An English Lady flees her home in fear of marriage to a cruel English Commander. Seeking shelter, she finds a Scotsman seriously wounded from a battle with the same English Commander. A healer, she saves the Scotsman’s life and flees with him to his home in Scotland. The English Commander will not give up his bride, nor his cruelty, even if he gets her back. A nice steady pace to read a romance with a Scotsman as the hero.
Danger and romance in the highlands. Another wonderful tale by Fiona Faris. Great read
I can always tell when the author immerses themselves into a historical fiction novel because of details to the language. This author has done that. Plus she’s included a storyline full of action and romance. Well worth a read if this genre interests you.
Great story but R rated. This is Fiona Faris’s best book to date! Lots of action, lots of romance, excellent dialogue, an insane bad guy, and a heroic highlander.
Great story and steamy love scenes! 4.5 Stars!
Good plot with twist and turns along their adventure to stay alive until they could reach the keep for safety, from the murdering commander. Great world building and characters you can relate with and just want to be a part of.
The only thing that kept me from 5 stars was the main character Elle excessively cried throughout the book and too many repetitive thoughts, unnecessarily detracted from the great story! I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story with ample steamy love scenes!
I do think it is my first read of Fiona Faris’ work, even if Highlanders and Scotland stories are less easy for me to read, I’m not English, so in addition to understand the main language I have to figure out the Scottish brogue.
But in all, it was a very enjoyable and entertaining read with lot of actions, evil characters and nice peoples.
The author has drawn a great tale of revenge but also of fated love, everything occurring perfectly.
Ella is the heroine as I do love them, nothing badass but not weak too. She has not the strength of a man but she fight with all her inner determination, and the more the story goes on, the more she reveals how capable and strong she is.
« In that moment she revealed the true content of her character. She gave no thought to herself, she would have exposed herself to save him. Surely, he owed her the same. »
Lucas is a good man, despite his doubts, he follows his clan’s men and fights with them what ever might be the cost, he just never suspected it will be his father’s life.
Around Ella, he will act sometime stupidly but it will be only with her safety in mind. He is willing to part with her only to protect her even if it will pain him.
« but his second brush with death left him shaken as well, and she was his anchor. He needed to know she was real and with him in this place.

They are both awesome characters, they are able to share their fears and past issues but they need reinsurance about themselves, they would have needed a good shake for hiding their own feelings, each one believing the other not loving him, which could have saved them a lot of heartaches.
Hopefully they were surrounded by great peoples, able to rattle them if necessary.
In all, it was a awesome story about the journey of two destined peoples finding their way together.
ONE INCREDIBLE READ!!!
Oh, man! Talk about a hard road to follow. This is one exciting, action packed, fast paced, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning wonder that’s as riveting as it is captivating. In a whirlwind of emotions and events that transpire really pulls those heartstrings to the max. All the drama, frustration, heartache, uncertainty, nailbiting and a little suspense increases steadily while tension spirials as the plot thickens. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises that make for one incredible experience. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little jewel together beautifully. Fiona did an amazing job bringing this read to life. Fantastic job Fiona, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
A tale about a wounded warrior and a lady who was betrothed to a cruel insane man. How they escaped and made it to safety and how the insane man found them. The story drew me in and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Her best book yet-
This one had me hooked from the very first few pages, as the female lead is finding out right away that her father is losing her while gambling (probably purposefully) to a hateful commander to get her married off. I found myself appalled and immediately sympathetic toward her and was at the edge of my seat waiting to see how she could escape this terrible situation. Meanwhile, our male lead watches a beloved family member get killed in battle, sustains a major injury himself, and ends up in hiding as he recovers, vowing vengeance on the killer. The two eventually have a run-in, find a mutual common factor they’re both dealing with, and find sparks flying right away, yet there are some issues that get in their way of a relationship. I ended up speed reading this book as soon as I started it because it just hooks you in and won’t let go with the constant action. The author does a great job with the world and character building. I felt like I was right there in the Scottish Highlands with the imagery. Lots of romance, some humor, and even makes a good thriller as the two face danger through a good bit of the book. Loved it and glad I stumbled onto this author’s work.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
