His Wranglers fit him like a glove. A really tight, leaving nothing to the imagination, glove. Codie wants nothing more than to shove that Wrangler-covered butt straight into the mud.Ace Valentine has a smart mouth, a devil-may-care attitude, and those wicked eyes aimed directly at her.She doesn’t know what to do with that kind of attention. Especially not from the sweet-talking man that has no … sweet-talking man that has no problem charming every woman that enters his orbit—everyone but her, at least.
Ace isn’t sure why Codie Spears had her panties in a twist when it comes to him, but every snub and insult she hurls his way brings him closer and closer to falling for her.
He’s not sure what it is about the town’s bad girl that draws his attention, but every encounter they have leaves him wanting her until there’s nothing else left to do but have her.
The only thing is, she’s been convinced by everyone around her that she’s not good enough. Tell a person that she’s a piece of trash enough times, and eventually she’ll start to believe it. It’s going to take a lot of smooth-talking and gentling on his part to get her to see that she’s worth it. And once he has her where he wants her? Well, she’ll make a mighty fine rancher’s wife.

Good start to the series.
This book was a quick read and a good start to this series. There are characters from LLV’s other series, so you get various connections.
I have to admit that I felt parts of the back story were missing – maybe because I haven’t read everything from the other series or maybe not. I also felt the story was a little rushed to the HEA. That being said – Lani Lynn Vale writes a good story no matter what and this one was enjoyable.
Ace Valentine is your dream cowboy – although a little scarred from his tragic past – he is loyal, hot, and steady. Codie Spears is a bit of a mess, but she is also scarred from her past and needs the confidence that Ace can give her to become her own woman.
Although fast – watching these two fall in love was cute to see. I’m looking forward to Book 2 as the broken souls who need fixing continues…
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is another great book from Lani Lynn Vale. This is the story of Codie and Ace. Codie is back in her old hometown that holds no good memories for her to her grandpa needs help with is prize bull. She had a reputation in this town as a trouble maker as she was little wild in high school and that reputation never left her. Now she is moving a trailer full or cows in a thunderstorm and runs into trouble but Ace comes to the rescue. Ace who is working his butt off at his families ranch to get them back in the black after experiencing a tragedy that would have destroyed most families. He and Codie want the same bull at auction and she outbids him. But she doesn’t know that she was bidding on the bull by the pound and therefore is now in debt and a mess. However she just might be in over her head again and she and Ace will be spending a lot of time together. And that is the magic of this book. It is adorable and heartwarming and smoking hot. You guys are going to fall so in love with these characters and this book. I could read it over a million times and never get tired of it.
At the end of the year I just read the First Swat Generation books ( I bought the bundle) and Nico and Georgia’s Double Tap book made me cry. Her story is so emotional and I am glad Lani Lynn Vale decided to giver her brothers their story now. The Valentines boys are a crew and they have been through a lot. However, they are sweet and strong and face their demons. Codie Spears was the city of Kilgore’s bad girl and have been through a lot too, but now is an exemplar citzen and is helping her grandfather at their farm. Ace Valentine is a good guy who suffered a lot and is now just trying to get by and build his farm with his brothers and friends. They are so sweet together! I loved how Codie and Ace help each other and are very sexy too!
You will love this new series and their characters.
This was a phenomenal start to this new series from LLV and if you have read her SWAT series then you would have already met younger versions of these hot cowboys!!
Once I started this I was hooked and it made a very enjoyable lazy Sunday afternoon reading!
This book features Ace Valentine, the oldest Valentine boy who will seriously make your heart skip a beat and will make you swoon! Codie Spears is the girl next door who once he meets, he instantly knows he wants this girl!!
I loved Codie but my heart broke for her. Yes she had made some stupid mistakes as a teen but the town is unforgiving, feeding her insecurity that shes not good enough.
Despite this being a new series and slightly different, in the fact that it centers around cowboys, its still interwoven in this brilliant Kilgore world that LLV has developed and grown. Its lovely seeing some of my old favourite familiar faces make an appearance.
I feel hard for These Valentines boys and can’t wait to see what LLV brings us next with these hot Cowboys.
A new series by Lani Lynn Vale. Book 1 is about Codie and Ace. Ace is the bad boy cowboy neighbor that can’t seem to stay away from Codie. But Codie has heard too many “bad” things to fall for Ace’s charm. A fun, sassy read that makes you want you own cowboy! A great start to a new spin off series.
Codie has been told she is trash all her life, so when Ace comes up and wants her to see more than what the town thinks can she get past the old hurts and bias? Wow, Ace is one hell of a man and I love how he sees Codie as she truly is. Codie has so many insecurities and does her best to live her life but when Ace tips everything upside down, I love how they battle. This story was amazing and kept me glued to every word. I highly recommend this book, series and author as she will blow you away with every word.
Herd That starts off with a funny bang and never lets up! How can you not love a story that includes a hot cowboy, a sassy woman and an entertaining storyline? I know I can’t and this book had all that and more.
This is the first book in The Valentine Boys series but you will get to see some of your favorite characters from her other series too which definitely adds to the enjoyment of reading this story!
Ace and Codie grew up in the same small town but had both moved away to get away from the town and away from their pasts, but now they are back and all grown up and boy the sparks are flying right from the start!
This is the 1st in a new series and is Ace and Codie’s story. Ace is the eldest of the Valentine boys, and Codie is back in town to her help her grandad. There is instant chemistry between these two, but can they move past demons and obstacles in their path? This is a well written riveting tale which is sweet, fun, entertaining, and steamy. I was hooked and intrigued throughout, and I highly recommend for all readers.
Gahhh…I love Lani books! I recently read her and fell in love. So then of course, I had to binge read all her books. I love me some cowboys. They are probably my favorite to read. Something about a hardworking, fine, swoonworthy man in wranglers and boots just gets me. LOL. But anyway this book was awesome. Lani did a wonderful job with it. I loved the characters and their banter. I liked how it never lost pace and the flow kept me going steady all the way to the end. Great book!
Ok, so this series seems like it’s going to take place before the last 2 series’s that have released. It took me a second to get my bearings straight with it but once I did I loved seeing all my favorites and seeing Ace finally get a story. The Valentine family had been through so much (which we know from Nico & Georgia’s story) but seeing how he dealt with it. My heart but broke for him and that whole family.
Codie was the perfect match for him. She helped him let lose and just finally be a man. Helping him carry his burden and just being the perfect match. Codie has her own issues but I loved her so hard! She was just laid back, smart and the type of heroine that I lobe from this author.
As the story pregressed o couldn’t put it down. It was one that sucked me in (like all this author’s other books) and kept me reading from the start. It had humor, steam, some suspense on wondering what was going to happen and just the whole LLV feels that you know and love. I can’t wait for the next brothers book! We get a look at who his leading lady will be and I loved her so I can’t wait for next month to get here. 5 stars #2OCCJD

I need a cowboy! I swear, I thought at one point I wanted a cop… but nope, NOW, I have to turn my soldier boy into a cowboy, LOL. Giving us something a bit new, Lani Lynn Vale takes us into the world of rodeos, bulls, stubborn horses, and some sexy cowboys in chaps. We are not new to the Valentines, we love their sister in her book with Nico, Double Tap, This is also a new series that can be read anywhere after reading that one, so no need to be up to date on the new second gens as this takes place timeline wise, after the first SWAT series but seeing as the second gen has the twins before that… I hope I didn’t lose you in that.
Ace is the oldest of the Valentine boys, and after their past coming back wasn’t easy, but they have done it and have been successful in getting the ranch back up and running. The past will always haunt him, but he will not let that stop him. He also will not let Codie deter him from what he wants, and after getting to know her, that’s her. No matter what Codie thinks of herself, Ace knows she is perfect for him, now to just wait her out.
OMG, I needed a fan at one point, my favorite scene, the gym scene with Ace in sweats…. that was just HOT. This was such a good start to the Valentine series, I can’t wait to see where this series goes. I also loved that we got to see the kids and what little devils they are, Georgia and Nico sure have their hands full. I give this very entertaining read 5 stars.

Codie has moved back to Kilgore to help out her grandad on his ranch. She’s not quite sure she’s still needed though, apart from doing odd jobs, so is already contemplating leaving the town that hates her when she meets Ace, the eldest of the Valentine brothers. Living the slightly hermit life himself, having his own drama filled past in Kilgore, Ace isn’t sure he wants the drama that comes with Codie but he can’t help but be drawn to her and luckily the feeling seems to be mutual.
Yes! I have been waiting to read about these Valentine boys since we met them way back in the original S.W.A.T series. Because of this the timeline is slightly out seeing as we’re now into next gen stories with the other series’ , but that doesn’t affect the story here apart from some of the children being teenagers, not the adults we now know them to be. This is more of a slow and sweet story with very little drama and action, but some nice steamy scenes and leaves you feeling the warm and fuzzies at the end. I can’t wait for the other brother’s stories and give Herd That 5 stars.
5 Star Review Herd That (The Valentine Brothers #1) by Lani Lynn Vale
Book one in the latest series from Lani Lyn Vale and she is off to a good start. This series is a bit of a departure from other books by the author in that it is about Cowboys.
I really liked Ace Valentine and the woman who intrigued him, Codie Spears.
Codie has been told one too many times that she isn’t good enough by the people of her home time, that she now believes it to be true.
Ace cannot get her out of his mind, he is convinced she will make a great rancher’s wife and sets out to woo her.
This may be my favourite book from Lani Lynn Vale to date. I fell hard and fast for Ace (just his name made me swoon), he ticked so many boxes that it was hard not too.
I loved how determined and focused he was on everything Codie says; totally swoon worthy. This was a fun and entertaining book that had me invested from the start.
I am looking forward to seeing what she has in store for the Valentine brothers.
Oh my Ace!!! From the moment I met Georgia and heard her family story I wanted her brothers. Lani gave them to us and boy did she give them to us. Ace is absolutely amazing and Codie is the perfect compliment to him. Their chemistry is off the charts and their love is deep.- by Laura
As always LLV pulls through!
I was pretty excited for these cowboys and then when i realized who they was? My excitement couldn’t be contained!
We first hear about these Valentine boys in Nico and Georgia’s story from the KPD SWAT series and even then i was hoping they would get their stories and i didn’t even think to put two and two together!
Ace and Codie are amazing together, the hard to her soft kind of thing. All Lani’s men have that alpha thing going for them which i absolutely love!
Codie i really liked her, she doesn’t have it easy with a lot of things but i loved her anyway.
Ace i loved him too! He was very protective of Codie and the thing i think i love about most of Lani’s characters there always big family people!
Can’t wait for the next one!
Sexy has a sensitive side. Vale puts emotions in touch with a tempting love story that is shadowed by life long insecurities and heartaching bias. Herd That aims straight at the heart and scores a bulls-eye. Ace and Codie are fighting to live their own truth as their worlds are falling apart. The playboy with the soft heart and the wild child with the shattered soul are a wicked combination of naughty, nice and inspiring. For every heartache that brings forth a tear, there is a sense of strength that will make your emotions stand up and cheer.
