The storyline was well written and the characters were so well developed that as I turned each and every page I felt like Riker and Elena jumped from the pages and pulled me right into their story as it effortlessly unfolded!
This is a great story with great characters. I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a great read.

Jason Rutherford ruler lll CEO of sunset security has just found that his money is more important than him now a jerk he meets Elena and her daughter 2 1/2 yrs old legal side and dog sitter but when they need help she breaks his ice. Awesome story

Her Surprise Protector is J.P. Comeau’s first book in The Hamptons Filthy Rich Series. This is a enemies to friends story of sorts. Ms. Comeau is a master at her craft and her character development is some of the best. Her initial descriptions of Riker as the rich, self-entitled a$$ is spot on making the reader wonder if you want to root for him. His first interactions with Elena continue this same idea. Ms. Comeau’s descriptions Elena, a struggling single parent, again are spot on. She makes you want to root for Elena (even more so if you have been there yourself).
The first meeting between Riker and Elena takes place on the beach behind Riker’s Hampton Home. The dog Elena was watching next door had escaped through a hole in the fence and ran up to Riker. Riker over-reacted and blew up at Elena, perpetuating the rich entitles image big time.
The next day, Riker goes to his lawyer to sign some paperwork. He was not happy about having to wait, so when the assistant, Elena, came in with his paperwork, he blew up about having to wait. This was the second day in a row that he blew up at her over something she had no control over. His yelling at her in the office was enough to crack her already fragile shell causing her to cry.
The first chink in RIker’s personality comes when Riker has had time to think about his actions and asked his lawyer (Elena’s boss) about her. He learned she was having a hard time personally and felt bad. He wanted to do something for her to make up for his behavior.
The next afternoon, Riker needing to work off some stress decided to jog the length of the beach from Montauk to his home in the Hamptons. While jogging, he hears a woman scream and yell for help. He runs up the dunes to see if he can help. He scares the attacker away and is shocked to find the woman in need is none other than Elena. He offers her his help and safety, at first she wasn’t sure if she should believe him or not.
The relationship between Riker and Elena develops from there. Their story is very sweet and moves slowly due to the fact that Riker is only in the Hamptons on the weekends. I enjoyed watching the relationship develop given their varied backgrounds. I really liked the fact that he accepted Elena’s daughter from their first meeting and loved her as his own.
It is a sweet, easy read that I highly recommend. I love J.P. Comeau’s writing and look forward to the next book in this series.
I liked the way Riker was sensitive when dealing with his broken heart over his ex fiancée. The fact that he was broadsided by her true gold digger ways in spite of little clues that revealed her selfish nature, showed how he was in love with being in love. He was not looking to replace Hallie when Elena came bursting into his life, but she ended up being the best thing in his life.
Once Riker rescued Elena from her destructive ex, his alpha male protective instincts rushed into first gear.
Not an insta lust/insta love romance, but no less intense with steamy scenes that captured this couple’s chemistry.
A sweet relationship that showed a lot of heart.

Riker and Elena met at odd times in each others lives. Riker was coming to terms with the betrayal of his ex who only wanted him for his money. For Elena it was moving past her ex and getting her life back on track. Twice he was rude and said mean things to her but he was also the one to come to her aide when her ex attacked. Riker knew he was in the wrong when it came to Elena there was something about her that calmed him. Could she be the woman to help him get over the pain of his ex and he the same for her?

Good storyline with single mom, meets arrogant next door neighbor in a bad mood. Great meeting not once but twice Riker shows that he can be full of himself but also realizes his mistakes in taking his mood out on other people. Elena is a kind hard working single mom trying to get her ex husband to stop threatening her, in appears Riker to help save her and finally make a good impression. Nice blending of these characters backgrounds and social status, showing an independent woman and understanding man willing to help by any means possible. Nice ending for this couple.

Good but finally simple.
I loved the beginning with its complex characters, but the rest was more simple and cute. For my taste, there are too many descriptions of actions that situations in which we live the action.
The title is quite clear: while Elina has already been saddened by Riker’s cries or behavior twice, she is saved by him when her ex, her daughter’s father returns and assaults her. Riker is the boss of a security company and is touched by this young woman whom he decides to protect and towards whom he feels attracted.

This is a sweet contemporary romance about Riker, a wealthy billionaire working in Manhattan but living in the Hamptons, and Elena, a single mother working as a paralegal for a law firm in Montauk. There first two meetings were contentious, with a very angry Riker and apologetic Elena. As time passes, their relationship changes. Throw an ex-fiancee and ex-husband into the mix and you have the basis for this story. This is a clean romance with minimal description of bedroom scenes (non-graphic), no swearing, and wonderful characters. An entertaining book. I rate it 4 stars.
Can first impressions be changed? Fun and steamy answer to that question…
This might have been just a sweet romance but then the author added some delicious steam and took this story to another level!
Riker or more accurately, Jason Rutherford Riker, III lives in Manhattan during the week, near his work but the weekends were for The Hamptons. He’s just getting over a breakup with his “gold-digging” ex-fiancée and contemplating throwing the engagement ring in the ocean when he is stopped by a rambunctious dog not on a leash. Due to his anger at his situation, he gives the young woman chasing the dog a tongue lashing, and not the fun kind 😉
Elena lives not far from here in Montauk but is currently dog and house-sitting for Riker’s neighbors. She’s put-out by the “man next door” and his rude attitude. Then through uncanny circumstances they meet again and Riker does it again. But…things change when Riker hears her scream.
I truly enjoyed this book. If you like sweet and sexy stories where first impressions can be way off, get this book. I volunteered to review this book through Booksprout. I give it 4.5 Stars.
Elena and Riker both have been thru it with their exes. Even tho Hallie wasn’t in the picture, her careless treatment of Riker’s feelings left a nasty lingering impression. Cue Elena and the playful puppy when she crashes into his world. Their start was rocky to say the least…his yelling definitely didn’t help…and her ex didn’t understand no means NO!! I really wished Riker hadn’t taken it easy on Oscar the coward…men who bully women deserve everything they get!! She needed a Pooky or Man Man in her corner…lol!! Things worked out for their little family in the end so that’s really all that matters…

At first Riker came across as a jerk when he encountered the red head on the sand and again when they bumped into each other at her office, but over the course of the story its clear to see they were both just dealing with the past to see the future before them. A slow burner for me as a read. but loved his protective nature especially when he took to bree, becoming the father she always needed.
The author has created characters that you can understand and care about. Elena, a single mother being tormented by her ex, meets Riker, CEO of a security company. The connection is there between them and they must decide if this is what they want, or not.

This was a great book that was fun to read. The book was written from a dual POV which was nice as I was able to understand each of their thoughts. The both had bad experiences with ex’s which created some problems. After getting off on the wrong foot with each other, Riker quickly went from jerk to protector. A slow-burn romance that was heartwarming to read. A HEA as Riker and Elena were so perfect for each other.
