3.5, but I’ll bump it up because the characters were so fun. I’ve kinda been hooked on small town stories lately and this one caught my eye. It’s the first book I’ve read by Donna Michaels and it’s a good start to what looks to be a good series. It’s sort of a second chance romance, but there was never a real first romance, there was an unfulfilled crush. Both Jordan and Cole have suffered similar losses, both of their spouses died violent deaths. Very different, but the aftermath was the same. The only thing is that Jordan crawled her way back to life; Cole has shut himself off from life. Cole was once one of her best friends, she’s not about to let him wallow in his grief like everyone else seems willing to do. Nope. She’s bound and determined to bring the “old Cole” back to life. She’s only home for a short while, to plan the McCall’s fortieth anniversary celebration, and then she’s headed back to CA. Can she accomplish her goal before she leaves? What will the fallout be? Whatever it is, whatever direction fate has in mind for her and Cole’s future, she knows she has to do it.
This is a series about three families that lived in Harland County, TX. Their kids grew up together and now they’re slowing coming back home. The parents have plans and come hell our high water, their kids will fall in line. What’s not to like about two sets of meddling parents who “gently” nudge their children in a certain direction? This was cute, fun, and quick. There’s no big intrigue or suspense, just pure entertainment about people you could live next door to.

I purchased a copy of the novel Her Fated Cowboy( Harland County Series Book 1): Cole by Donna Michaels and this review was given freely.
An emotional steamy second chance at love story taking place at Wild Creek Ranch two years after the tragic Christmas in the Prequel. Old family friends reunite their children after 10 years with a 2 week hidden agenda to match the Masters’ California restaurateur daughters with the Texas McCalls’ sons thus bringing their children healing and love: police officer Jordan’s witnessing her husband’s death, Multi-millionaire software company CEO Cole’s wife killed in a car accident, divorced chef Kerri, and unlucky in love playboy/rancher Connor. Aided by her persistent bulldozer personality, Jordan tries to regain her childhood friend by bringing Cole out of his grief but her childhood crush turns to love resulting in her question where she really belongs and Cole questioning his ability to handle another loss.
Ending contains a humorous hook.
“Her Fated Cowboy” (Harland County Book 1) by Donna Michaels is a great read. I loved reading Cole and Jordan’s story. This is an excellent start to the Harland County series. Hot cowboys, close friends and family, entertaining and interesting characters, passion, romance, humor, overcoming losses, reuniting with first loves, happily ever afters, and more. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, hot cowboys, and series.
This terrific book by New York Times and USA Today bestseller Donna Michaels was a great read. First of all, I loved that the main characters weren’t college kids and had some life behind them, and not all of it was good times. Ms. Michaels went into some detail about the baggage each was carrying and took some care in making each character think seriously about their effect on the other. The first book in her Harland County series, it was well written and fast-paced. Well done, Ms. Michaels. Looking forward to reading the next one.
What a great couple Cole and Jordan were. Childhood friends, they each went their own way and came full circle.
Both of them have dealt with grief, both still healing and really need this second chance at happiness.
Fun story, great plot, excellent characters and an entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loved it! Looking forward to reading more in the series along with her other books!
Jordan Ryan and Cole McCall were neighbors who grew up together. Their families stayed close even after the Ryan’s moved away to California. When they come back together for an anniversary party for Cole’s parents they still feel the same attraction. Both Jordan and Cole have their broken hearts to mend before they can learn to love someone else. This is a wonderful story of healing and finding the one true love your heart yearns for.
Always love Donna Michaels books. She keeps you reading to find out what will happen next.
