERO HIGH: BARGAINING (BOOK #3) ~
This series has really taken off with this third installment of Bargaining, Hero High book #3. I have read the other books in the series up to this one and I would recommend that you do as well to understand and follow the progression of things with Friday and the supporting characters. In this one we find Friday in a new slew of complications. Her best friend, Jake, and their relationship is falling to pieces, while the rest of the world around her seems to also be falling more and more apart each day. She has made great strides on the show and the producers have placed her in the Gold team but she starts to wonder what it really takes to be a hero and if she is going about things in the right way. I love how things seem realistic even for a dystopian novel, things could be possible and that makes the allure of these reads that much more drawing. I look forward to seeing what we will get next in the latest and newest installment in the series. I will definitely be back to see what will take place.
This series isnt at all what I expected it to be. This follows Friday an her at Hero High, which is being filmed as a reality show. A bit of futuristic, a bit of mystery, a bit of YA. I was definitely surprised that I enjoyed this series as much as I did! Plenty of fast paced action and laughs! You cannot go wrong reading this book series!!!
Hero High: Figure in the Flames is the first three novels in the Hero High series by Mina Chara. I really love this series. It starts with introducing the reader to the world of Superheroes. Specifically Friday Fitzsimmons, a first year student at the famous Hero High in Icon City. The world has changed since the first superheroes appeared. They are now celebrities, followed by cameras on their missions and fighting for popularity. The story is told in flashback with Friday recalling the tale to a writer (which is a style I really liked). Friday faces a number of trials while trying to decide which kind of hero she is going to be. Whilst also realising that not everything is as it seems in Icon City. This book has mystery, romance and action while also being funny and fresh. The main characters are (mostly) likable and as you read on you find out more about their lives. I recommend this book to fantasy lovers who are looking for something new. Very enjoyable read.
Hero High. Figure In The Flames. By Mina Chara. We follow Fridays story arriving at Icon City. A place for the magically gifted, which is also broadcast to millions via a reality television series. This was a great series to read, I really enjoyed following Friday along her way, she’s a very relatable character. I would say this series is suitable the early teen/young adult, I will be letting my daughter read it next. Great storyline, brilliant characters and lots of fantasy. Well done.
This is an amazing series, full of action and adventure and keeps you guessing.
Friday is a hero and she goes to Hero High. Shes part of tv show and with her mentor and team she gets trained in how to be a hero.
However things arent as straight forward as they seems when as well as her training Fridays has encounters with the Fire in the Flames and she has feelings for the worst person imaginable. But neither of these people are who she thinks they are which only confuses her even more.
Its an adventure from the first page and i cant wait to read the rest of the series.
Hero High: Figure in the Flames by Mina Chara is a unique and interesting story, looking at the idea of “super heroes” in a different way. This is the boxed set of the first 3 books in this series.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read the blurb of this book – I figured I was either going to love it or I really wasn’t. Thankfully I can honestly say I loved it. I really enjoyed that it was a different take on a super hero story as more exciting to read and gave the book a new depth to it.
The characters were all really interesting as they were all so different from each other.
This is a well written and fun series to read. I would definitely recommend it!
This is a superhero and Young Adult series by Mina Chara. We follow Friday on her journey into the superhero academy. Friday is a charcter you relate to emotional and feel for. If your a fan of fantasy, futrustic and empowering this is the series for you. It’s a fast paced book with plenty of offer.
Figure in the Flames is a collection of books 1-3 in the Hero High Series by Mina Chara. Having all 3 books in a box set was a great idea- each time I finished a book, I was scrambling for the next. This series introduces Friday Fitzsimmons and her super power. She needs to learn how to use her power and when. Leaning on friends is a good thing, until it’s not. Who will be in Friday’s corner? Trust me this is a great read if you like the super power genre. It is a YA book, but the way Mina writes, makes it for any age!
Figure in the Flames is a collection of books 1-3 in the Hero High Series by Mina Chara. I love that she made it into a boxset, because the books are cliffhangers, and I believe, should be all 1 book. Its 3 parts to the same story. I highly recommend this series, I’ve really enjoyed it. This is the first time reading this author, but I look forward to more. When I first started the series, I thought it was going to be cheesy because of the names of the city and characters. They were not very original, using names like Super Structure, Hero High, and Captain Fantastic. Despite that, I am glad I stuck out the story because I ended up loving it. The writing style is very descriptive and you feel like you’re right there alongside the characters. It seems like The Incredibles meets XMen.
The series starts out with Denial, which follows 17 year old Friday, who has super powers. She is shipped off to Hero High, which is a school for those with powers, but doubles as a reality show. They are followed by cameras, and merchandise is made to look like them and sold in the malls. These super kids are assigned a team and a mentor, have their wardrobes picked for them, the whole nine yards. They are constantly being filmed, dressed up for photo shoots and whisked off to PR events. Friday is trying to stay in the shadows, but keeps finding herself in the spotlight.
The next book is Anger, and it picks up right where Denial left off. This book is very short, and I read it in 1 night. This story continues telling us of Friday’s life at Hero High. There isn’t a lot I can tell you without possible spoiler alerts. Friday comes in contact with the new Dr. Dangerous again, and things escalate quickly. She is still looking up to her mentor Sense. And the weird love/hate relationship between Friday and Ashley continues.
Bargaining is book 3 was my favorite of the three. There is so much going on in this book! So many shocks and surprises, action packed. Friday wanted to stay in the background, but since day 1 has been up front and center. She feels like everything is going wrong. She keeps fighting with her best friend, and handler, Jake. Dr Dangerous, a superhero who is supposed to be dead, seems to have resurfaced (or a copycat) and has a fixation on her. And there is a man in flames that keeps showing up and causing trouble. There are so many shockers in this story, I don’t want to give anything away. I highly recommend and cannot wait to see what happens next.
This book was interesting from start to finish. It leads you down unexpected paths as you are seen through Friday’s lens. She’s in a reality show involving superheroes at a high-powered high school. In a fellowship where stardom is all around them as they come into their own as the champions they are.
Conquerors are all around them rescuing others around the clock. Captain Fantastic leads the famous heroes. Friday and Jake are both childhood friends who are recruited to be next in line to combat evil forces to save their world from destruction. Returning from the abyss, Doctor Dangerous and the Figure in the Flames, Captain Fantastic faces the ultimate betrayal.
Up against major forces including her childhood friends and believing in Doctor Dangerous, Friday must make a dire choice that could catapult her into stardom and rise above as the hero she is.
This beautiful world building trilogy keeps you on your toes and to a place you’d never imagined. These characters are lovable and worth the read as we go on an awesome adventure with them through every book. I’ve loved these books from the author. Fantastic reads!
I have loved each of these books individually and found the story to develop beautifully over the course of the series. Friday is a great main character. This is not your ordinary superhero tale. Once you start book one, you will want to read the rest. This box set is a must read. Look forward to reading more from this author.
4 Stars
Figure in the Flames contains the first three books in the Hero High series by Mina Chara. This is a Young Adult fantasy adventure story set in a ‘superhero’ high school- full of action, adventure, friendship, coming of age, danger, discovery, superheros, super-villains, reality TV, fame, responsibility, angst, and a little romance. The story set in a near future world, Icon City, and follows Friday Fitzsimmons on an incredible adventure.
When 17 year old Friday develops ‘powers’ she is sent to Hero High, where reality TV and superhero high school collide- and where Friday’s adventures begin. Get set for things to get interesting…..
So, if you love young adult reads with fantasy, adventure, and superheroes- then this is definitely a series you won’t want to miss.
Thank you, Mina Chara!
