Could you murder your wife to save your daughter?
With a hook like that – could I murder my wife to save my daughter??? – I just had to read this cunning thriller, and I am glad I did. This is one of those stories that straps you in for a riveting rollercoaster ride before finally delivering a twist to die for. Adam is a master storyteller who has sold some two million copies of his novels and this clever psychological thriller is – unsurprisingly – one of his all-time bestsellers.
Very interesting plot and I had no idea how it would turn out. Nick and Tasha’s 5 year old daughter, Ellie, is abducted on Nick’s watch. Nick receives an email that Ellie is safe and will be returned when he kills his wife, Tasha. He tells no one about the email. Excitement builds from there, will he? or won’t he, can he?, who is the sender of the email, why? I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
It was a unique plot to me l I enjoyed it.
I”d started reading this yesterday and mistakenly picked it up while waiting for car service only to realise I had to keep reading it when got back home. One minute your feeling sorry for this naive husband and can’t stand the wife and then he’s being asked to kill the wife, where’s this coming from but oh boy the story really gets you in and ending not what I expected. Great read, thankyou
Original idea. I enjoyed the twists. It was hard to put down.
Could you murder your wife to save your daughter? I had to read the whole book to discover the answer, despite giving it only 2 stars. I just had to know the answer.
As for the plot, Nick and Tasha Connor’s life is everyday normal, until one morning when their five-year-old daughter, Ellie, is kidnapped. This is where the fun starts, and I had high hopes for the book. Secrets are revealed, characters are unmasked for what they really are, and then the plot thickens. Nick receives a ransom e-mail showing him Ellie is fine, and will be returned unharmed. The price: kill Tasha. So, does he murder his wife to save his daughter? I’ll let you read.
The writing is solid, but the characters were so unbelievable. At the beginning of Ellie’s disappearance, they are frantic. Two days later, he’s popping into a pub for a drink and she’s taking a long soak in the tub. He’s visiting an acquaintance, albeit for nefarious reasons, but she doesn’t question why he’s leaving the house at a time like that. Then she makes plans to meet up at her friends house for a visit. I don’t think normal people behave in this manner under these circumstances.
I would rate the book 4 stars based on plot and writing style, but had to deduct 2 stars for the actual storyline not being true to life as well as the rushed and unsatisfying ending.
