I love Carly and this book proves why.
She is one strong person who just won’t back down. Denise does an amazing job as always and will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. The twists and turns this book takes will have you staying up because you need to know more. And each and every character has its own special place that just sucks you in
This book was…everything. I loved how much Carly grew into her true self in this book. No longer a pushover, she starts to stand up for herself and she becomes fiercely protective of her new friends. The suspense and mystery were gripping. So many questions and so little answers. Tension builds between her and Wyatt as she questions the basis of their relationship. Hottie Deputy Sheriff Marco Roland shakes things up a little and is quite the charmer. Will he be some competition for Wyatt? Who knows. But I think it will be fun to see that play out. This book flowed smoothly even with all the twists and turns. It’s full of emotion as Carly tries to find her place in her new life while struggling with the decision to stay or move on. I’m so anxious for the next book to see how this whole thing is going to go down.
Carly has come a long way from the reserved, quiet woman we first met in the Rose Gardener series. If you love Rose and Neely Kate, you will love Carly just as much. So quit your hesitating and get this series today!
While Carly is hiding out in Drum and should be keeping a low profile, she just can’t seem to stop from inserting herself into things. She feels to the need to pay if forward and help those in need, which is dangerous to her on many levels as she has secrets of her own to protect. There are so many twists and turns in this story that keep you on your toes, I didn’t know who to trust. I couldn’t put the book down as I had to know what was going to happen. As always, Denise makes you feel like you are part of the story, as if you are a friend and are right there with them.
Carly is forging some strong friendships (ie: making a family of her own choosing); I just hope she isn’t trusting the wrong people with her secret. Will everyone rally around her when the time comes? Or will someone she has put her trust in sell her out in the end? There is so much more to come in the next books and I will be impatiently waiting!!!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
I really enjoyed the beginning of Carly’s adventures in the first book of this series, but I think I love the second installment even more! Denise is a master storyteller who brings these characters to life. In this book, Lula returns (the waitress Carly is filling in for), but then promptly vanishes. Because she is always disappearing, no one seems concerned, except Carly. During her search for Lula, Carly teams up with some new people and begins to see some other people for how they really are.
I really loved the twists and turns in this book, and I did not predict the ending! I also love that we get to know Carly even better. Her character development gives us more insight into who she really is as a person: kind, loving, and thoughtful, but also fiercely independent, tough, and no-nonsense. I have so much respect for her. She’s not afraid to do the right thing, even when it’s the hard thing. But she’s also not one of those characters who just makes a series of bad decisions and then wonders why she’s in the position she’s in. All of Carly’s decisions seem logical to me.
I also appreciate the family that Carly has created for herself in Drum, and I really love watching her relationships grow and deepen with so many people. And while I definitely have a preference for a romantic partner for her, this book is about so much more than who Carly is dating. It’s about creating the family you need and sometimes letting go of the people you don’t. Based on the events of this book, I’m eagerly anticipating the next installment!
I don’t know how Denise does it with all the detailed puzzle pieces to creat such an amazing mystery!
Carly works in Drum, TN at a bar and came on in the agreement of being temporary help until Lula the previous waitress returns. Time goes by and Carly is comfortable with her every day tasks including work then Lula walks in one night and everything becomes complicated and everything is is now in the balance with all the trouble. This all goes on at the same time that her and Wyatt’s relationship is up in the air.
Carly is much stronger than I am, I would have ran away fast but she stays and fights.
So much mystery and twists it kept me at the edge of my seat of what would happen next.
The characters are great, especially Hank with his feisty yet protective attitude.
This was so enjoyable and addictive that I was getting irritated at any interruption I had where I had to put this book down.
If you like a good mystery then this is the book for you. Definite page turner and I am anxious for the next book to come out of Carly’s life.
I was so excited to enter Carly Moore’s world again in book 2! I had missed Drum and the characters that create this small town life. A town filled with secrets and wonderful characters who hold close to the truths and half truths that fill the town. In this book, Carly finds her ability to care for others getting her into trouble, yet again. Lulu is back in town and if you remember from the first book, Carly had a job thanks to Lulu’s disappearance. After one day back on the job, Lulu disappears and Carly’s gut is telling her there is more to this dissapearance. Carly learns more about what makes this small town work and who she can trust. Most importantly, Carly is beginning to believe in herself, in her confidence, strength, and intuition. It was so great to read about all of my “old friends” again and dive into this page turning mystery with Carly Moore.
The second book in an amazing series. If you have not read the first one I highly recommend it. In book 2 the characters have really grown into their own. While also having some characters making a big impact in this 2nd book. Someone has been kidnapped, so Carly jumps into action to help find her. While noone may think shes really missing there is one that believes her and helps her on the search. Causing a lot of trouble in this small town she has grown to love, will she be able to stay after all this? I can’t wait for book 3!!!!!! If you like any of Denise Grover Swank’s series, you will definitely love this one. Give it a try!! You wont be disappointed. It has murder, mystery, romance, bad boys, and all the things we have grown to love with any series she writes.
Carly Moore definitely has more of a backbone in this book. Not only is she becoming more confident in standing up for herself, she’s realized that she’s worth more. The suspense, and twist this book has to offer is definitely worth the read! I didn’t see the end coming! So many twists and turns! I absolutely loved it!!
This is a book for the ages, it is a masterpiece of a story! We watch Carly become this strong, independent, and honestly relatable woman (in a somewhat infuriating and aw inspiring way) She’s the heroine we all hope we’d become in her situation (betrayed by your family, on the run, living in a small town), and watching it unfold is truly amazing.
I love that in the midst of her own personal crisis Carly never loses herself. From seemingly small thoughtful moments like picking up a bath bomb to fighting to find Lula (a stranger to Carly) and solve the mystery surrounding her disappearance, even when most people in town don’t care enough to help. And the mystery itself is full of all kinds of twists and turns and guesses that in no way prepared me for the final chapters. Not to mention the incredible development of characters, new and returning. And there were even a few small nods to Rose thrown in..
So, read this book, FEEL this book, you won’t regret it!
One word…..OMG! This book is a page turner from beginning to end. If you haven’t read the first one, A Cry in the Dark, stop what you’re doing and read it before you read this. I seriously couldn’t put this book down.
Carly takes things into her own hands when the town of Drum won’t take Lula’s disappearance seriously. Then a second woman turns up missing. Will Carly, with the help of her friend Marco, be able to find them both in time? Or have they both disappeared for good? This book will keep you guessing at these answers and questioning everything you know about the characters from the first book.
In my personal opinion, this book was so much better than the 1st one, and I absolutely can’t wait for the next book in the series! This series is a spin off of the Rose Gardner books, but it totally is able to stand on it’s own two feet. If you’re a fan of DGS’s Rose and Neely Kate series you will come across a lot of similarities in this book. Carly is just as much of a bada** as Rose and Neely Kate and I hope to see them all back together again in a future book. If you haven’t given this series a shot yet because you feel like you’d be “betraying” Rose and NK, do yourself a favor and pick this series up. You won’t regret it!
Insanely Amazing! Her Scream in the Silence surpassed the high expectations I had for it. Honestly this series is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. There is the perfect amount of action and adventure and the characters are so well developed. Carly spent her time in the Rose series trying to become her own person, and in the A Cry in the Dark she grew as a person and seemed more confident but in Her Scream in the Silence I feel like she finally became this strong woman who will not take anything from anyone. I know she’s just a character in a book, but she has really inspired me to stand up for myself. I have nothing more I would ask from this book, except for more and more Carly books! If you love the Rose Gardner series you will absolutely obsess over Carly’s series!
Wow…. simply wow! This book is jaw dropping good! This installment is hands down amazing. It is jammed pack with mystery and suspense that will keep you turning pages! Emotions were everywhere in this one! Denise really knows how to take you on an amazing ride! If you haven’t started this series start with A Cry in the Dark you will not be disappointed!
I love how we are seeing Carly grow as a character. In the Rose Investigation series we seen her as a very closed off and slightly timid character and through the first book and this one she has grown a backbone and has came into herself and owning it. She reminds me of a mix between Rose, NK and Magnolia! I was on the fence about Carly in the beginning but boy was I wrong!
She is set on helping those in need even when no one else wants to take it serious, aside from an unexpected friend. Friendships are tested, everything is going wrong but that doesn’t stop Carly. She continues trying to help, consequence be damned. Buckle up cause it’s a ride your not going to want to miss!
Wow, such an amazing book. Her Scream in the Silence is the second book in the Carly Moore series and it did not disappoint.
Carly is really enjoying life in Drum, Tennessee. She has a job at the tavern, friends she can rely on, and a boy friend. Lula, the old waitress at the tavern, comes back into town and Carly is afraid her world is about to be turned upside down.
Carly teams up with her friend Marco, who happens to be a deputy sheriff, to look for Lula when she seems to have gone missing. Carly is the only one who believes there was foul play and Lula maybe in danger. They definitely have their work cut of for them, but they’re determined to solve this mystery before it’s to late.
I can’t wait for June, when the third book in the series will be available. It’s such a great series and I can’t wait for the story to continue.
This is the second installment from the Carly Moore series, WOW has she grown into an independent woman. In this book we see her friendship develop with Marco and friendships tested with her sleuthing skills (some people would call it poking your nose into things). either way she is not happy with the disappearing act of Lula as it just doesn’t seem right!
I love how this book has the main thread of the storyline and lots of little ones interweaving around it, picking up from the last book and setting threads for the next one although not too much that you couldn’t pick this one up as your first read, it just makes you want to go back to the first and start again 🙂 Looking forward to the third book to see what happens in the little town of Drum.
This is the second installment in the Carly
Moore series and Denise Grover Swank knocked it out of the park!!
This book deserves 10 stars!! Seriously!! Do yourself a favor and pick this book up!!
Carly’s character has certainly developed throughout the time that we have known her. I’m loving who she is becoming and finally embracing who she has been hiding all this time. She certainly grew a backbone in this book. (You go girl!!!)
My emotions were all over this book from sad tears, to happy tears for Carly. I have come to love Hank in this book. He’s such a big teddy bear when it comes to Carly. I also enjoyed watching her friendship develop with a certain handsome deputy too. I cannot wait to see what happens next in, “One Foot in the Grave”. If you think this book was explosive wait for the next one. It’s going to be EPIC!!
If you love reading mystery books, and be totally engrossed to each single word in the book, then pick this book up. Trust me, you will avoid everyone in your home till you finish the book and even then. I’m still reeling from everything that happened.
What a page turner! Carly, the main character, is a fierce, strong, amazing women. Her life was great until she found out two of the most important people in her life betrayed her. This betrayal has sent her on a journey, that landed her in the small town of Drum. While trying to fly under the radar, she finds herself in some tough situations. Carly has to determine who she can trust while trying to solve a mystery.
I was constantly trying to guess who was guilty and who was trustworthy. I was trying to solve the mystery right along side Carly. The writing was wonderful, great characters with deep backgrounds and a true mystery that I was unable to guess!
This book was just as amazing as the first in the series, I highly recommend it!
I loved this book. I loved it because the story was interesting, the characters are amazing and Carly is a great MC. I kept trying to slow down and make it last as long as possible, but couldn’t.
This book brings Lula back to Drum and Carly is worried about losing her job. When Lula disappears again, only Carly is willing to look for her and take the disappearance seriously. She enlists the help of Marco, who you may remember saved her life in the last book and has become a good friend. The two work together to investigate Lula’s disappearance while another woman disappears and the Drummond brothers begin to distance themselves from Carly.
The mystery was awesome. I couldn’t figure out who had taken the women or why exactly. The story has some crazy surprises, unlikely allies and interesting town history.
I love Denise’s books and Carly is up there with Rose, Magnolia and Summer. She’s a great heroine and really smart. I see a love triangle definitely building up and am excited to see where it goes. I hope Carly decides to stay in Drum and we get more stories for a long time.
Wow! I just read both Carly Moore novels back to back and I LOVE Carly! Book 2 finds us back in Drum, Tennessee, where Carly is carving out a new life for herself with her newfound friends at the Tavern, and with her boyfriend, Wyatt. But secrets abound in Drum, and when wandering waitress, Lula, hits town again, only to promptly disappear, some of those long-buried secrets start to come to light. Before we know it, Carly is entrenched in another mystery, and every clue brings her closer to personal danger.
With a fast paced plot and well fleshed out characters, Her Scream in the Silence will have you on the edge of your seat. Carly is such a great heroine, you can’t help but root for her. This series is a winner and I can’t wait for more!
This book is absolutely amazing! I loved Carly in A Cry in the Dark but as her character grows and becomes stronger, I love her even more! Carly is finding the place she belongs in Drum and making her own family. When she realizes that things with Lula aren’t what everyone seems to think, she takes things into her own hands with Marco’s help. As the mystery deepens you don’t know who Carly should trust but you are pulling for her to solve it. Not only does Carly solve the mystery surrounding Lula, she learns more about the past of the little town she has found herself in. Can’t wait for more of Carly’s story!
I just finished the book and I feel very torn over it.
First of all, I did enjoy the story very much. It was well written, paced well and it was a page-turner. I slept only three hours last night because I couldn’t stop reading.
I love the new characters, Hank, Max, and Wyatt are awesome!
My problem is Carly. I think she’s a great main character, but I don’t understand her. She is wanting to hide who she is but is doing everything possible to put her nose in everyone’s business and definitely not flying under the radar. She is very judgmental in her ideal of right and wrong, stubborn and has no boundaries.
I just don’t like her in this book.
I understand why she is acting this way, but it just seems so out of character for someone in her situation.
Not sure if it’s because she has gotten so comfortable or if she’s trying to prove something to herself or if this is the real her finally coming out.
Some of her decisions make me want to yell at her.
Though I feel this way, the story was good and I definitely plan on seeing how this will all work out.
Hopefully, in the next book, she gets some common sense and stops putting herself and others into bad situations because she is so stubborn, know it all and nosey.
Despite what I have written here about the main character, I really do recommend this book. It is a great story, just a main character that needs a moment to get herself together.
