This is the second book in this series. In this book we really get to see Carly for who she really is.
Carly is finally settling into her life in Drum, Tennessee. When Lula comes back, Carly fears she will lose her job, but she has taken a liking to Lula, So when Lula disappears again after 1 day back. No one thinks anything of it, that’s just how Lula is. But Carly has a gut feeling that it is something more.
This is an Amazing book, You really should read it to find out what happens in the one light town of Drum, Tennessee.
Carly has been through so much in her life already. When she first ran she was scared, shy and timid, but after ending up in Drum she finally realized she needs to stand up for herself and help others too. Although sometimes that gets her into trouble, after all Drum is a great place to hide because of it’s limited cell service and internet however its host to some crazy criminal activity. I really cannot wait to see what else happens to Carly and if she decides to stay in Drum. I sure hope one day she is able to stand up to her father and ex.
If you loved Denise’s Rose Gardner series, you will love Carly. Full of lies, deceit, and so much more. Great story. Super interesting characters. A really good story. My suspicion about certain characters came to light. But there’s so much more of the story to tell.
Oh man, do I adore Carly. With every scene she’s in, her strength, courage, and intelligence just grows and grows. Her Scream in the Silence is the type of mystery that keeps you guessing all the way. The twists and turns were nearly impossible for me to predict and the cast of characters have so much depth and are so well written. The feelings pulled out of me while reading this story were so varied and intense. It was a wild ride for sure. With no idea who’s good, bad, and misunderstood, I’ll be awaiting the next installment with bated breath. Another fabulous escape from one of my favorite authors.
And Carly is back! I have to say I went blind for this one, I didn’t read the blurb before starting it out. I knew Lula was back from some teasers but I could have never guessed what happened. You CAN’T read this one as a standalone, because we start a few weeks after book 1, Carly is still working for Max, she is still seeing Wyatt (who stole my heart in the first book), but she has some reserves about him, he hasn’t shared anything about himself and Carly is fit to be tied about it. Remember, secrets ARE the currency at Drum and oh boy! They surely come pricy in this one.
Lula is back and Carly is sure to have lost her job, but she only had to share it for one day, as Lula has gone missing and Carly is certain that it wasn’t her choice this time around. She teams up with Marco, Max’s deputy friend who saved her and Wyatt and took a bullet in the line of duty and is on medical leave because of it, to find Lula and they pick up some revelations along the way that certainly are going to stir up things a lot. I loved seeing their friendship grow and their adventure is a must-read.
It was hard for me to write this because I’m seething people, I feel real hatred towards someone. I thought Carly was overreacting but after everything that happens in this book, I’m so ready to see her burn everything to the ground. I’m right along with her, Drum needs a new… perspective. If secrets are the currency I’m sure with her connections she is starting to become very rich.
Carly Moore just can’t leave well enough alone. She just met Lula, the girl she (temporarily) replaced at Max’s Tavern, but she takes a liking to her immediately. When Lula disappears, everyone treats it as Lula being Lula; running off again and shirking responsibility. Carly knows it’s something else. She knows that it’s more than it appears to be yet no one believes her. She decides to take on the mystery herself and damn the consequences. She knows that if two kind-hearted women hadn’t gone out of their way to help her, her life could be very different now.
This book had my emotions all over the place: up, down, sideways, backwards….. It was a definite roller-coaster. I know there were a few times when I yelled out or at the book while I was reading. There were times when I found myself trying to nudge Carly with my mind (as if!) to try to get her to do what I wanted her to do. She’s so danged stubborn that even if I could nudge a fictional character, she wouldn’t do it!
Of course the book leaves us on a cliff hanger because the book would be 700 pages+ if not. Not giving anything away but I really pictured Carly doing a “mic drop” in her head at the end. The next book is going to be so tasty!! Can’t wait to devour it like I did this one.
Her Scream in the Silence is a wonderfully nuanced book that doesn’t fully hit you until you finish the book begin to think about what really happened in this book. This was a book that was a gamechanger for Carly. She grew up fast in this book and is starting to realize that the only person she can rely on is herself.
Carly has found herself in more trouble in Drum Tennessee. This is a town full of secrets and Hank said it best, secrets are their own form of currency and Carly has been a little to free with her secrets, which I believe will come back to haunt her in the end. However, Carly has finally learned that if she is going to get out of the mess in her life, she is the one who will have to do it.
Through the events of this book, Carly has finally found an inner strength she never knew she had. She is finally learning to trust herself and to take control of her life for the first time. It was nice to see her standing up for herself and living life on her own terms. She is going to have her hands full navigating her new reality and it should be interesting to see how this all plays over the next few books. The people in her life have lived a life on the edge and many of them have done what they needed to survive in a town full of betrayal. These individuals have learned to be guarded and closed off in order to protect themselves and I have a feeling that some may not hesitate to throw Carly under the bus in order to protect what little they have in their own lives.
Her Scream in the Silence a great follow up book that lays the groundwork for what should be an exciting and thrilling serious and It will be interesting to see who are the last ones standing with Carly

SUCH AN AWESOME BOOK!!!! Definitely a must read, but best reading A cry in the dark first!! Absolutely love this series and Carly. She has grown so much over a short period of time and I love her more and more. She has such a big heart, would do anything for anybody who is struggling whilst she still deals with her own issues and past. Luna returns and Carly instantly feels a need to protect and care for her. Carly has made a best friend in Marco from their recent history together (we’re first book) this is just such a great read. When you get to the ending be warned you want more, left on such a cliff hanger. I want and need the 3rd book. Great job Denise amazing yet again.
This is the second book in the Carly Moore series and you need to have read the first one before you start this one. Her Scream in the Silence takes place three weeks after the events of A Cry in the Dark.
Plot wise, it well developed with twists that are not obvious. I was engaged from the beginning to end. Actually, I was very angry when I first finished this book! To the point I almost felt like I needed a support group for my anger….Hello, my name is Jamie and I’m ANGRY at Max, Wyatt & Lulu. The actions of these three caused preventable consequences and heartache. I suppose that is a sign of a well written book when the author can provoke such feelings toward fictional characters.
Character wise, there is less of Wyatt in this book and I really missed him. We do get to know Marco and I think he will be a good friend and ally for Carly in the future. Hank steps up and really becomes the family Carly needs and has been lacking. His fierce protectiveness and blind loyalty melted my heart. Bingham even showed an enduring side I hope we see more of in the future.
I look forward to more from this sleepy little TN town, that’s not so sleepy after all.
Welcome back to Drum where life is returning to normal after all the drama and murder. But wait…where is the fun in that?
Poor Carly doesn’t stand a chance at a simple life hiding in the small town in the middle of no where. Trust issues with her boyfriend, work problems, and a missing person stir up her life again. And this girl kicks back when it all comes at her.
I am so proud of how strong she is in this book and keeps going even when things are knocking her down. I love how much this story reminds me of Rose’s books with awesome characters I want to keep reading about.
Going back to the tiny town of Drum is like a little slice of heaven. Just when Carly is getting settled in to a good routine, the past has a way of showing back up disrupting her life. One thing after another and then a twist of an ending. Something that I didnt see coming, but have come to expect from the author. This second book is better than the first! I can’t wait to see wait happens next!!
4.5 Stars!
This is the second installment in Carly’s series and it did not disappoint! She grew such a backbone in this novel and I loved that she was willing to stand up for herself. She’s come into her own so well since meeting Rose and NK. I also loved Marco in this book and love how closely him and Carly work together on Lula’s disappearance. I continued to enjoy getting to know all the people of Drum and meeting new folks along the way. There’s lots of twists throughout this novel that threw me for a loop and had me experiencing all different emotions. You just never know who Carly should trust. This series definitely parallels Rose Gardner’s series in a lot of ways, so give it a shot if you like Rose!
Her Scream in the Silence is book two in the Carly Moore series by Denise Grover Swank. This book starts up about a month I believe, after the first book ended. And once again, Carly finds herself right in the middle of all kinds of trouble.
Carly Moore is on the run. It’s how she ended up in Drum, Tennessee. Her car quit on her and she was stranded. Drum has no cell reception, no internet and proves to be the perfect hiding place. Hiding in plain sight. She likes her job at Max’s Tavern and the people that work there, Max, Ruth and Tiny, have become her family of sorts. She’s been seeing Wyatt Drummond for about a month now but things aren’t going well. She cares for him but Wyatt has some pretty serious communication issues. Secrets he refuses to share!
Carly had been getting all the hours at work she could handle since Lula had run off, which was why she was originally hired. But unexpectedly, Lula comes back. Max, their boss, can’t bear to let Carly go so they agree to share the hours. Carly feels a sudden protectiveness towards Lula which was short lived because after only one day back, she disappears again. Only this time, Carly suspects she didn’t leave of her own free will and is determined to save Lula only no one seems to want to help her, except the Deputy Sheriff, Marco Roland, who is still recovering from his gun shot wound he received saving Carly in the first book.
Carly is growing to love living in Drum and truly cares for the residents there. But she’s supposed to be hiding, not putting herself right in the middle of yet another huge pile of trouble. She only wants to find Lula and also, Lula’s best friend, Greta, who is also missing. The list of suspects grows by the minute as Carly and Marco search for answers.
This book, as was the first one, is non stop from the beginning to the end. I couldn’t put it down. Carly is a lioness when it comes to protecting people. She’s barely known Lula for a full day but can’t help but to want to help her. Once again she is putting her life on the line trying to do what’s right. I enjoyed watching the relationship between she and Marco strengthen. I think they are just what each other needs. I have to admit that both Max and Wyatt are on my bad list right now. The decisions they are making and the impacts it has on Carly are unforgivable.
The next book in this series, book three, it titled One Foot in the Grave. I can’t wait to see what Denise has in store for our Carly.
Awesome series and I can’t wait for the next book!!
Loved this book, I love the characters. It’s a page Turner you don’t want to put down
I just LOVE Carly, she has spunk, she doesn’t back down, she sticks to her guns and tries to always do the right thing…. What could go wrong in the small town of DRUM???
Actually lots can go wrong….
Lula comes home, and goes missing just as quick….. But Carly is on the case with Wyatt, Ruth, Max, and Marcus to help her find Lula…. and all the secrets behind Lula’s disappearance….
The secrets and revelations that come out in this book have my head spinning… I can’t wait to see how it all turns out….
Bring on Book 3!
Sweeeet Caroline, I absolutely loved when Carly was first introduced to all of us Rose Gardner fans! Such a sweet, kind, compassionate young lady. With a secret. Now we know her secret, and why she’s in the run. In the first Carly Moore book she’s on the run and we get a glimpse of her growing and changing from Caroline to Carly. Now in the second book, Sweet Caroline is gone, Carly Moore is in the house!!! I love how much she’s grown, learned to trust, adores cantankerous old Hank, and how hard she tries to be a good friend. Carly is spunky, loyal, and not going to be meek little Caroline ever again!
I loved the book Her Scream in the silence. This is the 2nd book in the Carly Moore. Carly is a woman that wants someone to give as much to her as she is willing to give them. While trying to keep her own secrets while she is trying to find 2 women that disappeared. This is a page turner your don’t want to miss. Grab it & give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
I was very eager to read this second book in the Carly Moore series. We first met her in Rose Gardner’s world but Carly has step away from there and is now living in hiding from her father in Drum TN. Each book has a mystery solved within it but there is also a bigger picture puzzle that we get more information from each edition.
In the first book, Carly starts working at a bar / restaurant filling in for the ever elusive Lula, but now she’s back and things are not quite what they should be. Carly and her new bestie Marco are teaming up this time to help find the missing women.
Everyone is back in this novel with a few other smaller characters and I’m loving them all. I had been saving this book to read while on holidays and I was hoping to read it leisurely but of course I got so hooked up with it all, I stayed up to the wee hours of the morning to finish it. I needed to know all the bits and pieces and what was going to happen next. Carly is my new favourite sleuth and I’m hoping she sticks around for a long time to come yet. She may need to run from Drum as things are heating up for her there but maybe a certain mechanic will be more open and she will have an extra reason to stay.
I feel fans of DGS are sure to love Carly as much as I do and any mystery reader will adore her too. Great series.
