The holidays can be murder — and just in time for yuletide 2008 comes this holiday edition of one of Agatha Christie’s most popular and confounding mysteries.
The wealthy Simeon Lee has demanded that all four of his sons — one faithful, one prodigal, one impecunious, one sensitive — and their wives return home for Christmas. But a heartwarming family holiday is not exactly what he has in mind. … in mind. He bedevils each of his sons with barbed insults and finally announces that he is cutting off their allowances and changing his will. So when the old man is found lying in a pool of blood on Christmas Eve, there is no lack of suspects. Did Lee’s taunts push one of the boys to a desperate act? And how did the murderer escape from the locked room? Intrepid Belgian detective Hercule Poirot suspends his own holiday festivities to sift through the motives and evidence surrounding the crime.

You can’t go wrong with Dame Agatha and every December, I break out my tattered copy. Not one of the detective’s famous exploits but a page-turner just the same.
This is among my favourite festive reads and one of Hercule Poirot’s best stories. A locked room mystery, a feuding family, a controlling patriarch, and…Christmas. What more could a mystery lover ask for?
Another grand, Poirot mystery. Ended with a bang and did not guess the killer. Agatha did well hiding the killer and with many twist and turns she gives the man with the mustache the key to solve the mystery. My favorite Poirot tale yet.
Wonderful holiday read
Gotta love a Poirot tale, this one is particularly delightful.
Enjoyed it, many stories.
Typical Christie but I liked it, especially during December.
I love anything Poirot! And everything Agatha Christie.
This was a good read and the audiobook was delightful, as well.
Like all Agatha’s book…great to read
Classic Agatha Christie. Very enjoyable.
The first Agatha Christie book I have read and I absolutely enjoyed it. It won’t be the last.
I can’t imagine how I missed this one over the years, but it’s terrific. Poirot is at his best, offering all kinds of red herrings while he’s on the right trail to solving this case of murder at a family Christmas gathering. Only Hastings is missing; Poirot has to rely on the local Chief Superintendent as his wingman. Great pace and a puzzler of a mystery
Have not finished it yet. So far so good. Has more police than usual. Good plot. Lots of characters.
A good ole whodunit.
Its written by Agatha Christie…what else is needed.
I love everything Agatha Christie ever wrote. She’s the best!
Worth the time.
Another fun read with the twists, turns, plots and on-your-toes mystery expected when reading an Agatha Christie novel.
I love that I can read these out of order (which I am doing ) and I don’t feel lost or out of sorts. Being a mood reader, this is a major plus for me.
I can’t wait to continue my way through the rest of her books.
Totally enjoyed this one! Didn’t figure it out
