I really enjoyed this story of Myra and Greer! No one does Scottish Romance like Barbara Bard! I loved all the characters in this book. They are described so well it feels like they are your friends and family. The plot is original! There is plenty of tragedy, drama, mystery, romance and comedy! I especially love the extended epilogue to these books! I highly recommend this book and this author!
I didn’t feel a connection/chemistry with the H/h. She is a maid, a commoner and within a short period of time, is bossing people around. Plus add that she was arrogant so many times that I could not figure out why the H liked her.
The is a sick villain who has murder just under 20 people. Some of it described some not. So be warned this story is violent.
The ending was ridiculous and we get an epilogue that was ok. You have to download the extended epilogue, which I’ve said many times, I dislike immensely. The extended epilogue takes place 6 months in the future. SPOILER – SPOILER SPOILER –
The h and her best friend are both pregnant and well with rounded bellies. The don’t get married for 6 months – OMG – WHY? END OF SPOILER — END OF SPOILER
There is a lot of lovemaking, outside of marriage, heat level 4.5 out of 5. Since I didn’t care for them, it wasn’t filled with passion, but lust.
No cheating for our H/h but is with a two side character’s, no cliffhanger, HEA, I didn’t feel there was romance, and steam. (ljb)
Capturing a Highlander’s Heart!
When Greer MacEilish, the son of the Laird, and his men spot a body on the moors, their first thought is that the murderer of young girls has claimed another victim, but when they reach the body the young woman is unconscious but alive. When Myra regains consciousness she is grateful to be cared for but frightened when she realizes she is a prisoner of the Scottish murderers. As kind as the Lairds household is, she is still afraid to tell them the identity of the man who tried to kill her even as more butchered girls are found.
This is an excellent Highland romance. I fell in love with the characters. They are likable, intelligent and engaging and there is plenty of action. Any fan of historical romances will like this story.
WOW! Her Highland Protector This was a totally different subject matter than I have read before. Barbara Bard has outdone herself with this novel!! It is about a Midieval Serial Killer. I wasn’t so sure when I first started reading if this would be something I would enjoy but decided to keep reading. I am truly glad that I did! The story takes off right from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat. Barbaras’ characters never fail to delight; they are likeable (and very unlikable), engaging individuals who seem very realistic. I could not wait for the story to unfold. Throw in the Scottish Brogue, full of action and drama, murder, sizzling romance , danger and suspense. This book will hold your attention to the fullest. Remarkable emotions, and unforgettable characters. This story has a way of grabbing you the first few pages and then you can’t put the book down until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, from cover to cover. The Extended Epilogue rounds out the story very well.
Once you get past the typos, nonsequitors in the plot, and some historical inaccuracies the book is entertaining. It dose irk me when a book ends at 83% so that the author can hype the next book in the series. Write the book, pay attention to details, and proof your books. If you do that, people will want to read your next book.
Myra Myra Myra!
This was a tuff review for me to write. First because it took me 4 days to read the book. The longest it has ever taken me to read one of Barbara Bard’s books. I kept having to put it down to shake my head. I’ve wrote and rewrote my review because I know we all interpret things differently so instead of overshadowing a good review with my amazement at how utterly ridiculous and childlike I deem Myra to be. I will say it’s not the Barbara Bard I’m used to and again it may just be me. I love Barbara Bard’s books and look forward to her next. I’m giving it a four star because it’s still a great story with a good plot line also some good characters. I realize that Myra is the heroine of the story but she was just to much. It reminded me of a child playing princess and everything was about her, it was all great and she was all great and everyone was in awe her. Myra, Myra Myra ugh!
Really well written good storyline romance all the characters are likeable and well developed. The writing that just flows naturally and gives you the feeling of actually being there.
I liked the change of pace in this book. The h and H are not rich entitled people, but a laird to be and a servant girl. It was good to see the other side of things for a change. The Earl of Primshire was a sick evil soulless creature with the need to kill. Kudos to Myra- she took a few beatings, but she kept on ticking ! One tough warrior! I was shocked that Greer and Myra jumped the gun b/c of mutual lust/love!!! I loved when villains turn against each other. It warms my heart. Sweet ending with two weddings Win win!.
There is a man and beast really stalking the Scottish Moors and killing young Scottish women. This was when knew she was being followed and yet she never saw anyone she muttered a prayer she started running and being chased and she finally saw the lights of a small village and she knew that if she got there she would be safe. But she never made it the beast caught her and dragged her away so that he could torture her as he killed her and listen to her scream which he did. Myra Travers who worked in the castle of the Earl of Primshire was outside to join a happy mood when Lilibet called to her and said she needed to start thinking about getting married she is an orphan she says no one would want to marry her. Lilibet told her she was the most beautiful girl in the district in a number of men would be honored to have her as your wife told her to stay outside for another 10 minutes and then to go back to work. When the Earl returned Myra happen to be in the Bailey she was carrying a basket of laundry she swept the low courtesy and bowed her head until he left her vicinity Lord Marsden Platt was informed that the Duchess of Greenbrier had arrived yesterday Primshire wanted to know what she wanted no one knew Myra smiled and waved at the men as she was walking across the Bailey and thought maybe one day she would stop and talk to but she had to get the claimed laundry back to the Earl’s manservant so she went up to his quarters knocked on the door but it was not James his lordships manservant it was the Earl himself to open the door she curtsied said your laundering my Lord and brought it in he permitted her to enter and as she went to leave she curtsied once again and he raised her chin up and forced her to look in his icy blue eyes when she looked she knew that he was a cold ruthless man and was probably capable of horrible things he smiled but his eyes didn’t and ask her name she told him and he told her to go now and she ran to her room and slammed the door and bolted it trembling trying to keep from crying she didn’t understand why but she knew she was lying to yourself Greer MacEilish stood over the naked dead girl and waited to see if she belonged to someone in the village Jared Macalester said Galvin was checking in the village to see if she belonged there, there had been 13 girls killed the woman looked down in the ravine and whispered Maisy it was her daughter and she collapsed in a dead faint Greer was sure it was one man doing this though his father believed it was Highway men and robbers doing. And they decided that he was an Englishman and he had a horse. Decided that the killer was from Primshire Castle Greer in the amended of followed him down the tiny valley between three hills and camp there rotating a watch on the castle Gavin raised back down the hill and told Greer someone was approaching from the castle carrying a body. Thomas gave Myra a note for Lilibet and she went to deliver it going out to the kitchen or she would cross the central courtyard through postern door and at the grand Hall leave that chamber and climbed the steps to Lilibet’s room. She heard a strange noise and she thought someone could be heard instead it was the Earl pumping herself against the Duchess is bottom. The Earl in the Duchess all Myra world and tried to run the Earl caught her and hit her in the head with something with something bright and shiny in his hand. He carried her out to the Moors dumped her thinking she was dead. To find out if Myra lives or dies and who might save her you have to read the rest of the book. And it’s a very good book…
