This book was such a delightful read with the well written storyline and characters that were so well defined that as I turned each and every page I felt like Devlin and Cassandra pulled me right into their journey!
Lady Cassandra has no desire to marry but when Captain Devlin Crawford hears someone maligning her he steps in offers salvation, she cannot say no. So she decides to accept Devlin’s offer, provided he agrees to never being intimate with her. For although Cassandra is drawn to Devlin, she refuses to dishonour the memory of her one true love, Timothy who died on the day of their wedding.

This is the third book in the series about the three Crawford siblings & is another engaging, engrossing read. It was lovely to catch up with Griffin & Caleb & to see how their families have grown, also this book gives us Cassandra’s story, I’ve loved Cass in the earlier books & thrilled that she now has her HEA, she truly deserves it. Devlin has been at sea ever since he left home after arguing with his father, he spends three quarters of a year on a voyage & then has a months furlough before sailing again. He’s always been attracted to Cass & agrees to her terms for their marriage thinking that he’ll seduce her on the long voyage to Australia. Cass comes to the marriage with lots of baggage & even after over a decade since Timothy died she’s still consumed with guilt & not ready to move on. I was engrossed in how their relationship developed & the ups & downs they went through. I loved Penelope who had such a wise head on her young shoulders. I must mention the epilogue which was brilliant & a truly lovely conclusion to the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I love Ms. Barnes’ writing style. It flows well, the characters are engaging, the secondary characters are memorable and the love story is so beautiful. This story has all of that and a slow burn romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The love that Cassandra has for her lost love is not diminished but instead it is brought to the forefront and handled with complete honesty and compassion. Devlin and Cass are perfect for each other. If you like slow burns and light on the sensual side (nothing explicit) then this is a story for you. I will admit I also cried a fair bit while reading this story. And the epilogue is….ahhhh, just so lovely and beautiful.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

Captain Devlin Crawford comes to Lady Cassandra’s rescue by defending her and blurts out she’s going to marry him , only she doesn’t know it yet. He’s already half in love with her. The only thing standing in her way to love him is the torch she carries for the man she’s held in her heart for thirteen years. It’s a shaky beginning. Maybe a voyage for several months can change her mind to love him. Devlin can only hope. There is a secret that may destroy his chance. Emotional and I was definitely rooting for Devlin. Love the epilogue. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Captain Devlin Crawford, was one of three, single, and loving with his nieces and nephews. He had just gotten back from a ten-month voyage at sea. He went to Camberly House where the eldest and a duke resided. He was informed by his mother, that Caleb and Mary were having a ball the following Saturday. He was expected to attend and have one dance. Of course, he could not say no.
Cassandra Moor is the daughter of the Earl of Vernon. She had been in love with Timothy and the day of their wedding he was in an accident and died. She was devastated and later found out she was with child. Her parents tried to get her to marry but she refused and they asked her to leave. She was lucky she had two friends who helped her. They had started an orphanage at Clearview, an estate two days ride from London. There she saw Devlin again. They had been friends throughout most of her life.
I found this story charming and in spots cried. The characters were excellent. They had such hope, caring, and loving. There are a few surprises, also some twists to the tale. It was entertaining and kept your interest. I read straight thru and loved it. It was exciting and thrilling. I most definitely recommend this novel and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
