“With action-packed twists and turns and a pace that doesn’t let up until the thrilling conclusion, Her Last Day is a brilliant start to a gripping new series from T.R. Ragan.” —Robert Bryndza, #1 international bestselling author of The Girl in the Ice Ten years ago, PI Jessie Cole and reporter Ben Morrison each suffered a tragedy that changed their lives—and now these two strangers are about to … these two strangers are about to share a nightmare.
For Jessie, who makes her living finding missing persons, no case has consumed her more than the disappearance of her younger sister, Sophie. But left alone to raise Sophie’s daughter, she realizes that solving the case has become an unhealthy obsession.
For Ben, a horrific car accident resulted in scars both physical and emotional—and amnesia that has made his life a mystery. But curiously, out of his shattered memories, there’s one person he recognizes without a doubt: Jessie’s sister. He just doesn’t know why. Yet.
But Sophie isn’t the only phantom drawing Jessie and Ben together. An elusive serial murderer known as the Heartless Killer has reemerged from the shadows. His next move will cut even deeper into Jessie’s worst fears. And for Ben, what happens this time is going to be unforgettable.

This is the first book of the Jessie Cole series and we are off to a good start!
I really enjoy books that contain different plots that intersect at some point and this one didn’t disappoint! While I did get annoyed with Jessie a time or two, there are good characters and very evil characters with a fair amount of action, edge of your seat page-turning, violence, torture, murder, mental health issues, twists / turns, and answers.
I’m looking forward to reading all of the books in this series.

Thriller, page turner, intriguing
Creepy start to a new series
Private investigator Jessie Cole has been raising her niece for ten years, ever since her sister disappeared.
Journalist Ben Morrison has been getting married, raising children, and working for a newspaper ever since he was in an almost fatal car crash ten years ago – a car crash that left him with burn scars and no memory.
Both Jessie and Ben keep crossing paths while Jessie looks for a missing girl and Ben starts having flashbacks of his previous life. Oh, and there’s a serial killer on the loose too.
I enjoyed the characters and look forward to reading the next two books in the series. The storyline was twisted and the bad guy was seriously demented.
I highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys psychological thrillers.
One sitting read! Great series. Can get it on Kindle.
***4.5***
So this is a triller, a nerve racking one if I may add. My friend Meg recommended to me since she knows I love a good suspense book and damn she was so right to tell me all about this baby. It’s sooooo awesomely disturbing that I don’t know where to start with this review. The story will keep you guessing about EVERYTHING going on. It’s bloody, gruesome. You have a SERIAL KILLER on the loose for years, missing people, a lost sister, desperate parents, a PI, FBI and the Police Department. The whole shanannigans. If you don’t have a strong stomach don’t read this book. Trust me is so well written that you will feel all the pain and see everything like you are there with the victims. If you are a fan of trillers, suspense, and dark reads THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU.
The story presents an imaginative fast moving plot driving two people trying to find answers to their own tragedies. Jessie is seeking answers to her sister’s disappearance. Ben is trying to find the past he lost in a serious accident years earlier. The plot brings these two together in a search for Jessie’s client’s missing daughter. Complicating their search is the police search for a serial killer that has plagued the area for years.
It is unclear why the author added another story line that involves Jessie in a brush with the law. Perhaps that story is intended to portray Jessie as an experience PI. However, she makes a serious mistake that complicated her defense. That mistake and another one toward the end that endangers her life brings her level of experience in question.
Ben and Jessie work well together, and the story ending sets the conditions for a sequel.
Excellent read
Multiple mysteries and a twisted serial killer make up this suspense in a new series that centers around a PI and a crime reporter.
First off I want to say that the two main protagonists in this series are not a couple.
Jessie Cole is a PI who also became the legal guardian of her niece Olivia when her sister Sophie disappeared 10 years ago. Jessie hasn’t had it easy. Her mom walked away from her life as a wife and mother leaving two girls to be raised by a man who couldn’t cope with his wife’s abandonment and instead turned to alcohol which meant Jessie being the oldest had to pick up the slack on raising her younger sister along with her niece when Sophie got pregnant at 16. When the story starts off Jessie is in trouble for shooting a stalker she had been following for a client even though he fired at her first.
Ten years ago Ben Morrison woke up in a burning car barely managing to get himself out before the car blew up. That is the first day of his memories. He lost all memory before that still hasn’t recovered any of them. Ben went on to marry and have children with the nurse who helped in his recovery. He also went back to the job he had before the accident, a crime reporter. Most of their articles recently have been covering the serial killer known as the Heartless Killer (more to come on this). One night as he is watching an old cold case show the missing person being featured triggers a memory for Ben – something he hasn’t had since the accident. The missing woman being featured is Sophie Cole… From that moment Ben becomes obsessed with finding out how he could be connected to Sophie which of course puts him on a path to Jessie.
There are multiple mysteries going on as I stated in the beginning. Jessie’s shooting of the peeping tom/stalker lawyer, a young schizophrenic girls disappearance, tracking the last day of Sophie’s life before she went missing and the serial killer.
As the reader we are given a front row seat to both the killer POV and the victims POV – let me tell ya some sick and twisted right there..
There are two more secondary characters who I think will play a big part in this series. One is Detective Colin Grayson who has quite the past with Jessie – one where he messed up big time – and who is now trying to work his way back to the boyfriend zone after being thrown in the friend zone. Colin is one of the main detectives on the Heartless Killer case. The other character is Jessie’s best friend Andriana Iudice who is a lawyer.
Jessie is a strong female character that stepped up to the plate when her family fell apart. Becoming a PI wasnt her life’s dream but she had to put money on the table. She is a bit impulsive at times which gets her into some hairy situations.
Ben is still a big fat mystery by the end of this book. Going to be interesting to see what falls out of his closet in future books.
A good read. Never thought it was going to have the conclusion it did.
Didn’t really care for it. Could not get into characters.
Her Last Day is a great addition to her previously published works. The author takes some questionable moments and turns them into light moments. Great reading.
This book is not for the faint of heart. Some of the occurrences are horrific. There is mystery, suspense. Family hardships, strengths, There is hope. Life. Jessie Cole is a private eye. This is her story as she tracks down the last day anyone saw here sister Sophie, and so much, much more. Extremely well written. I need more Jessie Cole. Thank you Thomas & Mercer, thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to receive this arc that I volunteered to review.
