Terrifying and thrilling with a fantastic ending. Domestic suspense at its best.
Completely compulsive.
To quote one of my favorite memes: [Reading this book] is like riding a bike. Except the bike is on fire and you’re on fire and everything is on fire and you’re in hell. Which is exactly how I felt while reading this book. Oh my gosh. I picked this book from Amazon’s First Reads list for the month, because, at the time, I thought it would be a scary thriller and I was trying to branch out a little bit in reading more of that genre. Yeah, I wish I had picked something else. On the one hand, snaps for the author for writing with such detail and imagery that had my nerves on edge from page 1. I definitely had no problem becoming immersed in Elliot’s world (including his home that resides on the unsurprisingly appropriate Cuckoo Lane) which is usually a plus in my book when I’m reading. On the other hand, the plot and the characters were all driving me up the wall. I mean, well done to the author, because I may or may not have been more anxious than the main character as time went on with his crazy in-laws. I spent half the book wanting to tell Elliot to just take his wife and leave, and the other half debating on whether to even finish the book or not because I couldn’t handle reading about the in-laws anymore.
I read someone else’s review calling this book a trainwreck & I completely agree. The characters are infuriating and you just want to slap some sense into them.
Here To Stay is a psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns, and an unexpected ending. Great read for fans of suspense novels.
This is a slow-moving story that really pulls you into the life of the main character. As the story builds, the tension grows. Although the story was predictable, and I saw the end coming a few chapters into the book, I still really enjoyed it. It’s a good read, and I recommend it.
Edwards does a fine job of ratcheting up the tension, chapter-by-chapter, until his great closer. Excellent thriller.
I never thought I’d see the day when The Magpies got replaced as my favorite Mark Edwards read, but here it is. This book was everything. It truly made me feel every single emotion right along with Eliot. It was one of those situations where you’re like…how did we get here? How did things go so wrong so quickly? Reading this book made me never want to let anyone stay at my house ever again. That’s what I love about Edwards’ books…he promises to give us stories where ordinary people experience terrible things and that is exactly what he does. Eliot could’ve easily been any of us…if that isn’t enough to keep you up at night, I don’t know what is. This book is one that deserves more than 5 stars!
Definite five star book! The storyline is intense to the point that I was getting anxious and had to walk away a couple of times. I read it in a couple of hours, it was that good. I actually went back and bought six more of this author’s books.
