lin is used to getting her own way. She’s learned to tell people what they want to hear and carry on with what she wants to do. Gunnar, the mysterious blacksmith has very different ideas about how a wife should behave and has no problem scorching her bare bottom for fibbing. It will take all of their combined courage, strength and love to meet their destiny and confront the icy evil that wants to … to claim all of the world.
Return to the magical world of the snowforce, where the men are dominant, the women are smart and your scars tell the world who you are. Set in a realm replete with magical creatures, noble, shifter warriors and true love, it’s a transporting read.
Her Gilded Firebird is a part of the Norse Warriors series but is a standalone book. It offers rich world-building, a strong-willed heroine and thorough bare bottomed spankings, if any of those things offend, try a different book.

It was quite good read a whirlwind of events that guarantees excitement. I loved how the characters grew through the story.
~Their adventure begins with a sweet romance~
Review rating 3.5 out of 5 stars – Reading this story will transport to the little isolated European village of, where a song and dance of a romance between a mysterious handsome giant new to their town and Elin, the oldest fair daughter of hardworking dairy farmers.
The story takes an adventurous turn when Gunnar is visited by two creatures from native folklore who need his help for a magical battle ahead. Gunnar has skills which Elin did not know he possesses. Many elements are woven into a good storyline!
The prologue might work better as an epilogue. It feels out of place at the beginning, but it does a good job establishing who Gunnar and Elin are and that they have a loving, discipline-based marriage.
The first chapter begins with a Viking-era meet cute. I like that they have sweet, funny, moments together. Elin is new to spanking and discipline yet Gunnar’s firm hand doesn’t crush Elin’s spirit, merely tempers her recklessness.
There’s explicit sex and stern discipline, but it isn’t super-graphic or overly-long. While Gunnar’s discipline can be harsh, it’s delivered with love. He freely shows Elin affection all throughout the book and punishes her because he loves her and needs her to be respectful and safe, especially in her new surroundings.
The book ends rather abruptly without any real wrap up. That’s why the prologue could easily be used as an epilogue, showing Gunnar and Elin happy and satisfied in the near future.
The terrific storyline and the great characters grabbed my attention from the very first page and kept me turning the pages until I finished reading the very last page!
Her Gilded Firebird is the third book in the Norse Warrior series. Elin and Gunnar are newly wed, working out the kinks in their relationship, and looking forward to their future. Their lives and destinies are about to change, though, when Gunnar is called back to the Snowforce, and Elin comes along to love and support her warrior. Magic is flowing and dark forces are working against their efforts, but can Gunnar keep Elin protected in their new world?
I literally could not put this book down! It was the perfect read on a snowy day, the forges and their passion keeping me nice and warm! I loved Gunnar and Elin. Gunnar had this amazing sense of self and of the rules that he grew up around. He was protective, sweet, and very stern when he needed to be. He definitely had his hands full with Elin, who was strong willed, protective, smart, and had her own destiny to fulfill. I loved reading her come into her own realization of what being a Snowforce bride would mean, and how she could best help everyone. This was a fascinating story, a strong romance, and I am so in love with the premise of this series! I love the historical, magical, shifting, and discipline aspects of each storyline, and I loved this addition to the series!
This is the third book in this series, and while each book can be read as a stand alone, but I feel like the story is better enjoyed if you read them in order. One of my favorite things about this series is the touch of fantasy and magic. Another thing I love about this series is the world building. It truly paints a picture in my imagination and easily transports me to another world. The rich detail, in both the characters and the setting, makes it easy to lose track of time, and I read it in one sitting. The romance between Gunnar and Elin is both sweet and passionate, with a ton of sexiness thrown in. It is told from Elin’s POV, and most of the story takes place in the past. I love that we understand where the relationship between Elin and Gunnar is now before seeing how they got here. It added a nostalgic flavor to the story that I found endearing. Everything about this one is magical.
This book is full of magic and mystery. The author creates a vivid world with a story that drags the reader in. The characters are extremely well written and this book was a great read, from beginning to end. I did not want to put it down.

This book is part of the author’s gilded series. Very adult oriented because of the intense and oftentimes harsh discipline as well as the steamy sex. But having read the previous books in the series, I knew what to expect. There is passion and love and a very exciting and dramatic storyline going on. Gunnar and Elin’s story is wonderful. I know that they are happy but still, the book ends so abruptly. Oh well, until the next one because the overall story is not finished!

Absolutely fantastic
A Norse tale with war and magic and a whole lot of heat. Gunnar the blademaster and Elin his bride leave their home and go to help the Snowforce. This is the third book in the series I did not read the others, but I was not lost when reading this one. There a bit of domestic discipline and danger in this tale along with interesting characters and twists. I thought the dog carts were a cool idea I really enjoy the book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

This is book 3 in the series and I have not read any of the previous books and still found this an enjoyable read. The author has done a great job in describing the world that this is set in and the characters are likable and well rounded. There are some unexpected events in the story which helped keep me engaged whilst reading it. It’s a well written book by a new author for me. I have loved all of the other Susannah Shannon books I have read and this one is no exception! I loved it! It is the 3rd book in the Norse Warrior Series and it is just as hot, steamy, and sexy as the first 2! Gunnar is a blacksmith who was part of the SnowForce but left at 13 and became a blacksmith’s apprentice. Erin is a dairymaid on her parents farm. They are smitten with each other when they meet while she is getting water from the stream and he is basically naked after his sauna. Courting leads to marriage but Elin sometimes has trouble staying out of trouble or keeping her mouth quiet. Both of these offenses usually lead to her to getting disciplined by the massive yet very handsome blacksmith. Gunnar is needed by the SnowForce and brings Elin with him. Little does Elin know that she is an integral part of the bigger plan. But all is not what is seems as they head from keep to keep getting closer to the keep closest to the top of the world. A must read! Sexy, Magical, Full of fun and Full of Adventure!

There’s stuff that’s great about this book and parts that are lacking. Her Gilded Firebird starts with the establishment of Gunnar and Elin’s relationship—their meeting, courtship, and marriage. And this first third of the book reads like a historical romance, with just hints of the magic that imbues this world. But the connection to previous books in this series by Shannon fully comes out as Gunnar is drawn back to his youthful life in the Snowforce when a completely unexpected danger comes upon the Keeps that protect their land from the dangers in the north. Their journey to the Keeps drives the last two-thirds of the book, where it’s revealed that Elin has her own unique destiny to fulfill.
There’s a lot to like about Her Gilded Firebird. I loved the characters of Gunnar and Elin. The book is told from Elin’s POV, and we see that she’s both young and inexperienced as well as smart and willing to learn. Gunnar is pretty much the perfect hero, which makes sense as we see him through Elin’s eyes. It is fantastic to revisit so many characters from earlier books in the Norse Warrior series, and to see them used in relevant ways in this book as well. And how can you lose when your hero gets to ride a moose?
But there are elements of Her Gilded Firebird that are more challenging. Elin’s abilities were weirdly anticipated by others, and I felt as if they were never explained fully. Elin seemed at times a healer, at times a clairvoyant, and at times a seer. She had moments of entering a dream state that weren’t clear to me as a reader, or feelings of being taken over that were hard to differentiate from a “normal” state. I wish characters who had a better understanding of what she was undergoing had explained more to her (and by default to us as readers).
I also felt the disciplinary elements between Gunnar and Elin were heavy-handed (sorry for that pun!). Multiple scenes of discipline happened so soon after another that I didn’t feel like Elin had a chance to recover, and that’s a bad impression to leave. I also think that they showed a lack of judgment on part of Elin, and that didn’t blend well, particularly late in Her Gilded Firebird, with the overall knowledge and awareness that Elin was gaining. I think several of these scenes, and a jarring and unrelated prologue, could have been dropped with no detriment to the overall story.
I really love the world Shannon is building here, the whole concept of the Snowforce, and the ongoing and growing threat from the north that continues to be explored. I hope future books focus more on this story and less on repetitive discipline scenes. And I truly hope Willem and Signe’s story is coming next!
Her Gilded Firebird is the third in the Gilded Warrior series. After reading this book I loved it so much that I went back and read the first two. You do not have to read them in order. The story line is great. I found a new favorite author.

I really loved this story. It was so well written, and was a wonderful love story between 2 very special people. And it very nicely shows that a man can discipline his wife totally out of love. It is also a very cleverly written story of magic and fantasy, as well as ordinary humans that interact with magical creatures. The hard working dairy farm family is treated with as much respect by the author as great magical creatures are. It was a delightful story that I was sad to see end.
