An impoverished debutante who signs a mail-order bride contract to avoid financial ruin and the rugged cowboy determined to save her from such a disastrous decision… her matchmaker and his lovely new wife to find her the perfect groom. In fact, it makes the task next to impossible!
Kane Jameson, cowboy by day and innkeeper by night at the Black Barrel Inn, sees no point in marrying and settling down any time soon. Life is one big adventure, and he’s fairly certain it doesn’t begin and end in Brownsville, Texas
Until Bert Langston bursts uninvited into his group of friends at a town picnic to join their debate about the future of air travel. He finds himself so enchanted by her careless beauty and much-wrinkled gown that he accepts a dare from his brother and business partner, Griff, to do whatever it takes to capture her attention on a more personal level — as her next suitor!
NOTE: This title was originally part of the Bride Herder Series. It has been rewritten to be a sweet historical standalone romance.

Kane Jameson the Bachelor, was happy in his life, that is until he met Bertha/Bert Langston. She intrigued him to no end. He couldn’t understand it. He had no intentions of settling down with a wife any time soon! What about this woman had him doing things he never imagined! Offering to help her build a Hot Air of all things!
Bert came to Bent Colorado to become a Mail Order Bride. Her family couldn’t afford to have her with them anymore now that she was of marriageable age. They still had younger kids to feed and care for and She felt she needed to leave to help her parents out. She was awkward in the sense that she felt in her heart that she would remain a spinster her entire life, but passionate and glowing when she discussed flight and air travel. Who will Bert find to make her happy? Jo Grafford’s characters breathe life into her books and they grab you and bring you right into the book. You will definitely enjoy this book.
I am truly enjoying this series. and the many authors that are bringing us the stories are fast becoming favorites of mine.
I received an ARC of this book and am choosing to leave an honest review.
Kane- Rancher by day and inn keeper by night.
Bertha/Bert- invetor with love for air travel… especially hot air balloons .
I enjoyed reading this uplifting and intriguing story that is fantastically written with lovable characters and witty dialogue. I love the h she was very intelligent and independent but not over the top or annoyingly so. The H was the perfect guy for her and trusted her and her mind/ideas. Their story has a winningly sweet HEA!
Herd The Heavens is a story full of “hot air”. It is a high flying story of a mail order bride that doesn’t like the lessons of how to be a proper wife. She would have been what we refer today as a tom boy which was giving the matchmakers a run for their money. But as the old saying goes, for every woman there is a man and she found hers in Bent, CO. It just was not the one the matchmakers were trying to put her with. Kane was willing to try things without fear. Be it a bull in a rodeo or a hot air balloon. Bert loved that about him. And Kane did not like prissy women, and Bert definitely would not fit in that category! The ups and downs of their courtship made the hard landing a little bit easier for them. A very entertaining book full of laughter and showing that women could do more than “keep house and have babies”.
Herd The Heavens is such a great book I started reading this and couldn’t put it down such a great page turner! Bertha Langston is far more interested in tinkering with inventions than becoming a bride. Her passion is hot air ballooning. If you haven’t read this you need too such a great book And the Author is a great writer I gave this a 5 star because it is such a great read!
Finding someone to love you unconditionally and accepts you for who you are and supports you no matter how strange or weird you are is definitely rare nowadays. This book will show you what true love and unconditional love means. No rules and no gender.
Bertha doesn’t want to get married but she’s to leave home. The Bride’s Herder sets her up with a man that wouldn’t fit her, but when she overhears a conversation about air travel she meets Kane. He doesn’t want to get married either but craves adventure. Can they help each other to get the adventures they both want to have, for a short time or maybe a lifetime?
Really fun story with some background information of hot air ballooning during that time period.
Danni Roan grabbed me with the opening of chapter one. I could totally picture Miss Bigsby except I had her much older. With her frequent referral to herself as a “old spinster” I was surprised by her true age of mid 30’s. I could picture the “oversized” Rock with the petite Mary Ellen. Their courtship was so gentle and gradual, that it was no surprise that he almost let her get away. I totally recommend this book.
So fun to read about something different – a woman inventor and hot air balloons in the 1800’s! It was a great story because I loved Bert’s personality. She had such a hard time being a “typical woman” in those times. All she wants to do is be an inventor, not wear fancy woman clothes and not have to carry a conversation with a man for flirtatious reasons. Then there is Kane, a rancher & owner of an inn. He doesn’t want to get married until he does all the things he wants to do. The two of them team up to build a hot air balloon because Bert is so in love with this “new technolgy”. I just adored the two of them and especially how Kane supported all that Bert did. It wasn’t popular in those days but he didn’t care. That’s love!
I love Bert and Kane’s story!! Enjoyed how they worked together, and how Bert couldn’t really tell what was going on, and then when she did, wow!! Love the way they worked things out. Great read!!!
