Tracy Crosswhite returns in the second book in the page-turning series by New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni.Homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite has returned to the police force after the sensational retrial of her sister’s killer. With clues scarce and more victims dying, Tracy realizes the key to solving the murders may lie in a decade-old homicide investigation that others, including her captain, Johnny Nolasco, would prefer to keep buried. I hope you’re hungry for a delicious thriller because Dugoni serves justice, along with red herring and unexpected twists, in the second installment of his Tracy Crosswhite series.
This is the second installment in the detective Tracy Crosswhite series. In this novel, exotic dancers are being strangled by a noose around their neck which tightens when their limbs strain against the hog-tied position they have been put in. Tracy also is the recipient of a noose when she is out at the shooting range. While investigating the death of the dancers, Tracy revisits a murder that happened nine years ago with similar characteristics. The problem? Her captain was the lead detective on the case. He has issues with Tracy and wants to see her taken down. Therefore, he does whatever he can to impede Tracy’s progress. Meanwhile, Tracy is also being pursued by the person who left the noose.
Tracy and old high school friend-now attorney-Dan’s relationship also moves forward in this novel. It is nice to see her with a supportive lover.
Tracy‘s partnership with the other detectives on the case is also solid. I loved how this novel delved into forensic evidence, dogged police work, and various suspects. I had my suspicions of the murderer early on, but I wasn’t able to put together the entire case against him. This was a great novel, but I did enjoy the first book in the series more. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

Wonderful! Fast paced, grabs you from the start and won’t let go. Kept me guessing. Every time I thought I knew who was doing the nefarious deeds the book had no problems with telling me…nope.
The vivid descriptions put you in the character’s place. I felt the heart pounding fear with Tracy as she racing along trying to find the right place. I teared up at the end as I’d imagined sitting there with the families and fellow SPD officers.
Just wonderful.
“Her Final Breath” features Detective Tracy Crosswhite in a second book by Robert Dugoni. He apparently believed she is a series-worthy character and, I wholeheartedly agree. The story begins shortly after the first book (“My Sister’s Grave”) concludes with Detective Crosswhite resuming her job with the Seattle Police Department homicide unit. She and her team members find themselves dealing with another pacific northwest serial killer whose victims, this time, are exotic dancers. Tracy is being stalked and the reader is left to figure out if it’s the killer or some other deranged lunatic. Dugoni deftly builds tension while weaving unanswered questions and characters from the first Crosswhite story into the mystery confronting Tracy and her police detective partner, Kins. Once again she is tormented and hindered by their supervisor, the arrogant, misogynistic head of the Violent Crimes Section, Captain Johnny Nolasco.
I’ve read enough serial killer novels that I usually have little interest in another, however, Dugoni is such an excellent storyteller that I was drawn in to the drama. He skillfully builds Crosswhite into an interesting and complex character that I want to know more about. I plan to follow the events of her fictional life and have already purchased the next book in the series. Dugoni is one of the best at his craft. Her Final Breath gets my strongest recommendation.
Loved this whole series
Mr. Dugoni has peaked my ‘interest’ in Det. Tracy Crosswhite again. This is the third book I’ve read and am looking forward to the next chapter in Tracy’s life. The action in this book just kept coming and kept me guessing right up to the end. I had it narrowed to two suspects…and of course, I chose the wrong one. 🙂 Anyway, there are lots of avenues to explore in Tracy’s life: her cop side, her romantic side and her friendship side with her ‘team’. On to the next one in the series: In the Clearing. Thanks.
Tracy Crosswhite is at it again! This time she must capture a serial killer who won’t stop. With her boss against her and the killings that keep on coming she must find a way to catch this monster.
Good read! No one will ever mistake this as great literature but it is well written with believable characters, solid plotting, and suspense.
Awesome author, this is the next on my reading list.
I am hooked on this series! This one starts out with Tracy at the shooting range helping a fellow female officer and when she is the last one to lock up and the lights, which are on an automatic timer, go out the dogs next door start barking. Tracy feels like she is being watched. This has been happening a lot and when she gets to the gate to leave there is a noose waiting for her. What an opening! Tracy is the lead detective on “The Cowboy” serial killer case. Lots of twists and turns and, of course, her captain is at the center of it. I could not stop listening to this one!
My favorite author in his genre, this was another hit out of the ballpark for me. His characters are great and storylines are delicious.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR BOTH THE AUDIOBOOK AND EBOOK VERSIONS
So interesting loved the twists. Great characters and plenty of action. It is suspenseful and intriguing. Very well written. The narration was wonderfully done. I recommend this book and I am anxious for the next book in this series.
Her Final Breath (Tracy Crosswhite, #2), my fourth read from author Robert Dugoni. Outstanding police fiction. 11-hours 28-minute/426-pages. I’m voluntarily reading & reviewing it because every book needs reviews. Narrator Emily Sutton-Smith’s outstanding narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. I look forward to reading more from this author. Now I’m going out to buy and read In the Clearing (Tracy Crosswhite, #3). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Tracy Crosswhite is a very likable character, as is her boyfriend Dan and her close colleagues! The storyline is tangled and complex. The end was totally unpredictable to me. After all the brawls Tracy was in throughout the story I did not expect such a rational end. Quite awesome!
Talk about a page turner. I had trouble putting it down about half way through. This was even better than the first book in the series in terms of the suspense. A very satisfying read.
A well-written series with this being book 2 in the series. There are some predictable bits, but I like the interactions of the squad in this book.
Such an amazing read. This book shows that there are bad cops on the force and how persistent one cop is to get the job done correctly and efficiently.
