Miss Kate is full of spontaneity and dreams of fashion. Put her in a room with Ackerman’s fashion plates, the makings of a new bonnet, and a strong cup of tea and she would be happy for hours. Why does she go too balls? Not to dance with the men, but to study the dresses. But what happens when the best, most brightly dressed dandy of a man in Brighton crosses her path? True love of course. But … will her sisters agree with the match?
A family of sisters full of warmth and relationships, struggles, is passed along as tenants from one owner to another. Though of distant royal blood and with many high ranking friends, they have little hope for security or marriage…until help comes from unexpected sources.

Another Delightful Story!
I love reading about the Sisters of Sussex!
This is the delightful story about Miss Kate and Lord Dennison. Kate has a secret, writing for a paper. Logan hides behind outlandish clothing. He has felt the sting of rejection in the past. She does not ever want to be hungry again.
I loved their moments alone, when they show who they really were, not what is projected in public.
When the truth comes out, will risking their hearts win?
I highly recommend reading this book!
This is the first book I’ve read from Jen Geigle Johnson, and I really enjoyed these delightfully unique characters. Spunky and not afraid to take risks, these characters had me holding my breath and rapidly turning pages to see what the results would be of their risky choices. The outlandish outfits that these characters design had me drawing pictures in my imagination.
While this is the third book in this series, readers like myself can easily jump right in with book #3 and not feel lost. I do want to go back and read the first two books in this series, now that I know these sisters, I am anxious to know the earlier stories and to read book four!
If you enjoy reading clean, Regency Romance, then you are sure to be delighted with this book just as I have been, just be forewarned that you will undoubtedly want to snap up the other books in this series as well!
(I receive complimentary books from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including Netgalley. I am not required to write positive reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)
I continue to enjoy this series of five sisters finding their HEA. You know you are invested in the characters when you are cringing at the prospect of the mistakes they are obviously going to make along the way. I strongly recommend reading from the first book in the series – The Duke’s Second Chance, which introduces these sisters to their readers.
This is the third book in the Sisters of Sussex series and also my first book by this author
I have not read the first two books, but I plan to go back and remedy that since I enjoyed this one so much. This was a delightful story with charming characters. I enjoyed reading the fun and witty dialogues. Kate was so endearing and I’m glad Lord Dennison got the chance to redeem himself after their first meeting! He appears to be a bit of a dandy, but his heart has been broken in the past and that is just his way of protecting himself. Their sweet and romantic love story will definitely pull at your heartstrings. A lovely story indeed, and I look forward to reading more by this author.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
If you clean, historical romance with interesting characters and witty dialogue, then this is the book is for you. The characters had personalities and were fun to follow. Their dialogue was witty and I enjoyed it and all the drama that came with their relationship. It was a quick read that still kept me engaged and made me want to see their HEA. The romance was sweet and clean and was perfect for the characters and I loved it. The plot line was different but still had the fluffy, sweet romance you expect. I enjoyed this but at some points, it seemed a little disjointed. Otherwise, I loved it and would definitely recommend this.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more in the series.
Lady Kate Standish had known what it was like to be hungry and she never wanted to experience that again. She was a writer for the periodical, “Whims and Fancies” and she seemed to know the fashion trends before they even happened. No one, not even her beloved sisters knew about this secret. Then she met Lord Dennison. She disliked him very much because of his rude behavior until she got to know him. He wasn’t the fashion fop that he pretended to be. There was much more to his character than she found on first notice. She wanted him to know all her secrets.
Logan Dennison was unconcerned with much other than his fashion setting ways. But, when he met Miss Kate, he wanted to be much more. He saw the need for tenant reform in the House of Lords and he was determined to lead the charge toward it. Kate Standish was a beautiful woman but she had a depth of character that he had not known before. He had been spurned by someone he wanted to pledge his love to and he was anxious about ever feeling that kind of pain and humiliation again. He felt a strong attraction and connection to Kate. Was it possible that there could be a forever love between the two of them? Would her secrets destroy it before it even had a chance to blossom?
This was a delightful regency romance full of wonderful imagery and a HEA, as well. The story was clean and without foul language or graphic details of a sexual nature. I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
This is a sweet, charming story that is clean and easy to read. The characters were interesting and the premise was fun, although the plot was quite predictable. I enjoyed the talk about the outlandish fashions and fads and seeing what they would come up with in order to be in the latest style. An enjoyable Regency era tale that can be read in a couple of hours.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This book was so fun! Though the nature of the story is not as deeply rooted in history I was nonetheless impressed with Jen’s research about the fashion and intricacies of the time.
Kate and Logan were by far my favorite pair from this series. I felt Jen did a fantastic job of developing their back ground and insecurities. The plot not only developed their relationship, but also their identity in such a way that you love who they become and their struggle for that right.
Every new book in this series entrenches you more into these sisters’ lives and their mysterious legacy. I can’t wait for the next one!

3.5 stars
I admit I liked this story more than “The Earl’s Winning Wager.” It felt like there was more conflict that had to be overcome, more believable development between Kate and Logan, and the timeline on the love story felt more real. I found it helped if I thought of the book more as a novella (which would be accurate). But the romance in this one was very sweet and I enjoyed it a lot! It’s a little different from most sweet historical romances and I liked that Kate and Logan pushed the boundaries just a bit.
I really like Kate. I like that she is being brave, putting herself out there and making sacrifices to take care of her sisters. She’s spunky and not afraid to voice her opinion, even if it does make her a little unpopular with a certain gentleman. Logan (Lord Dennison) is very interesting and I honestly didn’t like him much at the beginning. He definitely had some humbling to do before I grew to like him (which is one reason I liked Kate’s sharp wit with him; he needed that!). Once he got over himself I liked him much better and the friendship and romance that developed between the two was very sweet.
I think Charity is still my favorite sister. I love any heroine who has strong opinions—especially about things women didn’t normally have strong thoughts about—and isn’t afraid to voice those opinions, even to the gentlemen. Lucy and Grace are also fun. I love Grace’s initiative and that Lucy learned a thing or two about titles. Julia, Logan’s sister, is pretty awesome. She needs a book of her own.
It is so fun when characters are full of personality and spunk; it is even better when this is captured and presented as well as Jen has in this book. Miss Kate and Lord Dennison share a delightful chemistry and had me hooked from start to finish. I have not read the other sister’s in this series (don’t worry, I will be!) and I was able to jump right into the story. I definitely recommend this clean, historical fiction book. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
This fun Regency Era read is the third book in the Lords for the Sisters of Sussex series. Although it works as a stand-alone, I think it would have been more enjoyable if I had first read Books 1 and 2 , The Duke’s Second Chance and The Earl’s Winning Wager. This third installment of the series follows the relationship of Kate Standish (one of the 5 sisters of Sussex) and Lord Logan Dennison who are connected by a mutual interest in fashion prompted by their own reasons—hers out of necessity and his to help him cope with a broken heart. The plot flows at a steady pace, the characters are delightful, and the romance develops sweetly. The vivid descriptions of the outlandish fashions add to the fun, and the serious emotional undertone to all the frivolity adds to the uniqueness of the story. The discoveries relating to the relational link to William the Conqueror continues the interesting mystery element woven into the series. I will definitely be reading the first two books and looking forward to the fourth one Suitors for the Proper Miss releasing in February 2021. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I received a copy of this book in e-book form from the publisher via netgalley but am under no obligation to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I loved reading this book! This book would probably make more sense if you read the previous books first, The Duke’s Second Chance, and The Earl’s Winning Wager.
Kate is such a fun character! I loved the way she makes fashion plates for Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies. She’s the fashion guru of the Sisters of Sussex. She’s kind of a complex character, because she does the fashion plates in secret from her family for her own reasons. Kate makes a mess of things with Logan, Lord Dennison. But she tries to fix things. That part made me laugh, because it only made things worse and worse.
I liked Logan too. He’s a gentleman. Logan is a complex character too. His comments in the first chapter made me laugh just a bit. Logan likes to come across as only caring about his cravat or the cut of his jacket. But that’s not really him either.
I really enjoyed the escape this one gave me. It has great characters and plot. And I can’t wait to read more of the Sisters of Sussex’s stories!
Her Ladies Whims and Fancies was a fun take on a Regency novel. I liked the focus on fashion and the way it not only connected Kate and Logan, but the fun look at Regency clothing it presented in the novel. This story has probably been my favorite of the Sisters of Sussex series so far and I felt like the characters were more well-developed along with the overall plot of the story. I really enjoyed the private walk on the beach Kate and Logan shared and the great romantic chemistry the two had throughout the story. The content is clean while still having some great kissing scenes. The proposal was also a super cute moment.
What an enjoyable whimsical romance unlike any other I have read. I love the characters. They are all genuine and easy to fall in love with. The sisters of Sussex hold their love for one another fiercely. I loved the fashions that were created and vividly described. Some were very comical. I could not imagine myself wearing anything close to them. The romance between Kate and Lord Dennison was dreamy. I would like to have seen their wedding. That would have been the icing on the cake.
I think I have discovered a new favorite book!
It has a sweet tone to it, with humor and love that it leaves you feeling happy.
Kate and Dennison are outrageous and fun to follow as they journey towards a common goal.
I was so very sorry to have this story end!
I look forward to reading more of the Sisters of Sussex. I have not been disappointed in any of them. Each can be read stand alone but are so much richer together.
Kate Standish has a secret even her sisters don’t know about. She’s behind Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies’ fashion plates. Her talent of sketching and love of fashion helped keep herself and her sisters from starvation when their last known relative had died and they were left to live off the charity of others. Now that their circumstances have drastically changed for the better, Kate never wants to go back to those lean times again so she continues to influence ladies dresses and hairstyles with her fashion plate designs.
Lord Logan Denison has always been fashionable, but since his heart was broken he’s taken it a bit to the next level and is now considered a paragon. He revels in the gentlemen copying the cut of his jackets and his intricate cravat knots and is often the subject of of Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies with his colorful vests and shoes.
These two don’t have the best first meeting at Kate’s sister’s wedding, when she overhears a comment Lord Denison makes about her to his sister. He spends the wedding ball trying to apologize and make a better impression to her.
I liked Kate a lot. I understood why she keep her job at Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies to herself–she didn’t think her sisters would understand and it gave her a security she hadn’t had in a very long time. She wasn’t ready to let that go even if it was no longer a necessity. I also like Lord Denison who was not the shallow man he appeared to be at first. He used showing off his new cravats and such as a shield to protect his heart from further hurt. These two had much in common and today would be called “influencers” in their era. We also get a little more information on the mystery surrounding the Standish sisters’ heritage which is fun.
4.5 stars for the latest installment in this fun series.
I enjoyed this sweet regency era romance. It appears to be the third in a series about “Sisters of Sussex” but I did not read earlier entries and had no problems following along. Kate and Lord Dennison get off to a bad start when she overhears his bitter comments about women. Lord D. had been humiliated and suffered a broken heart (or so he thought) when he proposed marriage to a woman he thought loved him and she turned him down. Kate and Lord Dennison’s story is a meeting of the minds and I enjoyed their banter and the realization of their love for each other. There is a secret that throws a wrench into their relationship but they get their HEA.
I recommend if you’re looking for an easy enjoyable read.
I requested an ARC from the publisher via Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.
I love this group of sisters! They are so much fun! You never know what they are going to do next! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
I have received an ARC from the author and all opinions are my own.
This is the third book of this series and I truly enjoyed it. I found the historical aspects quite fascinating and am intrigued to dive into some history books in order to discover more. I’m looking forward to the series continuing with this aspect as well as the sisters finding their own matches. I really enjoyed Lord Logan’s character. Not that I am fashion forward and have never been particularly drawn to these sort of characters in stories, however, his character brought to the fore the fact that you can be fashion savvy and still have serious thoughts to share. I enjoyed his interactions with his sister as well as Kate. I enjoyed how their friendship and then courtship developed and the fact that each of them had to face their own insecurities made the story feel realistic. I also loved how the Duke and Duchess from the first story (and previous) had a more prominent role in this book. I always enjoy this aspect of a series. I love seeing how previous characters are getting on in their lives.
This was a clean and wholesome novel with plenty of humour and sweet moments to satisfy.
I received an ARC of the book but am under no obligation to leave this review.
Sweet, clean story. I liked the characters. Logan took me a little longer to enjoy but I did like him. And Kate was delightful. I love all the sisters interactions. The conflict in the story was no surprise but that is because the reader can see what the characters cannot. It wasn’t hard to see the train wreck coming for us. Blind corners for the characters though. But the conflict was quickly resolved. I loved the feminist elements of the story and how Kate was not content to sit back and see if the men around her would take care of them. I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series.
No sex, language or violence
