When Lainey Nickels hires a shifter mercenary to take on the job of rescuing her abducted brother Shane, she has no idea what she will encounter. It definitely isn’t the enigmatic Gideon Hunt. He certainly looks like he could take on a jungle full of kidnappers singlehandedly. But Shane is her brother; her responsibility. Lainey isn’t going to leave his fate in just anyone’s hands. And she … brought her passport to prove it.
Gideon Hunt would rather work alone and he makes damn sure to remind Lainey of this fact every chance he gets. But his predatory stares and gruff demands don’t scare off Lainey. She’s annoyingly independent, but her bravery draws him in. She accepts the man behind the brusque exterior and knows exactly who and what he is. To Lainey, he is one of the good guys. But Gideon knows better.
Stress and a need for comfort bring the two together in an explosion of passion, reawakening desires both had long forgotten. Neither expected their hearts to get involved.

I love this authors books but this is just a very quick read with an easy plot.
I enjoyed this quick fun read despite my dislike of the plotline.
This story had one of my pet peeves which is the heroine tagging along when she is not equipped for what is happening.
Lainey was brave wanting to get her brother back safe, this was admirable and I know it is what the story is about but I hate when someone hires a specialist to do a specific job, then says they have to go along as well even though they are totally out of their depth.
Gideon is a mercenary for hire but we really never get to know him. Just a little bit about his past. I would have liked some of Gideon’s point of view or what his Puma was thinking.
This is my honest review of this book.
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
I really like Lainey, she stood up to both Gideon and Scott. She’s strong, yet still a bit vulnerable which makes her a Gr8 woman. Now Gideon is one hot & sexy panther shifter. He’s got baggage, but he’s protective & strong. He’s hired for the job of getting Lainey’s brother back after being kidnapped in Guatemala. I really enjoyed this story & I recommend it. 5 Thumbs up.
This is a quick read with constant interaction between characters. There’s just enough back story to give you the basics of each character and if the writer had wanted this could have been a larger novelette, easily. Overall, it fits in nicely with the rest of the series.
This book is a fast paced, (slightly) slow burn romance about a woman, Lainey, in search of her brother, Shane, who has gone missing. She asks a friend to help her which is how she meets the stern, get-right-down-to-business, and hunky Gideon Hunt. This story is as much of an action one as it is a love story which makes for a fun and entertaining read. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Great book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A really good shifter romance.
Lainey needs to find someone who can save her brother, Shane. The only person she can think of calling is her ex, Scott, and it was, for once, the right call. He calls in a favor from his friend, Gideon. Gideon is the guy to call for situations like this because he’s good at what he does… with a little help from his inner panther. This story is well written and has lots of intrigue and passion.
This is a great read full of adventure and romance. The characters are strong and the storyline well-written and descriptive. You can feel the sexual tension flowing through the pages and the action and suspense are nicely balanced throughout the story. The hero and heroine both have strong, independent personalities and do not back down but with the situation they are placed in, it works out well. Even though the hero is a brooding, loner mercenary he still has empathy and consideration for the heroine; though you can see he clearly does not want to. He constantly tries to get her out of his way until he finally comes to the inevitable conclusion that she is staying put and helping whether he likes it or not.
Lainey receives a disturbing call from her brother and after confirming his over-due absence with his editor she goes into full panic mode. Though the paper is sympathetic to the situation they can offer no assistance. Not knowing what else to do, she turns to someone she thought she would never speak to again, her ex who is a detective and wolf-shifter. He immediately offers his assistance, willing to contact a friend that specializes in these types of situations and she is extremely thankful. He makes it clear that he still has an interest in her, but his overbearing, controlling ways come back into play during their conversation and she shuts him down fast; not wanting to go down that road again. All she wants is help to rescue her brother from the jungles of Central America before it is too late. She has worked hard to become who she is and stand on her own. Though only one year older, she feels responsible for her brother and she will do whatever she has to secure his safe return; even if it means inviting herself along on the rescue. She did come prepared after all; she has her bag, some cash and her passport so she is ready to go.
Gideon is a tough, well-seasoned mercenary who takes no prisoners. He is a loner, by choice, and likes it that way. When he signs on for a job he wants nothing in his path to slow him down or take his concentration away from his assignment. And he definitely does not want a helpless woman thrown in the mix he has to babysit and who could possibly get them all killed. However, regardless of his harsh words or intense, dark stares she refuses to back down. He admires her independence and bravery but his hardened heart and low opinion of himself is confusion and off-putting. Through their harrowing trek through the jungle she holds her own and helps him to see there is more to him than he believes.
Thrown together by circumstance and desire can Lainey convince Gideon to give them a chance? Can she help him to see himself the way she does?
Lainey has hired Gideon, a shifter mercenary, to go in and rescue her brother Shane from a kidnapping/hostage situation – and being the protective, big sister that she is Lainey insists on going along on this rescue even though she is not equipped in any fashion to be of help. More like a hindrance. Their attraction bubbles beneath the surface of the job they’ve got to do, but eventually surfaces to hit them emotionally hard. Gideon has a troubled past and he’s not looking for, or believing in commitment. Lainey believes she can change his mind, eventually
