I read this book the first time in the previously released anthology. So much fun to read it again.
Dalton and Aurora are a great couple. He had such painful baggage, could he fight through and get his HEA? There was some unexpected danger in this book that was totally heart racing. Great, entertaining storyline with the emotional feels.
Acton from the start that keeps throughout the book as Aurora and Dalton get to know each other. Both were great characters and lots of emotions were packed into this book. I loved it!
Dalton is a man who has demons and just wants a relaxing break from life to deal with some emotional baggage. However, he finds himself thrown into a dangerous situation when a woman on a horse starts getting shot at right in front of him.
From the very beginning Dalton is intrigued with Aurora. Her dedication to her horse, her ability to stand up to him and she was sassy and funny. In a very short while, she was someone he liked hanging around with. However, when more puzzle pieces start to come together, it isn’t too long for Dalton to realize that someone wants to hurt Aurora.
Aurora is a stubborn as they get. There were many times, I wanted to stand up and cheer and say, “you go girl”. However, there was one time after not seeing Dalton for a while that she tries to put her foot down and Dalton wasn’t having it with good reason. That part made me eye roll because she was too stubborn at that point.
I loved the parts with Dalton’s teammates and reading about them helping him out. I also laughed out loud when Aurora called them the Scooby Gang. Hunters response was epic, “Please don’t say that in front of Kenna. I’m begging you”. With Jake piping up stating “I’m telling everyone that Black Dawn’s new team name is the Scooby Gang!!!” LOL!!
I would HIGHLY recommend this book.
Loved This Journey of Dalton & Aurora
This read started out with a bang and went uphill all the way. Dalton stepping up to protect Aurora and her horses from whatever threat was out there, while trying to get through his own grief.
Her grandfather, Gunnar, was a hoot and a matchmaker, none too subtle either lol.
This has it all, the romance with heat, action and bits of humor all blended perfectly to keep you turning pages and give the happy sigh at the end, after taking you on one h*ll of a ride!
Romance, Heat, Action, Fast paced, Humor, HEA, Stand Alone
Dalton takes a vacation every year from everyone and tries to get over a loss and fights his guilt over it but when he sees Aurora come flying off her horse he steps into action. Will he stay and figure out if someone is after her or will he head home? Aurora is a horse trainer but doesn’t know who is after her.
Will these two come together or will the people get to her?
Absolutely love this book. Its was such an emotional read and just blows me away.
Her Guarded Hero follows Black Dawn team member Dalton, who meets Aurora while he’s vacationing in Lake Tahoe. Aurora’s work with abused horses has put her in danger, and Dalton has to call in favors from his teammates to track down those who are threatening her.
Their love story is supposed to just stay “no strings attached” as Dalton is still recovering from the tragic loss of his family years earlier, but love never follows the rules and soon Dalton realizes that his heart isn’t going to let him walk away for good.
I loved both main characters in this story, and their struggles – both internal and external – made for a captivating, non-stop read. The emotions are vividly displayed, with layers of subtlety revealed as the story develops. Dalton is everything we want in a swoon-worthy book hero, and Aurora is his perfect match.
This was my personal favorite of the series because I’m very familiar with the Lake Tahoe and Sierra Foothills setting. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
In this story, we have Dalton Sullivan, a Black Dawn Navy SEAL who has never recovered from a very tragic loss five years ago. Having just returned from a mission, he is in Lake Tahoe on a solitary hiking trip. A trip that is cut short when he witness a woman on the horse being shot at . He rescues her never realizing that meeting Aurora will change his life forever. Instead of his hiking trip, he decides to help Aurora and her grandfather in a horse farm, where she works with abused horses. While trying to figure out who is out to harm Aurora, a relationship between them starts, even though they both know they don’t have a future.
It’s a touching story that at times is heartbreaking , full of suspense, whodunit, abused horses, family dynamics, and lots of action. But in the end , it’s also a story about hope , love and new beginnings.
Definitely another winner by this talented author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Dalton and Aurora’s story was amazing! This series keeps getting better! Dalton’s past has him damaged in a way he thinks he will never heal. Then he meets Aurora. He finds something he never thought he would but still thinks he’s too damaged to deserve her. Throw in some action and drama and you won’t want to put this book down! Another win!
What a wonderful love story with some murder and mayhem thrown in, between a man that suffered a devastating loss and a most sweet siren that will lead him thru it.
Another Astounding Read from this Talented Author!!
This story will break your heart, then sew the pieces back together again (in the best way possible). Includes brilliant character building, intense relationships between the SEAL team and then Dalton and Aurora, not to mention the ability to gain the trust of abused horses. Amazing read – Ms. O’Leary writes the best SEALS!!!!
Dalton still feels the loss of his young daughter at the hands of his late wife. He feels he should have been there more to ensure Reagan’s safety. But fate has ore in store for Dalton. Whilst out in the wilds he comes across the lovely Aurora and her horse when someone takes pot shots at them.
Aurora is an ace horsewoman but she surely lives in world of her own making. She doesn’t want to believe that someone could hate her enough to want to hurt her. But with her investigation into a ring of abuse against horses, she may be closer to discovering the truth than she thought.
Aurora and Dalton both need each other in ways they wouldn’t expect. Each mends the others heart and soul. I loved that whilst they were quick to fall into bed, the relationship and their troubles extends over a longer period of time, giving them the opportunity to see life outside of their little lust filled bubble!
Dalton Sullivan is the quiet, introspective Black Dawn SEAL team member. He carries an enormous amount of emotional pain. Make no mistake he’s no less lethal than his brothers. Rescuing Aurora Chance after her horse was shot was the beginning of something he never saw coming. Aurora is known far and wide for being a horse whisperer. She and her grandfather operate a very successful horse ranch and have no known enemies but someone is out to harm her. Their attraction is electric but he can make no promises. She says she’d never hold him to any.
Read it in the Love under Siege anthology. Can’t remember too much about it, except that I like it a lot at the time.
Her Guarded Hero is book 5 in Caitlyn O’Leary’s series Black Dawn. The series looks at life and loves of the members of the Navy Seals team the Black Dawn. I have read all 4 books prior to this and though I have liked every one of her SEAL heroes thus far , Dalton Sullivan holds a special place in my heart. Caitlyn has a way with words that brings her characters alive and makes them seem real. She really understands the personality of the Navy Seals. She captures their strength, their honor and code of ethics. She imbues her characters with camaraderie and strong sense of family just like you would see when you interact with Special Ops men in real life. But with Dalton she adds the emotional vulnerability experienced with the loss of a child. Oh to be loved by a man who feels as deeply as Dalton! I could only cry when Caitlyn takes us into Daltons memories of his daughter, Reagan, and her tragic loss. I cheered when he began to open up to our heroine and desperately hoped he would find the strength to love again. Then I found myself wanting to throttle him as he tries to walk away from a love that everyone but he can see is going to save him. But Caitlyn would never let us romance readers down, as through a few more nail- biting twists and turns she brings us once again to the happily ever after we expect. Phew! From start to finish ,with romance intertwined with suspense and mystery, this novel was a roller coaster ride of emotion and intrigue.
The only complaint I had was this edition had more typos , missed words and grammatical errors then I was use to. Caitlyn’s previous novels seemed better edited then this one did.
Wow! What a great read. The story-line is wonderful with a touch of mystery and plenty of romance. I love it when a gal can melt the heart of a mighty SEAL and that happens in this book. In fact, most of the Black Dawn team have women that understand them and make life interesting. Aurora suddenly was flying off her horse and nearly into the arm of Dalton as she crashed to the ground at his feet. The horse took off and she lay there bleeding. Yes, this is how they met and life got really interesting. Other than a few proofing errors, this book is a perfect afternoon read while sipping ice tea.
a few misspelled words, this book is a good read better than the last book.
I adored every single minute of this story and was rather heartbroken to see it come to an end!
Dalton’s history wrecked my heart, but it also formed him into the protective, loving, heart-stealing man he became. Even if I didn’t agree with some of his convictions about himself, he got his head sorted out quickly. And I fell for him just as quickly and as hard as Aurora did – maybe faster as I didn’t have an actual fall preceding my downfall. lol
I adored everything about Aurora – she had wisdom and the best kind of sass all wrapped around a heart of gold. She had the perfect kind of soft-strength to face down the demons Dalton carried and defeat them along side of him.
I loved being out at her family’s ranch and getting to meet Gunnar and spend time with the horses (and now I even more so want to find a nearby horse ranch!). I also enjoyed seeing the brotherhood still as strong and devoted as ever – and experience Aurora’s trio of best-friend-sisters. Friendship bonds like that are a treasure.
This book touches beautifully on a couple of sensitive topics (grief being a big one) and gives you all the feels to truly experience and understand where they’re coming from.
As a stand alone, this is an amazing story, and as part of the Black Dawn world, it’s a keeper. Before I was done reading, I knew this book was destined for my all time favorites shelf.
Dalton Sullivan, a Black Dawn Navy SEAL, was a troubled man who had never recovered from a tragic loss five years ago. Because of this, he spent a lot of time alone. He was on a hiking trip when he saw a woman being shot at while riding. He wanted to find out who was shooting at Aurora and to dig into the other dangerous things going on around her, so he stayed at the horse farm, where she worked with abused horses. While working there, a relationship started between Dalton and Aurora, even though they knew it would only be temporary.
This is a great romantic suspense. Gotta love a protective hero, with incredible skills, who works at keeping the heroine safe. This book would have been better with editing. Actually, it needs a beta reader to clean out the random words/phrases.
Dalton has had a sad and tramatic life when he lost his wife and daughter in a car accident. Aurora was a horse whisperer with abused horses. He accidentally meets her while he’s out hiking and someone is shooting at her and her horse. Things get electric between them. Dalton and Gunnar become protective and asks for re enforcements when more attacks happened. Loved this story. There were several errors but still a great story.
Horses and a Caitlyn O’Leary seal hero, what else do you really need? Dalton was just the right amount of alpha with soft center. Aurora was amazing and I want to be her because she’s a horse whisperer with a seal. I’ll admit, they’re not the best O’Leary couple that I’ve read, meaning they aren’t the first couple I immediately think of, but I still love them together. All in all another great outing from Black Dawn.
