This is my first story by Ginny Sterling but it won’t be my last.
I loved this story of Alice and Colton. It’s fun, a bit crazy and amazing all rolled into a good take on marriage, love and learning new things as a wife of a farmer. Alice grew up in a home where she never had to learn about life as a wife that actually needed to cook, keep a home, do laundry and take care of a toddler and many more things. But she had to learn these things and she hadn’t really learned much of anything, yet her husband ate the food that wasn’t edible, looked past the messy house, and did everything go avoid her since she cried all the way home after they wed too quickly all because she made a terrible decision while taking care of Colton’s son one day by herself.
You have to get this next book in the fantastic series called The Bride Herder. It’s a great and funny series of you haven’t read any of them yet. This is book 6 so get reading the first five first, then this one and all of them. I highly recommend this whole series but you have to read the first one before all the others to find out how this crazy matchmaking service started. You will love this series, and you will want to read them in order but get to this one as it’s so good. They are all so good and I can’t wait for the next one.
Alice has lost everything in life but her sister. Now they are forced to get married but is the one she’s matched up with the one for her. Colton needs a wife to help with all the work and to take care of his son Jacob. She has to learn everything and isn’t sure she will ever handle it. But the connection between them is there, will love also come around?
Reading about the challenge to learn everything and the strange habit of Jakob makes this an entertaining story.
You have to feel sorry for Alice. Circumstances have forced her completely out of any comfort zone she might have had. Colton fell for her good looks but the help he was hoping for, she has no idea how to cook or do any chores. This was a fun book to read as they find their way through their hasty marriage.
Alice Bowen and her sister Abigail have traveled to become Mail Order Brides. Bent, Colorado is vastly different from their hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, but they have lost everything after losing their parents. They are devastated and feel this is the only opportunity for them. In losing their parents, an animosity between the once close sisters has developed. Alice really misses their closeness.
Alice is paired with Colton Farmer, a man who is a widower with a small son that has been having some behavior issues since losing his mother.
Back in Baltimore, Alice was sought after and enjoyed a full social life. Here in Bent, she has very few friends. While out walking, she slips, falls and lands on her backside next to a wagon driven by the most handsome man she has ever seen. Is it fate?
She knows nothing about life on a farm, being a housewife and last but not least, she knows nothing about children. She is willing to learn… She has yet to meet Mr. Farmer…
What will happen when Alice is quickly maneuvered into a wedding… due to extenuating circumstances? What more can go wrong in Alice’s life? Has she made a devastating mistake? This book is a must read. I found the characters to be the perfect balance of love and laughter.
The antics that Alice goes through to make Colton notice her and realize that she is happy to be his wife had me laughing throughout the book.
Colton’s son Jacob is such a little stinker, but he is just searching for the missing love in his once happy life. Will Alice be able to fill the void left in this little boys life when his mother passed away? I am fast becoming a big Fan of Ginny Sterling. Her books are heartfelt and beautifully written.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
It would be hard to go from being the “Belle of the Ball” in Baltimore to losing everything and then having to go to the “middle of nowhere” Colorado and try to make your way. Options were limited in the 1800’s for young ladies who lost everything. That’s the situation that Alice and Abigail (sisters) find themselves in when there is a big fire and they lose their parents and all they own in Baltimore. Suddenly, they have nothing, not even their reputations! What’s a girl to do? Why turn to being a mail order bride, of course!!! They see no other option! This story is about Alice though, Abigail’s story comes later although she is in this story as Alice goes to her often for advice. Alice gets “matched” with a farmer named Colton, who is a widower with a young boy who is out of control. Alice knows nothing about being a farmer’s wife or being a mother! That’s where the story gets interesting! You’ll have to read it to find out what happens. I felt so sorry for Alice. She was raised to be a lady and didn’t have a clue about how to run a household, how to cook or how to manage a young boy! I wanted to jump into the book and help her! Can’t wait for Abigail’s story!
Love this book! Great characters, I felt sorry for poor Alice but really was rooting for her through the whole book. So many funny parts to the story plus a great romance. I didn’t want the book to end, I enjoyed everything about it!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
