Detective Josie Quinn is investigating when young boys find human bones. These bones are found in the woods behind a trailer park that Josie once lived with her mother when she was a child.
Imagine her surprise when the bones are confirmed belong to a young woman who was murdered 30 years ago … Belinda Rose… who happens to be Josie’s mother.
So if this is the real Belinda Rose .. who is the woman who raised Josie?
Just as Josie gets closer to uncovering a secret that will shatter her world forever, another body is uncovered. It’s suddenly clear that someone very close to Josie will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried forever.
This was an excellent addition to this series. Josie has had her share of problems over the years, but this book takes the reader back to when Josie was the child of an alcoholic, drug-riddled toxic mother.
Her problem with a stalker evolves. Someone is posting her name and phone number on craigslist .. asking for those who would like a good time to call her. One man has accosted her in front of a grocery store. Her car has been vandalized … her house broken into. There are no clues … but who would want these things done to her?
Riding a roller coaster is tamer than the action of this book. A real page turner, the twists and turns pop up when you least expect them. The chapters are divided … the current life of Josie and then those from when she was a child. You cry for the child and wonder how she survived relatively normal.
Although third of a series, this one reads easily as a stand alone. As always, I highly recommend starting at the beginning of this terrific series. Josie is a fascinating character.
Many thanks to the author / Netgalley / Bookouture for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Hard to believe
This boo kept me guessing up to the end. It is a very good stoy
A few loose ends but overall very good.
How could our system to protect the young be so flawed? But I hear constantly that it is and that children in foster care or in abusive homes are often at risk.
I’ve enjoyed the whole series.
Just loved this book and only wish it would have gone one more chapter so I could have celebrated the emotional reunion.
New to the series, I was apprehensive about not getting well enough acquainted with the characters, especially picking up with the third book. However, Lisa Regan has done an excellent job at filling in backstory and developing story lines in a way that left me feeling as as though I already knew the characters.
When the skeletal remains of a woman are found in the woods near the trailer park that Police Chief, Josie Quinn, grew up in, she is quickly thrown back in time, forced to reflect on a tumultuous part of her life. As Josie and her team try to uncover the truth about a murder that happened over thirty years ago, Josie navigates the vulnerabilities of her past and tries to overcome the anxiety she has about sharing her story of abuse with those closest to her. Josie tries to remove herself from the investigation as the identity of the victim and the prime suspect become a conflict of interest for her but someone keeps messing with her and drawing her back in. What started out as teenage pranks have become much more serious threats and with the investigation almost over, Josie discovers that the life she had with her mother in the trailer park, was not at all what it seemed.
I would definitely recommend this book. Either as a stand alone or in conjunction with the other 2 of the series. Regan has such a unique writing style with her tight knit plot and story twists. It’s hard to step away from the book. Easily 5 stars!
This book is number 3 but I read it first and then hunted more by this author. I could not put it down and highly recommend this book if you like mysteries. No way I guessed the ending.
Kept me reading. Surprises throughout.
Her Mother’s Grave, wow, I’m still somewhat wordless more than two months after reading this book. Lisa’s books always leave me in a constant state of ‘but, but, but’ which in suspense is a GREAT compliment. Her Mother’s Grave was no different. I wanted more, so much more when I turned the last page. I know in my head there will be more coming, but having to wait for it is torture! Lisa’s books are ridiculously hard to review because her plot lines are intricate, her characters so perfectly flawed, and each point in every book is somehow tied to the next book therefor making spoilers nearly a sure thing.
I will say this, read this series. Seriously, just start reading the series and when you get to Her Mother’s Grave, you won’t put it down until you’re finished. Be prepared, you’ll be one handing it in the kitchen while cooking, so think ahead.
Her Mother’s Grave reminded me a lot of Mary Higgins Clark’s Two Little Girls in Blue, but all of Lisa’s books are written as a suspenseful thrill ride that twists your mind around until you aren’t sure if you’re coming or going and the only way to know is to get to that last page.
I would like to see more romance develop between Josie and Noah. I honestly think that this is moving too slow and it does tend to drag you out of the story when the characters are trying too hard to avoid their reaction to each other. Suspense like Lisa’s should never be about the romance, but Josie isn’t a robot without real human emotions and needs. Now, knowing Lisa there is much more to come in the coming books in this series, but I’m just sayin… throw Noah a bone here, people!
Kudos on another amazing book written in a way that every reader will wish they had more time to read, will have an unhealthy disregard for bedtime, and not stop thinking about even after the last page is turned.
Loved it. Have enjoyed all of the books in this series.
Absolutely loved all three of Detective Josie Quinn books! The characters are well defined, entertaining and keeps up the interest until the very end. Looking forward to more cases for Josie.
What a powerhouse of revelations about Josie’s past. It all starts with a body of a teenager who has been dead 30 years is discovered and the shocking revelation that her name was Belinda Rose the same name Josie’s abusive mother went by.
The investigation into Belinda Rose’s life uncovers so much but nothing more shocking than the eventual connection to Josie. Up until this point Josie has had a for shit life. Physically and mentally abused as a child, her husband turned out to be a dirty cop and is now dead, her fiance also didn’t turn out to be the man she thought he was. Now, as crappy as her childhood was, she is finding out it was far worse than she could ever have imagined.
What a crazy ride this book was. The toggling between Josie’s past and the present of investigating Belinda Rose’s life was captivating. You knew at the end of the journey it was going to be bad but the author still managed some good shockers in there.
Hopefully now Josie can put all of her past behind her. I cant wait to see where the author takes this series next.
