Another amazing story in the series
This is another amazing story in the series, that has you gripped right to the end. The plot is full of emotion, intrigue and surprises. The characters are portrayed with a strength that is quite envious. This is a great book for anybody who loves hot steamy historical romances that have plenty of twists and turns.
Daisy Vanreid is an American heiress her abusive father sends to England to marry the aging Lord Breckly. Desperate to avoid that fate, Daisy earns a reputation as a flirt, hoping to be caught in an embrace forcing a marriage to any one else. Sebastian, Duke of Trent, has been an elite spy for his adult life. Information has made him trail Daisy for her father is involved in a free Ireland movement with bombings over cities in England. But he needs proof to stop the wealthy man. His mission now is to marry her to keep her close and discover more evidence against her father – and to see if she is guilty as the reports indicate. Sebastian succeeds in compromising Daisy – although she thinks it was her doing. But in spite of all the reasons not to trust her, he is drawn to Daisy’s innocence, courage and strength. When disaster strikes, he is torn between his sworn duty to country and his undeniable love for his wife – whom he has deceived with lies from the start. Can Sebastian protect both country and his love – a love he desires above all else, making him feel whole for the first time. When he leaves Daisy after 2 weeks of marriage to flush out the anarchists with no explanation, can she trust him and forgive him to start a new life with freedom from fear and abuse? Wonderful romance and undercover adventure – a heart touching tale of wounds made whole with love!!!
Another fantastic read by Ms. Scott. I am slowly making my way through her books and have loved every one of them. This story has a little more intrigue in it which I like a lot. I was not sure if Sebastian could pull of his scheme and if they could end with a happy ever after. But who I am kidding, of course it does, it is a romance. Both Daisy (yeah, she was done with Sebastian’s BS) and Sebastian are great characters and add in intrigue and a great love story and you have a nice read.
American heiress Daisy Vanreid is desperate to avoid her abusive father marrying her to the equally abusive aging aristocrat, Lord Breckly. She’ll do anything, even entrap the notorious Duke of Trent into marriage, to escape her fate. An elite spy, Sebastian, the Duke of Trent, is on a mission to unravel Fenian bomb plots in England’s cities. Forced to wed Daisy as part of his cover, he has no intention of falling in love with a woman suspected of treason.
I really enjoyed the book Daisy & Sebastian both have their reasons for marrying but neither can deny their attraction to each other. The story flowed well, on the whole the pace was good but it did slow at about a third of the way through but then picked up gain & I was totally engrossed & ended up reading well into the night.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
What happens when American heiress Daisy Vanreid is determined to get away from her father and not marry who he picks out for her? Sebastian, the Duke of Trent, an elite spy for the crown happens! What Daisy does not know is that he had her in his sights to find out what her father was involved in with a group called the Fenians, who are plotting setting off bombs in England’s cities. Forced to wed Daisy as part of his cover, he has no intention of making it a real marriage or falling for her. But the best laid plans and all that does not work out and there is an explosive chemistry between the two. Of course Daisy does not know Sebastian is a spy or what his mission has to do with her. This story grabbed me from the first and was an adventure until the very end. Each not really trusting the other and how it all plays out was fantastic! Part of a series this book can be read as a standalone. But I intend to go back and read the first two books because this one was so fantastic!! This is the first book I have read by this author but it will not be the last. A steamy romantic read with suspense and a lot of emotions!
