Will has devoted his life to enraging his loathsome father by creating one scandal after the next. Duty forces him back to the wife he resents, but he isn’t prepared for the raw desire she makes him feel. Seducing her will hardly be a tedious task. Guarding his heart, however, is another matter entirely.

I’m not sure why there are negative reviews. Yes, in the beginning, Will was a complete ass. He admits it himself. Victoria was the loveable wife that he abandoned to thwart his father’s plans. Once Will gets to know his wife and starts falling in love with her, he becomes reformed and loving towards his wife. I liked the characters and the forced marriage trope always makes for an interesting story. Regardless if it is the wife or husband that is forced. I’m definitely reading to read book 2.
A triumphant first book in series
This is a triumphant first book in a series that shows great promise. The plot is full of emotional twists and turns. The characters are strong and crafted wonderfully. This is a great book for all those who love hot steamy historical romances that have plenty of intrigue.
Victoria is an American heiress for whom her parents want to buy a title. She is married to Will, Earl of Pembroke, a handsome rake. But he is forced into this marriage by his cruel, cold father, the Duke of Cranley. An only child, Will suffered through a loveless, lonely boyhood, enduring beatings and belittlement from his father and cruelty from his mother, who he looked to for comfort and affection. Shipped off to school at age 8, it is no wonder he grew into a man who did all he could to get revenge on his father by his reckless and scandalous life style. He did as ordered and married Victoria, and after consummating the marriage, he left her in the country for months to resume his dissolute life. When threatened with severing his allowance unless he returned to his wife and produced an heir, Will returned to Victoria. Astounded by all the improvements she made and the respect the servants gave to her, Will sees Victoria for the first time – her beauty and intelligence, her warmth and understanding. At first distrustful of his motives, Victoria is no match for his charms. But along the way, Will’s plan of seducing his wife and returning to London backfires – an impossibility! Can Victoria overcome her suspicions and can Will learn to open his heart?? A fun and touching romance of discovering your heart and learning to leave the past and the scars of childhood, which turned Will into a worthless man, focused on revenge which ultimately brings no happiness. Instead, they overcome the lies and take the gifts of today to achieve joy-filled tomorrows!
Another great story!
In Scarlett Scott’s “Her Errant Earl” I absolutely loved the match up of the Earl of Pembroke and Victoria! A marriage of convenience which turns out to be a huge surprise for the Earl. This wife is definitely not what he bargained for. She’s strong, determined, and beautiful, and will demand the respect and love she deserves. A rocky and beautiful romance with lots of banter and desire between these two. Awesome!
I was really torn about how to rate this book – I hated the Earl of Pembroke, he was such a sleazeball & I almost stopped reading because I just didn’t see any hope for him changing. I kept reading in hopes he would change & I am glad I did. Even though I continued to hate through 3/4 of the book, I enjoyed Victoria’s plight to being wedded, bedded & left in the country without her husband – though I thought she forgave too easily on several occasions. However; in the end, they did find their HEA in spite of Will’s domineering Duke of a father, his past that kept appearing to stop any happiness & he really does become a changed man with the love of Victoria. I do recommend this romance but be warned the Hero (I say that lightly) will make you disgusted & the bedroom scenes are very descriptive!
Victoria an American heiress married will or as she calls him prembrook he abandoned her for 5 months after consummation their marriage . One night he returns and gets the shock of his life of the change in his American mouse wife. Claims he missed wants to start a new. Will she give him what he needs or is lying again to just abandon her again
I really liked this book character string determined and kept my attention.
4.5 Stars
When Victoria fell in love with the Earl of Pembroke, she never imagined he’d heartlessly wed, bed, and abandon her in the countryside. Five months later he suddenly returns, determined to prove to her he’s a changed man, she’s not about to forgive him, trust him, or succumb to his scorching kisses. Will has devoted his life to enraging his loathsome father by creating one scandal after the next. Duty forces him back to the wife he resents, but he isn’t prepared for the raw desire she makes him feel.
A very enjoyable book of a marriage of convenience. Will had a difficult childhood & has grown up hating his domineering, objectionable father but he’s always bent to his father’s dictates as the Duke holds the purse strings. Victoria is a rich American who for all his faults loves Will. There are misunderstandings & secrets that mar the path to their HEA. The characters are well portrayed & likeable, the story is well paced & flows really well. I look forward to reading more in the series.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The Earl of Pembroke and Victoria have a marriage of convenience. After he leaves her after their wedding night in the country she makes the best of it. He loses his stripend from his father until he can make sure he gets Victoria with child. Do they make a child together? Do they go through life with the old duke hanging money over their heads? The book is for eighteen and over due to the sex in the book. There is not any violence. I will read this book again.
