She’s a princess, and his patient. He’s supposed to heal her, not fall for her. Crossing the line could cost him everything, but sometimes love is worth the risk. GiselleForced to escape a neighboring country under attack, my father and I sought safety on a military ship bound for home. But in the process, I sprained my ankle. The next thing I knew I was being examined by the ship’s doctor.Dr. Leo … ankle.
The next thing I knew I was being examined by the ship’s doctor.
Dr. Leo Lewis is the hottest man I’ve ever met, and his bedside manner could scorch the pages of my diary.
I know there will be trouble if we’re caught, but I simply can’t resist those sexy broad shoulders or the eight pack, not to mention his brain.
What can I say? Intelligence turns me on.
But if my father’s men catch us, they will do everything they can to keep us apart.
If only they could understand—Leo’s love is the medicine I desperately need.
Leo
The princess is my patient.
Off limits on both counts.
But the heat between us is palpable, and it’s impossible not to get lost in those sparking amber eyes of hers.
One taste of her luscious charms, and I’m done. My heart belongs to her.
Too bad a relationship with the king’s daughter is not a possibility.
I will have to forget about her, unless I can find a way to make myself indispensable to the crown.

Giselle is second in line to the throne after her father. There is a coup at the palace and Giselle, her mother and father escape to a ship. As Giselle gets on the ship she takes a fall. A stunningly handsome man asks if he could help her. Turns out this is Leo, the ship’s doctor. They carry on a secret love affair but get discovered. Instant attraction. An injury. Hiding. Danger. What a fabulous story and I loved it.
Her Royal Physician
The Royal Romances, Book 4
By: Mckenna James
Narrated by: Addison Barnes
The heart wants what the heart wants. When Giselle and Leo meet, they know they are only in for the short haul. Leo is a military doctor and Giselle a princess, soon to become Queen. But they didn’t realize the depth of their feelings. A year after their short encounters, they have the chance to solidify their love. But will it be allowed? Leo is not royal blood! Will love prevail? This is a fun listen, with wonderful characters. Giselle is spunky, lovable and smart. Her loyalty to the throne is commendable, but I love that she thinks for herself and isn’t afraid to speak up. Leo is the perfect man, if there is one. He’s got the conscience that will always do what he can to help, and his love of Giselle is uncompromising. It’s a beautiful story with some humor, some steam and lovable characters.
Addison Barnes adds to the story with her variety of voices and ability to let us in on the feelings of the characters. She uses her voices and inflections to give us the frustration, loneliness and love. I enjoyed her performance.

James has written a fairytale full of realism: troubles and terrors of war, the real challenges of royalty and ruling, the chemistry and tears leading to true love, and great descriptions of affairs of state such as the wedding of royals and the crowning of a new Queen! Yet the characters King Maximillian, Princess Giselle, her lover Leo, doctor and navy officer, even the secretary to the king, Nathaniel, are all fully drawn and so real. This was an enjoyable read; I especially liked the epilogues. I volunteered this review from an ARC.
** spoiler alert ** Leo has always made it his mission to help others. Giselle was always taught to be the perfect royal. The heart wants what it wants. Will they find a way to make it work? Will they be able to handle everything in their way?
I loved how both of these characters were determined to try. I loved how Giselle was determined to stand up for herself and what she felt was right. I loved how Leo put himself out there and was determined to do what he could to keep the love of his life. Good read!
McKenna James makes it easy to love her stories. Her Royal Physician dares to be addictive. Against the backdrop of fantasy romance, Leo and Giselle find a way to be different. James keeps things simple with a hint of complication, wrapped with an abundance of heart. With stories familiar enough to grab the attention and unique enough to leave hearts wanting more, it’s no wonder James continues to be a one click for me.
I’m a sucker for a royal hot romance and this delivered! Giselle is the only daughter of the King and next in line for the throne. While on a diplomatic visit she and her father are forced to flee and take a war ship back home. While getting on board she hurts herself and the handsome office Dr Leo is there to take care of her. The spark is there, but she is a royal and his is just an officer. They manage to sneak a few rendezvous, but when they are found out she is forbidden to see him. A year goes by and he ends up at the castle for an award and the spark is still there. I love their story, the drama and passion…so good!
King Maximillian of Idolia and his daughter, Princess Giselle, are in Weles, celebrating the newly brokered peace between the Pramorian Empire and the Kingdom of Weles, but it doesn’t last. The Empire attacks Weles, stranding the King and Princess without a way home other than on the battleship The Obsidian Vow. As they are sailing back to Idolia, Giselle stumbles, sprains her ankle and the ship’s doctor tends to her immediately. Lieutenant Leonard Pratchett, of the Idolian Royal Navy Guard, is the ship’s doctor and he can’t help but admire the Princess. As he stands before her to check her ankle carefully, he notices that Giselle is admiring him, as well. What starts with something electric that passes between them, becomes a desire to be in each other’s arms as much and as long as possible. They literally sneak around the ship finding any private place they can to be together. But, they’re not careful enough, are caught and the King is mightily displeased! He reminds his daughter that she is a Royal and she must marry someone of noble birth. So, what, this can only be a fling? She and Leo are forced to part with no real hopes of seeing each other again. Things don’t always go the way you expect them to and a year later, Leo is at the palace, receiving the Medal of Honor for bravery during a time of war. Giselle knows he’s the only one for her and fights against the Royal Matchmaker and her father’s attempts to force her into an arranged marriage. The heart wants what it wants and Giselle won’t accept anything less. The way around the Royal decree of marrying only another royal is in her hands if she can only think of a way to do it. Help comes from the least-expected place! This is a truly sweet story with characters who tunnel into your heart. The ending is perfection and the epilogues give us far more than an insight far into the future. They give us generations of love, life and hope!
Ms. McKenna James, I would like to say thank you for your amazing release. Her Royal Physician is a wonderful book with a compelling storyline. The insightful character creations must of taken a lot of work, please know that it is definitely appreciated. In what little girls mind, do they not think about their wedding? When you envision your happily ever after, aren’t you standing beside that one person you can trust, love and wholeheartedly count on? That is exactly what Ms. James has gifted us with.
In today’s day, when you are consumed with current events, chores, work, family, etc., you pick a book to just lose yourself in. That is to a T what I found myself doing as I followed along on Giselle and Leo’s journey. I don’t spend much time thinking about what life must be like for famous people, however, I think you’ve actually portrayed it quite well. Her Royal Physician is a must read for sure.
Why not spend some time for yourself as you follow this Princess as she discovers exactly who & what her heart wants, and just how to get it.
I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader’s copy of Her Royal Physician in exchange for my honest and voluntarily given opinion. I truthfully loved every word of this release.
I can’t wait to see what she creates next.
ONE WILD ROLLERCOASTER RIDE!!!
Hit and miss! McKenna hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. You can not help but fall in love. All the shenanigans, close calls, snags, mishaps and mayhem takes you on one incredible adventure with this enthralling storyline and gripping plot. This bad boy showcases 100% on point realism, kicking up a churning vortex chocked-full of vexing circumstances and a slew of surprising events that keep you flipping page after page. The characters chemistry sizzles from the pages and suck you in so deeply until you feel the heat and electricity thrumming through your veins. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and traits that rock this baby to its core. The scenes are described so colorfully you have no trouble interpreting each scenario as they play off one another fluidly. Remarkable job McKenna, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
The storyline was well written and the characters were so nicely created that I felt like I was sitting on the sidelines as the story developed between Giselle and Leo!
