Navy SEAL Dex Evans’ buddies play a joke on him that backfires and lands him with a gorgeous, funny, spitfire of a woman e-mailing him. Dex can’t believe his friends stupidity or his good luck. Is it possible that he has struck gold in the world of on-line dating through a prank? Single mother, Kenna Wright was in way over her head, when she met the handsome Navy warrior. She’s used to … used to putting her teenage son and work ahead of everything, but maybe it’s time to think about her needs. And this Navy man puts the ‘N’ in needy.
Then one of her co-workers is murdered and it looks like Kenna might be the next one in the killer’s crosshairs. Knowing that the clock is ticking, Dex brings in his SEAL team to make sure that the woman, who has come to mean everything to him, does not become the next victim.

This is the story of Navy Seal Dex Evans and Nurse Kenna Wright who is a single mom of a teenage son. When his fellow Seal team members prank him by setting him up an online dating personal ad Dex is not happy. He spends four days contacting over 200 women to cancel and explain he had been hacked. When Dex gets to Kenna’s ad, he is just totally intrigued by her. When one of her coworkers is murdered, it looks like Kenna may be next on the killer’s list. Dex is crazy about Kenna from the start, but due to a teenage pregnancy and a bad divorce Kenna is very gun shy. I also loved this story too. It again has the danger, angst, intensity, and endless passionate chemistry and some great banter.
This is the second book in the ‘Black Dawn’ series. I also found this to be a very enjoyable read. So far, I feel this series could be read as standalone. I loved this story from the start, didn’t want to stop reading it. Practical jokes are only funny if they don’t include matters of the heart. Dating is hard enough! But I felt Dex handled it really well and cleaned the mess his friend put him in up. Plus, he got more then he bargained for. I really enjoyed the correspondence between Dex and Kenna. They were playful and made me laugh. Not only did I enjoy the entertaining correspondence between the characters, but I enjoyed the suspense. I also felt the characters and the story were well written. I look forward to reading more from this author not just from this series but others as well. Would I recommend this book to friends and family? Most defiantly!
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, (also own this book from a boxed set) this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!
Navy Seal Dexter Evans ended up with a profile on an online dating site as a joke by the computer expert of another Seal Team. That profile had also responded to 228 women. Dee emailed 227 of them to explain what happened but was intrigued by the response from one. So Not Mary Poppins, nicknamed Poppy by Dee, Kenna Wright made Dee laugh and they emailed a few times until she freaked and cut him off and deleted her profile. This has a determined fun loving Navy Seal, a neurotic mom and nurse, a really good son, an interfering employer/friend, 2 clueless cops, a psycho serial killer after Kenna and the whole team trying to find out who the killer is. This is such a good read
I’ve found a new military romantic suspense author to add to my favorites list! I totally adored this story – perfect mix of love story and action! Kenna’s got sass that serves her well and a amazing love for her boy. Dex has the smarts, the will power and the protective instincts to meet his woman head on. They compliment each other perfectly! Throw in a bad guy story line that keeps ya guessing and a teenage boy turning to be a man and I’m swoonin’ over it!
My only wish would be that Kenna’s stubborn strength would have eased up earlier and she let go and leaned more on Dex. I get why she didn’t, but it just hurt my heart so much for her.
I’m looking forward to discovering more stories in this world.
One of the things I love about Caitlyn’s Series is how they intertwine. In this one Clint from Midnight Delta Team has played quite the prank on Dex of Black Dawn.
Signed up for a dating site with emails sent to a couple hundred women, Dex is ready to strangle Clint as he responds explaining how it’s all a misunderstanding due to a hack. That is until the last one, SNMP intrigued him and made him laugh, he had to respond to her.
Kenna only signed up on the site to satisfy friends that she’s getting out there. She wasn’t quite sure why she responded to SailorBoy69, there was just something about him.
These two are a hoot, after a couple of emails she decides to stop the foolishness and deletes her profile. However, not before Dex has collected what information he can.
Her employer Rosalie has other ideas since her grandson owns the site. She decides to throw these two together in a project for her. Then the fun really begins.
Of course you realize things can’t go smoothly, and things start happening quickly from here.
Dex and Kenna have much to learn about each other, it’s a slow but steady build up to some really intense heat.
A murder, threats and so much more as this relationship develops. We see a lot more of Clint and his team as well as things get more intense. Enough hold your breath suspense that I couldn’t put this book down.
Great storyline. Could not wait to finish to see how it ended. And I was not disappointed.
I loved Dex and Kenna. They are so realistic, funny at times, and so protective and hard headed at other times. So human!
Her Captivated Hero by Caitlyn O’Leary grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. Navy SEAL Gray Tyler is head of his Black Ops Team Black Dawn. He meets Riya Patel at a bridal shower for the intended bride of one of his teammates, (after she tasers a handsy guy for not backing off when asked!), he demands the taser, and is immediately drawn to her fiestyness. Riya is this tiny, beautiful, brilliant dark haired beauty that knocks Gray for a loop! She’s a scientist with two degrees in molecular science, and chemistry. She works with a group that often does government assignments. Gray is very protective, and as Gray and Ryia become closer, Ryia is revealed to be a little quirky. She’s very methodical, and does not always pick up on social signals. Gray learns that she has high functioning Asperger’s, and while little mundane things might trip her up, she has a brilliant mind. This makes no difference to Gray, as he has fallen head over heels in love with her.
A deadly toxic virus is produced for specific targets, and Ryia, with her expertise, is brought in by the Government to find an antidote. Gray is furious and afraid for Ryia being put in danger. Gray’s team is sent with Ryia to provide backup and protection. But she alone can work to develop the antidote. On the mission, anything that can go wrong, does! This is another one Caitlyn’s Alpha heroes, and the strong beautiful women they love. Don’t miss her Captivated Hero!
“But what I really want to know….is if you will trust me with a little piece of your heart” Can I just sigh right there, this rugged SEAL had the words and the actions to go with them.
Dex finds Kenna on a dating site after being set up, Kenna is as reluctant for a relationship as he is. These two had way more than chemistry, they shared wit and morals. Both were there for their family and others less fortunate. The story had action and drama and some heart stopping moments. I kept thinking no, surely the author won’t kill her off or I’ll have to hunt her down.
Great story, fantastic character, another winner for Caitlyn O’Leary. Bravo, you give me the ‘feels’ everytime.
Wow… this is stunner. Everything about this book is 5 stars. The plot is original with non-stop action and the characters are raw and real and endearing. I HAD to read this in one sitting. The writing style and the quality and realism of the dialog just pulls you into the scene. I WILL read this one again!
Back with the Black Dawn boys! Dex is sweet, sexy, charming and downright funny with a side order of gallant! Kenna is sarcastic, sweet, snarky, self depreciating and wonderful mother and friend. I loved how they got together and the emails…I pretty much sputtered cola over my kindle a few times, they were hysterical.
Kenna has fears, phobias and a self esteem problem I can relate to. But when the danger rolls in she wants to be part of the solution, usually failing to heed warnings from Dex and the rest of the team. She’ll face her problems head on and cry about it later, especially when her family is targeted.
Dex will have to pull out the big guns to persuade the ever so skittish Kenna that he is in for the long haul…he’s not above making sure her son and mother are on his side though! Whilst Dex was determined he was in no way a stalker and you can clearly see the differences between him and a certain other interested party!
I loved trying to unravel who was the bad guy (failed again!) and checking in with all my favourite SEALS and their ladyloves was awesome. I’m sad to leave them behind and now have to sit and wait (very impatiently I might add) for the next book!
A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. This one is about Dex and Kenna and what they have gone through in life. Kenna gets caught up in a stalker like situation with Dex her hero to the rescue. Action to keep you turning the pages.
I felt this book could have been good but just fell short. Didn’t buy into the characters much and felt like the story was a bit to pat and sweet. Just not my style.
I love suspense books and this one did not disappoint! It keeps you guessing until the end.
Really enjoyed this book
Enjoyed the story.
Good story BUT A CLIFFHANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Didn’t care for all the sex. I didn’t think it was very tastefully done.
Loved the military references. Great read.
Enjoyed the story very much.
