His Wranglers fit him like a glove. A really tight, leaving nothing to the imagination, glove. Codie wants nothing more than to shove that Wrangler-covered butt straight into the mud.Ace Valentine has a smart mouth, a devil-may-care attitude, and those wicked eyes aimed directly at her.She doesn’t know what to do with that kind of attention. Especially not from the sweet-talking man that has no … sweet-talking man that has no problem charming every woman that enters his orbit—everyone but her, at least.
Ace isn’t sure why Codie Spears had her panties in a twist when it comes to him, but every snub and insult she hurls his way brings him closer and closer to falling for her.
He’s not sure what it is about the town’s bad girl that draws his attention, but every encounter they have leaves him wanting her until there’s nothing else left to do but have her.
The only thing is, she’s been convinced by everyone around her that she’s not good enough. Tell a person that she’s a piece of trash enough times, and eventually she’ll start to believe it. It’s going to take a lot of smooth-talking and gentling on his part to get her to see that she’s worth it. And once he has her where he wants her? Well, she’ll make a mighty fine rancher’s wife.

Ah, Ace! Finally, we get to know the Valentine boys, and I love Ace & Codie together. : ) This was a quick read full of horses, bulls, family, friends, food, & just the right amount of steam! LOL : )
So I think everyone knows that this author is like my favourite favourite author. And now she wrote a cowboy story… Whoop Whoop
Codie Spears didn’t have a good childhood, she was the bad girl that everyone was warned about. Acting out was what she did, until a tragedy happened in their town and she changed her life. Now she’s back in Kilgore Texas helping her grandfather after a illness. Not that she wanted to be, but that’s what you do for family.
And this is also brings Ace Valentine into her world. Her grandfather asked Ace to help her with the delivery of the cows, and boy did he make her heart beat a little faster. But Codie knows that she and Ace are not meant to be, after all she was ‘Trash’ and he was the golden boy of the town.
Ace Valentine knew about Codie Spears, and he wasn’t entirely happy when her grandfather asked him to help her out, but he was a good neighbour and besides he didn’t need trouble or complications in his life right now. And according to rumour Trouble was her middle name. But he wasn’t prepared for the impact she had on him and the fact that maybe a little complications wasn’t that bad, right!!
I absolutely loved this first book in the new Valentine series. If you read her Swat series then you will know that Ace is the brother of Nico’s wife and the tragedy that happened in their family was just heart breaking, so you could understand why Ace was hesitant to get involved with anyone. But Code was just a bit too much for him to resist. This story was filled with sweetness, romance, some sad moments and lots of drama but definitely a book that I will recommend 100%
“And for anyone else wanting to know, I love Codie Spears, and she’s moving in with me,” Ace declared loudly. “And I don’t care if y’all think she’s a troublemaker. She’s my troublemaker.”
There be luscious cowboys… with chaps!
Oh and the story was pretty great too. The Valentine brothers are going to take me on a wild ride if Ace and his Codie are any example! They both had pasts they were trying to overcome and they were going to heal, one quirky, funny, heat-filled encounter at a time…
Codie was a wonderful mix of confidence and uncertainty. She’d been a bad girl but it was Ace’s biggest tragedy that set her on a good path. Reluctantly returning to a hometown that wasn’t welcoming was low on her list of happy things but Ace was going to change her attitude. One steamy gym session at a time…
Ace was a cowboy with all the wonderful traits I think of when I picture a good man with a warm heart and the solidness of an honest man. He loved his family, his home and had his eye on a whirlwind that looked like city but had home painted on her heart…
Quirky characters, family shenanigans, jokes, sarcasm, and deep emotion had me glued to every page. I didn’t want to stop for a second as Ace and Codie’s banter, their highs and lows-infused courtship, took hold of my heart. Be prepared for humour and heat and heart-pinging galore because this story gave all the feels….
I didn’t want the story to end but that just means there will be more to come!

Can’t wait to see what comes of this new series! This series is a little different, as it doesn’t necessarily focus on the typical group that her books follow, but at the same time they still interact with them and intertwine. After a somewhat troubled childhood, Codie has turned her life around after moving to the big city, but after her grandfather’s health starts declining she makes the decision to return to small town life. Ace’s family is notoriously known in town for what his father did to their family, but years later they have returned and are determined to restore their land back to what it once was. I couldn’t get enough of these characters, especially since with this being the first book in the series, and we get a lot of establishing information to familiarize ourselves with the Valentine family. I loved the relationship between Ace and Codie and how they were so extremely supportive of each other no matter what. There wasn’t much of a mystery or suspenseful situation within this story because it was more establishing, but it was a great read nonetheless and I can’t wait to see who’s next (hopefully Codie’s best friend)!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Nothing gets your pulse racing like a good cowboy romance. Herd That brings us back to The Valentine Boys and the memories that they try to escape. Codie was the bad girl, the one that had a reputation that proceeded her, but sometimes a little troublemaker might be just what the doctor ordered for Ace Valentine. Just enough tight wrangler jeans, cowboy hats and boots and hard working men to leave you a little breathless and wanting to saddle up and head to Kilgore. Codie brings the sass, understanding and a lot of fun to a property full of men. Their love story will have you misty eyed, laughing and falling head over heels in love.
4.5 Stars
This is the first book for the Valentine Boys and boy was it a good one. I was hooked right from the beginning. There are some sad notes in the book, but watching both Codie and Ace was beautiful. Codie is back in town and it’s not all sunshine and roses. I love the way Ace makes Codie feel. That was one of my favorite things about this book. I also loved the humor. I was laughing and chuckling a lot while reading this one. I’m really looking forward to the rest of those Valentine Boys. I would highly recommend this one because you’ll have a hard time putting this one down. I know I did!!
I have been waiting for the Valentine Boys to get their series since I first read Double Tap. These boys have a horrible past story but a loving sister, now I can’t wait to see them get their HEAs. Up first is Ace Valentine.
This yummy sexy alpha cowboy is so not ready for his neighbor next door but he is ready to protect her. Cobie just wants to help her grandfather but never thought the man in the Wranglers was the man for her.
I’m still working my way through Lani’s backlist, but this was a great change from the cop-romances. Like everything I have read from this author I got sucked in and didn’t want the story to end. I so looking forward to the rest of the Valentine Boys books.
Ace has been through a painful past and is a cowboy. Codie has always been the town’s bad girl and told she’s not good enough by everyone. Ace can’t get her off his mind and is attracted to her. The couple have much to overcome from their pasts. Can they come together and find happiness? A good read and start to a new series.
Oh man I don’t normally read cowboy books but man oh man Lani can deliver. These Valentine men are ones you aren’t going to want to miss. Not only are they sexy as hell but the past that they overcome or learn to leave behind is one that will have you rooting for them to find their happy ending.
I couldn’t help but fall for Ace. At first he seems like an a-hole but he made the mistake of listening to the stories the town says about Codie. Once he gets to know her, hell once you get to know her you can’t help but to love her as well. Unfortunately, she doesn’t feel as good about herself and the town sure doesn’t help at all. If he wants to be with her he has his work cut out for him.
This was such a great start to this series. No joke you are going to love all the main characters and love when the nasty people get theirs. Another don’t miss book and I can’t wait to get the next in The Valentine Boys series.
H-O-T Cowboys in my favorite Hot COP town you will not want to put down!!!! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
So if Lani Lynn Vale didn’t have me with her other series about Kilgore she defiantly has me now! The Valentine brothers are H-O-T!!! Starting off with the oldest!!! Ace is fearful that he will be his father and doesn’t want to find love! Codie is the bad girl from high school that comes back to take care of her grandfather and feels that the entire town still thinks of her as the screw up! These two are living on their family’s farms next to each other and the pull between them is not just the animals running away but the sparks that keep flying. Will these two be able to move past the baggage from their past? You will want to read this and see some familiar faces from Kilgore throughout the book!
A great start to the series. I liked the cowboy spin.
The characters Ace and Codie are great together. Codie was sweet and a little goofy, trying hard to fit back in while she looked after her granddaddy. And Ace was hot stuff, who wouldn’t like him? Well Codie does but he just get her in a twist when he’s near. He’s not so sure she likes him at a all.
What a conundrum.
There’s a great story to be told here let me tell you. Loved this one and can’t wait for more Valentine Boys.
A definite must read!
LLV has quickly become one of my favorite authors to read from, her stories are fresh and I always fall head over heels in love with her main characters. I know that a lot of her series especially the ones that take place in Kilgore have various connections and I’m going to need someone to draw everything up for me.
I’ve gotta say, this new cowboy series just might be my kryptonite because LLV lovedddd giving us all the glorious details of Ace Valentine. My oh my, Codie was in for a treat.
Ace is extremely-hardworking, has a completely heartbreaking story and he’s striving to make the best out of everything. And then we have the wild child that is Codie, he gets so much crap, which I didn’t fully understand why she got all this hate. But in the end, she AND Ace said what needed to be said to all the gossip birds in town.
I loved that that these two grew together throughout the story and they became better because of it. LLV knows how to write this very unique stories that has me devouring every single word.
It looks like I’ll be going back to reading her other series to make all the connections! Sooooo happy about this series and I’m ready for book 2!

Lani Lynn Vale
What a wonderful start to this series! We first met the Valentine family back in the KDP SWAT series when sister Georgia and Nico got together. Well, let me tell you that Lani Lynn Vale has a way of weaving all of her series together and it is great to see old characters meet new. Ace is on hot AF cowboy. Codie is a city girl that needs help…the rest as they say is history!!!
If you are fan of Lani Lynn Vale then you may remember Ace Valentine from Nico & Georgia’s book Double Tap, in the KPD SWAT Collection. Ace was Georgia’s little brother. In Herd That, Ace Valentine gets to take his turn as the sexy Alpha Male lead to Codie Spears’ quirky, reformed bad girl next door. This is a super sweet & sexy, small town cowboy romance and I loved it! We got to Breedlove revisit a few old faces from previous books and meet a whole new group of Valentine brothers & friends that I am hoping to read more about soon!
Lani Lynn Vale always give me a juicy, quick easy read that I love. There are no cliff hangers and the epilogues always give me a happily ever after! The perfect romance book
Just when I think Lani can’t make another irresistible man, she proves me wrong. Every. Time. Herd That has some much damn sweetness and love in it. You can’t help but fall head over heels for Codie and Ace.
We all know Ace’s history, and damn it him and his brothers need a HEA. Codie gave Ace his. She is absolutely perfect for him.
Herd That blends sweet, sexy, and hope so well that you will be crying happy tears when it’s over.
5 I’ve Got New Cowboys to Love Stars!!!
Another perfect start to a new series by Ms. Vale and I loved everything about this book! Ace and Codi are so perfect together. They’ve both withstood some emotional and physical traumas that we discover as the story develops. What I also loved so much was Codie’s humor. Her ability to say one-liners that no one is expecting had me rolling, especially when it comes to some of the animals on the ranch and a certain pair of gray sweatpants!
What can’t be denied though is the attraction these two have towards each other. But what had me hurting was that Codie is a woman that has made some bad decisions which have had life-long effects on her and seeing Ace work his way through them to get her to understand she’s lovable was truly beautiful to watch.
For his part, Ace and his brothers are cowboys that I have absolutely fallen in love with. Not only are they full of you know what, but they’ve also created a pseudo-family with their military family as well and this comes into play in this story! They’re bringing their family’s ranch back to what it once was and as they do this, there are revelations that surprised them as well!
This book moves at a pretty rapid pace and not once did I feel like it was being rushed. I just kept reading and laughing, shedding the occasional tear and then laughing again, and the swooning was off the charts! There’s no lack of chemistry between our H/h and they’re ON FIRE when it comes to the sexy times!!
I’m so excited for the next book in this series because I already know I have an affinity with Desi!!
Oh my goodness, this book was fantastic!! I love how this author can write a new series but they still interconnect with her previous series. We met the Valentine men in Nico and Georgia’s story and I fell in love with each and everyone of them. Because they are Georgia’s sister we learn the heartbreaking tragedy that befell all of them causing them to move away. Now they are back and Ace is running the family’s ranch. He keeps himself busy practically running himself ragged to escape the memories being at the ranch has brought up. Codie dropped everything and moved from Dallas to take care of her ailing grandfather. She was a troubled youth and couldn’t wait to escape Kilgore and all of the bad memories it held for her. When they first meet you could feel the chemistry between the two. Ace has to convince her to take a chance on him even with his family’s past. Codie doesn’t think she’s good enough for Ace with her checkered past. Can these two put their past’s aside and just be together without all of the recriminations? Way to start off the series with a bang, I can’t wait for the next installment of the Valentine boys!!!
Herd that…Valentine Bull
Codie returns to Kilgore to help her grandfather out, after he suffers a heart attack Now, she’s doing her grandfather a favour by taking some cows to be sold and to meet with Mr Valentine to help her. However, Mr Valentine turns out to be Ace Valentine….super sexy cowboy
I loved this storyIt was really nice to deviate from the usual law enforcement stories even though a few SWAT members made their presence known in this story I’m hoping the next story is Desi and Callum….I can’t wait to see what happens next
Codie and Ace are a cute couple once they get together. Before that happens though Codie cracks me up, especially with the horse that doesn’t like her. Watching Codie with Ace is funny and sweet but also makes you feel bad for her. Ace’s past is heartbreaking but he’s worked hard to overcome it.
This a very fast paced book, falling in love was seriously fast would have liked to see it a bit more drawn out but that’s just my personal opinion. The whole book was a fast read for me and like all LLV books I had a smile on my face more often than not.
Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I adored this book and the characters, Lany Lynn is my go to author when I want something light, funny and sweet!
