This is the 1st book I read by Carol Colyer. I tried to like this story but I’m sorry I stopped reading this story at chapter 4 because it didn’t grab my interest.
Abigail French learns that her childhood friend and the love of her life has been killed in the war. She is in deep mourning that her Mother wants her to snap out of and move on. Her Mother suggests she marries a well to do local man named Aaron but she doesn’t feel right about him. When she learns that her first love, Eddie Porter wasn’t killed in the war but injured she has hope for her future once again. Such a beautiful love story full of twists, turns, and intrigue!
Wow, what a story. If you like excitement, drama, murder, kidnapping, villains, twists and turns in your books then this is one you want to read.I highly recommend it.
Abigail and Eddie have been sweethearts since their teens. They planned to marry and have their own ranch. War breaks out and Eddie has to go to war. He is wounded and spends time in different hospitals. Meanwhile his family is wrongly informed of his death.
Abs as he calls her, is devastated and can not get over her grief. Finally, her family, mostly mother, tells her she need to get on with life and let the rich rancher court her. When she meets Aaron Smallbone she is leery of him. She feels distrust. Her mother keeps pushing her toward him so finally she agrees. Her mother is thrilled and starts all the plans for a wedding. Aaron is giving her money for the festivities.
Eddie is released from the hospital and decides to walk home and save his pay for a ranch. By the time he gets there he finds Abs is engaged to someone else. He is heartbroken but decides he will give her up. When Abs hears he is home she rushes to him and tells him she loves only him.
So many things happen that it is a story you have to read to see how it turns out. You will not be disappointed.
Carol Colyer has managed to put heroes, heroines, villains, romance, danger and strong family ties in this book. The characters are well-developed and the story line keeps you reading. Abigail and Edward take each setback or challenge in stride and just make it work. I love that the ladies just pitch in and do whatever needs doing. I lost sleep reading this book and I do recommend it.
