After a difficult childhood and a turbulent stint in the military, Declan Burke finally got his act together. Now he’s a battle-hardened professional bodyguard who takes his job at McKay-Taggart seriously and his playtime – and his playmates – just as seriously. One thing he never does, however, is mix business with pleasure. But when the mysterious, gorgeous Suzanne D’Angelo needs his protection … protection from a stalker, his desire for her burns out of control, tempting him to break all the rules…even as he’s drawn into a dark, dangerous world he didn’t know existed. Suzanne is an earthbound angel on her critical first mission: protecting Declan from an emerging supernatural threat at all costs. To keep him close, she hires him as her bodyguard. It doesn’t take long for her to realize that she’s in over her head, defenseless against this devastatingly sexy human who makes her crave his forbidden touch. Together they’ll have to draw on every ounce of their collective training to resist each other as the enemy closes in, but soon it becomes apparent that nothing could have prepared them for the menace to their lives…or their hearts.

This one was so imaginative and also a crossover novel.
I am new to Lexi Blake masters and mercenaries but have been a fan from the beginning of the Demonica world.
This is about Memitim Suzanne the favourite sister of Hawkyn.
Suzanne’s primori charge is Declan and he is in danger but her usual warning system for detection is not working so she comes up with a scheme to ensure his ongoing safety.
She sets herself up in a DeAngelo mansion and gets the unfallen Cipher to create a rich heiress background and also a stalker problem and hires Declan as her personal live-in bodyguard.
Suzanne and Declan had such personal chemistry it leapt off the page.
I also really loved the fact that Declan was a bit of a nerd alongside his kick-ass persona.
I adored his inner geek just so much.
Suzanne is a young angel a baby at seventy-five she does her job but she is different from the other Memitims in as such she had a happy human life and liked it.
She longs for more than her present existence and from the start had a major crush on her human charge.
This story sets the stage for events in the next one and we also get to get more of an insight into cipher and his happy go lucky personality which I imagine is all set to change with his betrayal and kidnap and transformation into a true fallen angel.
Such a great addition to the series and can’t wait to read Cipher next.

I love, love, love how Ms Ione jumped right into the world Lexi Blake created and added her unique voice and magical spin to make a memorable and believable story. I’m a fan of Larissa to begin with, but this was so much fun to read. I hope she writes more of these cross author romances.
I am not normally a reader of paranormal romance but as a huge lover of the Masters and Mercenaries series, I decided that in for a penny, in for a pound with this book. Well, let me tell you I am so glad I didn’t skip this book because Declan and Suzanne had me bewitched. Their story has all the angst, drama, wit and steamy action that we all crave from a McKay- Taggart assignment. Her Guardian Angel will have you captivated in a world that will satisfy every dream, fantasy and wish you could have ever thought of. Just remember that when one of Ian Taggart’s team fall, they fall hard and Declan is no exception to the rule.
Not bad
I was sceptical to someone meddling with Lexi Blake but his author that’s new to me did a great job and I’m now curious about her series.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
Sizzling chemistry between Suzanne and Declan
This author was easy to read and did give me a push in to her world that I believe can be exiting. Because I’ve never read this series I felt a little lost at times but I did enjoy reading this story.
The storyline was good and progresses nicely to a happy ending.
I’m a believer in the supernatural and I love tv shows about it but haven’t read many books, maybe I start now.
4 solid stars
I love the Demonica world, but Lexi Blake’s world was new to me, but knowing that her Masters & Mercenaries series isn’t a paranormal world, I was very curious as to how this crossover was going to be handled. It turns out that this book changed a lot in the Demonica world. Enough that it’s going to have permanent effects for any future books.
Declan was a great character, and Suzanne was a decent character as well. It was fun watching Declan learn about this new world. I can’t wait to see what Larissa Ione does next!
10/06/19 updated review after reading Her Guardian Angel as part of the Master and Mercenaries world-
It was interesting seeing these two world mix now that I am familiar with both worlds. As I knew from previously reading it, there was minimal contact with the MT characters. But, even that little bit was interesting now that I know these characters.
Wow! I’ve never read Lexi Blake’s series but I am a huge fan of Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. And while this novella was too short to be a favorite, it was a great read and as always, I can’t wait for more in the Demonica universe.
4.5 stars
I think I was looking forward to this story in the collection even more than Close Cover, and Declan and Suzanne definitely lived up to my expectations!
Declan has always had almost superhuman skills when we have seen him in action in the past M&M stories, and now we finally get to find out why. Dec is Suzanne’s assigned Primori- a human whose life is fated to have an important effect on the world in some way. When Declan is attacked by a demon and her warning system doesn’t alert her that he is in danger, she puts a plan into motion to keep him close despite the protests of her overprotective big brother Hawkyn. So what if she finds her assigned charge to be far too sexy for her own good? She can behave herself… right? If not, she is determined to have enough fun that losing the chance to Ascend will be worth it!
Declan’s family history has given him a natural aversion to the rich and powerful, so taking an assignment as a bodyguard to a spoiled heiress is not exactly his first choice. Big Tag doesn’t give him much choice though after Declan passes out on the street; no one realizes he passed out thanks to a demon mind attack on him, especially Dec himself. When he realizes he is going to be living in close proximity to the lovely Suzanne for an indefinite length of time, he knows he is going to be in for a whole lot of frustration in more ways than one! She is the oddest mix of innocence at times and wise beyond her years at others and he just cannot figure her out. His idea to try to get some real answers out of her turns way hotter than either of them expected, but things are about to get even more dangerous.
Her Guardian Angel was a wonderful mix of hot, sexy moments with great characters and world building that I have come to expect from Ms. Ione’s Demonica world! The addition of the faces from the McKay – Taggart world were a fun bonus for me as a fan of both series, and this story will go into the books as one to re-read for me when I need a quick re-visit to the Demonica universe!

Avid Reader –
M/F Paranormal Romance
Triggers: Attempted murder
This is the first in this series that I’ve read. I will say that I didn’t feel that I needed to read the previous books because of how things were explained and the glossary key. This is really a story about finding your true calling.
Suzanne is charged with protecting Declan. She is making her way through life in order to become a full-fledged angel. What she knows for sure is that she is attracted to her charge and there is a demon after him whom she has never encountered before. In order to protect Declan better, she asks her siblings to help her set up a backstory and hires Declan, who is a bodyguard, to protect her.
Declan has had a challenging life. He was abused as a child and then went into the military where he saw a lot of things he wishes he could un-see. When he’s hired to protect who he believes is a wealthy woman, he has preconceived notions about her. He ran away from money at the first chance he had. What he finds is Suzanne – a woman who is much more than she seems.
With a war brewing, it’s up to Suzanne to protect Declan, who is to play an integral part in this war. However, doing this without his knowledge proves to be very difficult. What makes this even more difficult is her attraction and the reciprocation of attraction by Declan.
This was entertaining and I wish that we would have gotten to see more of Declan and Suzanne further in to the story, but hopefully in more books, we’ll see them more.
Ruthie –
This is part of the Masters & Mercenaries crossover series that is being released by a number of super talented authors. I am so happy to be reading these books and reviewing them. I am huge M&M fan, and this was another great addition to the series. I have not read the Demonica Underworld series before but intend to remedy that as soon as I get a chance. I was grateful of the glossary at the beginning.
Declan has always been slightly aloof and resentful, and it is clear that his hateful upbringing affected him greatly. The references here can only make you angry at his father and sad for the little boy who suffered such verbal abuse. I was very happy he stood up for himself finally.
Things are happening on the streets of Dallas which should not be – like horned demons appearing. Suzanne needs to stay close and protect Dec, but the easiest way to ensure she can be by his side is to employ him as a bodyguard. I love this turnabout and how she has to try and act human in his presence. Her affinity to cooking and the ability to affect moods through her shows is another fabulous touch. This is not a long book, yet it packs in plenty of explanation of the underworld, the hierarchy, and the rules – which Suzanne is determined to break with Dec!
As we learn about the threat to Dec, and he discovers more about himself, he and Suz also find out how good they are together. It is a brilliant combination of supernatural, romance, and hope for the future of them as a couple and the world as a whole. Read it and be as enthralled as I was. Thank you, Ms. Ione, for bringing a whole new dimension to M&M.

4 Star Review of Her Guardian Angel
This is part of the current Lexi Blake Crossover Collection and written by an Larissa Ione who is a new author to me.
I am extremely familiar with Lexi Blake and happily admit that the Master & Mercenaries series is one of my all time favourite series. With that being stated, I was anxious to see how these books would meld into the M & M world.
Declan Burke is a professional bodyguard for McKay-Taggart. He takes his work and play seriously and will not mix business with pleasure. That is until he meets Suzanne D’Angelo (an earthbound angel) who apparently needs protection from a stalker. In reality it is Suzanne who is trying to protect Declan from a demon.
The attraction Declan feels for Suzanne is electric and she tempts him to break his own rules. The awareness and chemistry is mutual and they both fight hard to ignore the pull, but eventually give in.
Will danger pull these two apart of will they work together to destroy those who are trying to keep them apart?
I do think it would be beneficial to have been familiar with the authors Demonica Underworld series prior to reading this book , however having said that I did enjoy the crossover and although I was a tad confused on occasion, found that it did not deeply impact on my ability to read and enjoy the book.
I have a confession to make. I’ve not read anything by this author before now. (I know, shameful, right?!?) As much as I love paranormal romance, and as many times as I’ve looked at this author and this series, I’ve just not gotten around to it. After reading this story, that is an oversight I’m going to have to correct ASAP! The good news is, this book was written in such a way that I didn’t feel like I was lost or had missed anything (other than some really good stories) and was able to keep up with the story just fine.
I have to admit, I was initially concerned about how a PNR was going to fit into the totally contemporary world of the Masters & Mercenaries. I’m totally surprised and impressed at how well it turned out. I’m a huge fan of comic based super hero movies (Avengers, Superman, Batman, etc) and this book read a lot like that.
Declan and Suzanne are amazing together. They just fit together perfectly. And throughout everything that is thrown at them that doesn’t waver. There is so much going on in this book, that I was totally engrossed the entire time I was reading. Considering I was coming in blind, with no back story from the Demonica Underworld Series, I was hooked right from page 1. I’m totally amazed at how much I enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different from a PNR. I’m definitely going to go back and start at the beginning now!
Declan Burke isn’t happy when he’s pulled off the assignment he has been prepping for in the jungle by his boss Ian Taggart to act as a babysitter for a rich client who has a stalker. He’s not a fan of the overly wealthy since his own family pretty much ignored him his entire life. But his client, Suzanne D’Angelo doesn’t act like the socialites he’s dealt with in the past . . . and his attraction for his out of this world.
Suzanne D’Angelo doesn’t really have a stalker. She’s an earthbound angel whose first mission is to protect Declan from any and all supernatural threats, including the nasty demon that is currently stalking him. The closer she gets to Declan, the more she realizes that she’s head over heels for him, even if a relationship between them is forbidden. She knows she’ll do anything to keep him safe . . . . and to enjoy his touch if only for just one night.
As Declan is drawn deeper into a world he thought only existed in comic books, he and Suzanne are also drawn deeper into their attraction and need for one another. They’ll need to place all their trust in one another to eliminate the threat against Declan and those he cares about while also working to do their part in the war that is coming between good and evil.
As a huge fan of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series, I wasn’t sure how a book with her characters could be set in a paranormal setting, but Larissa Ione totally made it work. I felt like I was able to jump into the Demonica world with the help of the provided glossary and was able to thoroughly enjoy Declan and Suzanne’s story.
Suzanne is a complete bada$$ in this story. Even though she struggles to find her place as an earthbound angel and forget her ties to her human life, she refuses to let that interfere with keeping Declan safe. She’s willing to give up her future to be with him for as long as she can be, even if it’s only a brief time. She knows what she wants, and it’s Declan.
I was very excited to learn Declan’s back story. I love how his geekiness came full circle as he learns his comic book obsession is more legitimate than he ever could have imagined. His ability to adapt to his altering reality is also well written and feels like this bit of paranormal could really be happening.
This book has hot and steamy fun and more action than you can imagine. It flows well and is fast paced keeping readers turning page after page. I have to say, I really enjoyed my first journey into the Demonica world. 5 stars.
