Lord Patrick Delaney promised to deliver an important message to his best friend’s sister, but promises are hard to keep when one becomes a ghost. After Patrick is attacked in the forest and tossed into a river, he is surprised to wake at the country estate where the lovely Miss Laura Chetwey is mourning the loss of her brother. Even more surprising, she seems to be the only person who can see or … or hear him, which should make his mission easy to complete… if only he could remember the message he is supposed to deliver.
Laura’s brother has been missing for four months and she has come to believe he perished at sea. Taking refuge at her uncle’s estate, she tries to escape her grief by immersing herself in the imaginary world of fiction by penning a horrid novel. But the line between reality and make-believe becomes hard to distinguish when a handsome ghost arrives at Torrington Abbey to protect her and steals her heart in the process.
Trapped between the span of life and death, Patrick fears he will vanish forever once he remembers the news of Laura’s brother. Will they ever have a chance to be together, or is the opportunity for love lost to them forever?

The plot was scary and horrific and I crossed my fingers, hoping a happy ending was even possible. The characters were enticing and made me read chapter by chapter. Well done!
I was caught the moment I read the synopsis of this novel by Jane Charles. The idea for this plot was so original I had to read this book! And I am so glad I did!
Her Muse, Lord Patrick, is a delightful historical tale with just a touch of paranormal, combining two of my favorite genres in one! The romance is sweet and just a bit of sexy, adding a bit of spice to the story without overwhelming the plot.
Jane Charles does a wonderful job of creating a post Napolian War English setting with a gothic feel to it. She adds to that a group of ruffians who are not adverse to killing and kidnapping to get what they want. The twist that makes this so unique is our heroine meets and falls in love with a ghost! The burning question that adds to the suspense is whether or not our hero, Lord Patrick, is really dead.
I could not put this book down. I had to see how Ms. Charles resolved this conflict. She did a masterful job of keeping me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. There is a happily ever after, which I demand from all my favorite romance authors. And no cliffhangers which is wonderful as I will read more in this series but still have so many books left on my TBR shelf.
A very enjoyable interlude. The type of book that makes you want to curl up on your couch, with your blanket and a cup of tea in front of your fireplace, while the world outside just fades away for a little while. Exactly what I want when I pick up a new book!
A regency romance like no other, involving spirits, danger, and romance. Throughout this book I was interested to see how the hero’s ghost would become flesh and bone. It’s an interesting premise, and certainly original.
The premise of this book was quite unusual and entertaining!
So different than other books of this type. Very refreshing and a fun read! Unpredictable all the way to the end.
couldnt finish…….silly
Surprised how much I enjoyed this book. Characters were interesting.
A ghost comes to haunt, but is he a ghost. I loved this book.
I was disappointed at first but then I read on and I found the book turning into an enjoyable read!!
I was pleasantly entertained by this cute romance story. Very enjoyable reading.
Very refreshing story! Very haunting but not in the scary way. Captivating story line of a love that can never be. When you are done you want to read it again and again. I wish it was a little longer and gave a little more history of the original earl. I’ve already have the sequel. True love can defy impossible odds
Nice story but too unrealistic for some
Totally different idea from what I’ve read before
Really enjoyed this! Look forward to another book from this author.
I really loved this book. Loved the characters and story line. will look for more from this author.
A good story for an evening in.
Very enjoyable, have read three more of this author’s books now since purchasing this one
Come to momma lord Patrick. I would keep our life together interesting. Okay but not great
I love paranormal historicals and this one was the perfect balance! Laura found love with an impossible situation while believing her brother dead, without proof. Patrick is attacked and left for dead while on the way to deliver a message to Blake’s sister. When the 2 meet, sparks fly, even with Patrick being a “ghost”! The scenes between Laura and Patrick while he’s not solid were on the steamy side and wonderful! The ending was the perfect wrap up!

My review:
Do they have a future together when one is a living breathing being and the other an intangible version of his corporeal self.
This is my first read by Mrs Jane Charles and not my last.
I loved her writing style, it flows effortlessly and smoothly. Her characters are nice and caring persons but not perfect.
At first when I began reading this book, the book Si C’était Vrai by Marc Levy popped in my head, its movie adaptation was Just Like Heaven. Outside the subject, there is nothing else in common but as I loved it, i was sure to enjoy this one, and I was right.
It was a very entertaining read, at first it took time to set the storyline, introducing each one of the heroes in their environment, then from their first encounter, when Patrick influences Laura’s writing, it was enjoyable to see how they interact together and the awkward situations when they are other people with them.
The more time they spend together, the more they come to realize they have found their fated mate.
Without a sex scene, the author conveyed how slowly but surely they fall for the other. How a feather touch or a gasp of air can be charged with sensuality.
Then as the story moved faster, linking the background plot to the main heroes story. They must face the issue that threaten their own chance of a future together.
4.5 stars for this short but delightful read
I was granted a free copy of this book, but here is my true and unbiased opinion.
