He just wanted a place to rest and recuperate. She only needed a repairman to help fix up her beach house. For marine sergeant, Tyler Banner, nothing could be further from the memories of his time in Iraq than the slow, easy pace on Merriweather Island. Taking up a job as a physical trainer serves to keep him in shape while he enjoys a little downtime. Making friends with the local vet—veterinarian, with the local vet—veterinarian, that is—on his morning jog is just a bonus.
When Kendall’s sister tricked her into recruiting Tyler’s help one day, she didn’t fortify herself against a breach to her heart. Making friends with the marine was easy, but helping him overcome the PTSD that holds him captive isn’t. As she picks her way across a minefield of memories and horrors Tyler endured, Kendall begins to hope he could be the man she’s prayed for.
Falling in love wasn’t in Tyler’s orders, but a new deployment to Iraq is. How can he convince Kendall not to go AWOL when she hears? What can he do to convince her that they’ll make it… together?
This “Merriweather book” is the fourth in a new series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.
The Independence Island Series: beach reads aren’t just for summer anymore.

Having read the other books in this series, I looked forward to reading this book and it did not disappoint. With a niece who is a veterinarian and a husband who serves in the military, I appreciated this book.
The dynamics between Kendall and her sister remind me of my sister and me. I enjoyed getting to know them. Having known people who served in the military, I appreciated getting to know Tyler and his experiences. I felt the author did an excellent job conveying the thoughts and experiences of being in an relationship with someone in the military. So check this book out for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Her Merriweather Hero by Rachel Skatvold is a sweet romance and a wonderful return to Merriweather Island. I have truly enjoyed this entire series of books and I was excited to “return” to Merriweather Island with this book. I adored the sweet, clean romance in this book and found the book to be a fun weekend read. The relationship between the sisters and their attempt to start over on the island created a fun book to read. The book does not shy away from serious issues like PTSD and I really appreciates the way this issue was handled by the author. Readers of romantic fiction and women’s fiction will definitely enjoy this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligation. These opinions are entirely my own.
Sisters!!!
I love books that feature sisters; those that are agreeable and friends. The sisters into this book made it all the enjoyable.
I loved how easy conversation was between Kendall and Tyler.
Tyler wasn’t what I was expecting at all. He was kind, calm, reserved but fun to be with. Very welcoming! I admired how he treated Carly and Kendall.
Kendal and Tyler was love at first sight. It was electrifying! Beautiful to see how they complemented each other.
The book revolved around Carly and Kendall moving to the amazing Merriweather Island to start off her clinic and meeting her merriweather hero.
Sweet, captivating book with a story of love, endurance and God as an anchor for them.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion
I am enjoying the books in this “Independence Islands” series. This story has all the things I love about Christian fiction: Interesting storyline; wonderful characters that I came to care about; a sweet and clean romance; and a strong emphasis on how God leads and provides in our lives. Kendall and Carly are two sisters struggling with the tragic loss of their brother; and Tyler is coming to terms with the results of a horrific incident in his military service. Kendall and Tyler are genuinely good people who come to realize that God is their anchor in times of trouble, and that they can trust God as they look towards the future, whatever it may hold for them.
This was my first book to read by this author. I’m not sure who I’ve missed her books up until now, but I’m already looking to see what’s a available from her. If they are all as good as this one, I ready to read another one from her.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I love coming back to the series as each author adds more to the experience of the islands. One of the characters in this novel, Mallory, states “I can’t say I’ve ever been in a situation like yours, but I have experienced loss and the fear of losing someone.”
I think we all can say that. It is a real fear. Fears grip in a fast hold. Fear of moving, changing, growing, losing, loving. But letting that fear go or better yet giving that fear to God releases power and strength to live and grow through the pain and uncertainty. Also, the blessings flow from the relinquished fear.
What an example of the possibility of fear: a military tour overseas where death and wounds prevail. How does one release that fear? The same way a parent lets a child go to college or ride his bike or drive a car. By God’s grace and love. Bad things happen, but He has that in his embrace too.
Her Merriweather Hero is Rachel Skatvold’s contribution and the fourth installment from the Merriweather Island series. I have enjoyed this series to date and I thought this was a great addition to it. Kendall and Tyler had perfect chemistry together. They were so much fun and entertaining and I thought they could be easily relatable for many readers. Their story was such delight to read. Even though, it was somewhat predictable, I still thought it was great and well worth picking up.
I am giving Her Merriweather Hero four and a half stars. I recommend it, as well as, the rest of the series, for readers who enjoy reading clean romance. I am hoping there will be more in this series releasing in the near future. I would love to see more like this one.
I received Her Merriweather Hero from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion
I have really been enjoying all of the books in this series and knew that I would enjoy this book as well. I’m looking forward to someday visiting this set of islands because they live large in my mind.
This book focuses on Kendall and Tyler plus some other characters. But let’s face it. These two are the main stars. It’s their story being told though the supporting characters are great, well developed, and I love them too.
Kendall is a new vet starting her own practice as a mobile vet for the islands. She’ll just do Merriweather first and then start moving to the other islands. She met Beth and Mallory at a camp a long time ago and they’re lifelong friends so that’s a fun connection besides just the islands in the series.
Tyler lost his leg when he lost his brother-in-law in an explosion overseas. Now he’s applied to go back to active duty twice but hasn’t heard anything. And then he meets a girl. Not just any girl but the girl who has the potential to heal his heart and soul.
Can Kendall and Tyler make it work as they’re facing a deployment? Will Carly remain on her bent for self-destruction or will she get turned around?
This was an amazing book and I didn’t want to put it down. I definitely recommend you get a copy and read it. But if we’re being honest I highly suggest you read through the whole series in order as you get the full story of the mobile businesses.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying this series. Is it too much to ask for this place to be real? I want to live on the island and feel the breeze on my face. It would be nice to walk on the beach and hear the waves crash against the rocks. Each book in this series can be read alone, but I highly no insist that you read all of them. Some characters do make appearances in others books which make you feel like seeing family again.
This story focuses on two sisters who decide to come to the island and start a mobile vet clinic. Oh how I loved reading how the sisters had little spats but always seemed to find their way to forgive each other. Kendall is the oldest and has hopes that her sister will not back out of being her assistant at the clinic. There are some funny moments in the story when they first see the house that Kendall bought sight unseen. It is definitely a fixer upper and I chuckled when they realized how much work it needed.
Kendall’s sister sure can be stubborn at times. She still has trouble attending church after something happens that makes her angry at God. Just being on the island with Kendall may help her renew her relationship with God. One thing I really liked about her was how much she wanted to help Kendall grow her business. It is a great example of family working together and encouraging each other.
Tyler is my favorite character because he is kindhearted and willing to help others. I appreciated the author highlighting him as a marine. Seeing his friend pay the ultimate sacrifice makes him feel guilty. He doesn’t focus on his own injury but instead helps out his sister who was married to his best friend. I liked how the author talks about PTSD and shows how Tyler still needs to seek counseling to help him.
Guilt and fear seem to be a theme in this story. Some feel guilt over a loss while others fear of being hurt. The faith element is very good in the story and mentions several scriptures about these subjects. God doesn’t want us to live in fear. He wants us to trust Him and allow him to heal the pain and hurt we carry around. It’s a good story where love grows between two people. It won’t be easy for them but they will need to give God their burdens and let Him work out whatever obstacles they face. I loved how they Kendall tells Tyler she will wait for him to return . I want to say thank you to all who have served and still serve for our country. We appreciate your sacrifice to keep this nation safe from the enemy. I am hoping at some point in the series we catch up with Kendall and Tyler because I don’t feel like their story was complete.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Her Merriweather Hero by Rachel Skatvold is book four in the Independence Island Series. This is a series written by six different authors that takes place of five different islands. In this story we meet marine sergeant Tyler Banner who is staying with his sister while he recovers from an injury.
Kendal bought a home, sight unseen, and moved to the island with her sister to start a traveling veterinarian clinic. The home is in bad shape and Tyler offers to help her.
This is a great story to read to get away from everything. It is very well written with strong characters. The main characters all are dealing with grief in their own way, while trying to move forward. I enjoy the parts where the characters help each other, even though they are short on time for themselves. I just love the island setting in this series and the chance to meet characters from previous stories..
I received an ebook copy of this story from Celebrate Lit, this is my honest review.
5 things from Her Merriweather Hero
by Rachel Skatvold
1)Veterinarian, Kendall Mulligan, is the latest mobile business owner on Independence Islands.
2) Marine, Tyler Banner, deals with PTSD and a lost leg while he helps his war-widowed sister.
3) A crab-chasing Australian Shepherd.
4) An overbearing mother and a reformed flighty sister.
5) “I don’t see a piece of junk. I see potential. Our new mobile animal clinic. We’ll get it fixed up in no time. You may not think I take many things seriously, but it’s different this time. It’s going to be a new beginning for us.”
Her Merriweather Hero was a sweet story of new beginnings and new love. I really appreciate stories that portray the military and mental health. In my
opinion, many people don’t understand the depths of sacrifice
the men and women in the military make. While HMH
did touch on PTSD, I felt that it breezed over the sacrifices made,
mentally and physically. I would have liked to see more depth in the
struggle.

Her Merriweather Hero is the latest volume in the Merriweather Island series. Kendall and her sister have moved to Merriweather Island in order to set up a much needed traveling veterinary clinic. The sisters have their hands full repairing their new home that was purchased sight unseen abd provided them with a few surprises.Getting their RV ready to serve as their clinic adds even more work to their full schedule. Neighbor Tyler Banner is recovering from serious injuries suffered in Iraq. He spends most of his time doing what he can to stay busy. He is not comfortable with the hand life has dealt him and his one ambition is to recover enough to be allowed to go back into active service.
Most readers will quickly guess that Tyler and Kendall will probably end up as a couple. What they will not know is how the pair will reach that point following their initial meeting on the beach. The steady plot, vivid setting, and strong characterizations worked together to make Her Merriweather Hero a joy to read. PTSD is a prominent aspect of the story but I did feel that Tyler’s loss of a leg was somewhat ignored for the most part. For such a recent injury, it seemed that he was already functioning much more normally than I would have expected. Even so with its excellent blend of family relationships, friendship, and faith, this book is definitely worthwhile reading.

Tyler Banner is a Marine who is on some down time from the military due to medical release. He’s helping his sister Tiffany out when he meets Kendall Mulligan the new town veterinarian. He’s mesmerized by her and strikes up a conversation. These characters will reel you in and make you feel like you’re right there in Merriweather rooting them on.
A treasure of a story with well-developed characters that will keep you turning the pages. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed this “beach” read. An island/beach location, sweet romance, and interesting characters all rounded it out.
Charming romance! I found Kendall and Tyler’s story to be a perfect blend of family, faith and romance. I loved the way the author dealt with PTSD and the role counseling and faith had in the healing process. Although all of the books in this series can be read as a standalone, I hope we learn more of Kendall and Tyler’s story in future books. Perfect for fans of Christian contemporary romance.
