Oh emmm geeee!!!
I couldn’t stop reading once I began…
There’s, murder, mayhem, spies, assininations and attempted assinations, a marriage of convenience, a husband who disappears after the wedding is done and …cats n dogs and squirrels and mice, oh my! Lol
My first read by Scarlett and although it’s at the tail end of the series I loved every second of this story! Now I want to know the ” not butler’s” story …and Carlisle’s …ahh hell, I want all of them!
I enjoyed Her Deceptive Duke. It’s a passionate, sizzling read and the banter between the two was engaging. It’s a bit of a second chance marriage as the groom left the bride on their wedding day for 6 months. I enjoyed both characters and their opposite personalities. I have not read a historical with a lead male quite like Kit. He was a swearing, arrogant, surly, rude, and callous Duke. He was wounded, betrayed, and miserable. I loved that Georgiana stood up to him, continued with her caring of strays, and helped him heal as well. She was full of goodness with a huge heart. She was a healer. He led a secret life, lied to her, abandoned her, and returned a cold and angry stranger who needed her help but would never ask for it. I did find it a bit repetitive in some parts, and my attention strayed a bit from the halfway to three-quarters way done, but then I was all in again. This was the first book I’ve read of Scarlett Scott and look forward to reading more.

Her Deceptive Duke is my first historical romance book by Scarlett Scott, but won’t be my last. Ms. Scott has delivered a well-written book and furnished it with outstanding characters. Georgiana was married for only hours before her husband left her. Kit returned to London with a bad attitude and a mangled leg after his spying led him into an ambush. Kit and Georgiana’s story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Scarlett Scott in the future. Her Deceptive Duke is book 4 of the Wicked Husbands Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I laughed and smirked so much during this story. Kit is hilarious. He is rude, crude, irascible and haughty and his dialog is some of the funniest I have read in a while. You might think this does not make for a very good hero…wrong, everyone around him ignores him and does not really give a damn which pisses him off even more. Georgie is almost as funny. She is steadfast and not a heroine who slinks back but instead she takes charge. And let us not forget the not-butler Ludlow and the dog that saves the day. The slow seduction of Kit and Georgie was a pleasure to read. These characters drive the story and made for a very enjoyable read.
I have read a few of Ms. Scott’s stories and now I am hooked. I am buying them up like candy.
Looking forward to Ludlow’s story.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
This was a great story – I fell in love with our heroine, Georgiana “Georgie”, Duchess of Leeds, & my heart broke when her husband left her before the wedding breakfast to go on a secret assignment in America & she didn’t hear from him for 6 months. She was so kind & loving & she wasn’t going to sit around & feel sorry for herself so she began rescuing stray & abandoned animals from London streets. Then Kit, the Duke of Leeds returns, wounded & close to death. She takes care of him, brings her Veterinarian in to heal him, even though he couldn’t be bothered to admit he has a wife he abandoned. This was a marriage of convenience – she needed to get away from her father & stepmother & he needed her money. Kit never wanted to be a duke & he dedicated his life to working as a spy, but then his older brother died – leaving him with a destitute dukedom & a title.
When he returns to London, wounded & his cover broken, he finds his townhouse overflowing with creatures – even his apartment has been taken over by the dogs & his wife can’t seem to stomach his existence (duh, can you blame her?). Can they find their way to love, to trust, & forgiveness?
This is a steamy romance with great a hero, heroine, non-butler & animals – I highly recommend this book & the whole series.
Yet another amazing story in the series
This is yet another brilliantly written story in the amazing series. The plot is full of hot emotional passages and suspense. The characters have a strength that is to be envied. This is a beautifully written book that will suit anybody who loves hot steamy historical romances that have plenty of suspense.
Georgiana, an American railroad heiress, is really a lonely farm girl from PA whose uncle leaves her a fortune. Ill equipped for society, her father and stepmother marry her off to a title – Christopher “Kit” Duke of Leeds, to save his bankrupt estates. As a second son, Kit never expected to inherit from his reckless brother and cold, cruel father. He found meaning for his life in joining the League, elite spies to save England from anarchy. Kit leaves Georgiana after the ceremony, not even staying for the wedding breakfast to travel to New York on his mission to route out the free Irish movement responsible for blowing up property and people. Once again the source of gossip, Georgiana finds purpose in caring for the stray animals of London – dogs, cats, mice, squirrels – which ever is in need. She turns Leeds House into a safe home for them. After months, her husband returns, wounded and near death. Kit’s whole world is turned asunder not only by his injury, but by his rejection from the League and branded a traitor. Determined to find his betrayer along with recuperating from a gunshot wound, he is foul mouthed and irritated when he realizes his wife has turned his townhouse into a home for animals. But Georgiana never loses her sweetness and dedication and love for her animal family – she fights Kit every step of the way, focused on healing his wound but never letting him forget his harsh and cruel treatment of her. She decides to seek a divorce when he is well, but the unexpected occurs when her cat Lady seeks Kit out as her bed. Although Georgiana knows Kit is very handsome, she suspects his leaving her is a complicated affair dealing with espionage. Thrown together because of his injury and her determination for him to survive, Georgiana realizes his bark has no bite – but it is a protection. The mystery of the “Judas”, stopping the ‘accidents’ to Georgiana and keeping the innocent from the deadly bombs, this story is a wonderful mixture of love between two people and duty to country – and the helpless creatures who look to us for kindness. Loved every encounter between Kit and the animals – and Georgiana!! Sensitive and touching tale of mystery and love!! Absolutely loved it!!!
Georgiana, Duchess of Leeds was abandoned by her husband Kit. Then one day he returns, but she has no idea where he was and that he works as a spy for the Crown!
This was an interest and romantic story line filled with action and romance!!
I love all of Scarlett Scott’s books!
Scarlett Scott always writes a beautiful strong willed woman, with a gorgeous masculine rogue Duke!
Loved this story, Georgiana is a married to a Duke, abandoned, so she takes in pets! Lol!! I love her.
Her gorgeous Duke comes back and the drama, mystery and action starts. Also, a strong heady attraction, that turns into steamy romance. I have read all her incredible Duke series and I loved them and highly recommend them.
Georgiana the Duchess of Leeds was abandoned by her husband on her wedding day. She knew he was only marrying her for her dowry but didn’t expect that.
Kit, the Duke of Leeds has returned from his mission for the Crown, badly wounded and suspected of treachery.
Our soft hearted heroine was an American farm girl until her rich uncle left her a fortune. Her passion is helping animals in need. The love they give her nearly makes up for what she has never had.
Our angry and arrogant hero was a second son. He has been ignored all his life until he joined the League in service to the Crown. There he found his place, now that has been taken from him.
How our heroine kept from smacking him, I don’t know. There is a lot of emotion, but also a lot if giggles in this great story. I loved the heroine, she is strong, brave and very loving. All without allowing herself to be downtrodden. Our hero just needed some sense knocked into him.
An action packed romance that grabbed me on the first page.
Great fun.
Good romance, good intrigue. Loved it. The only thing that turned me off a bit was the constant use of the f-word. I don’t mind using it on occasion, but felt it was used a little too much in this book.
Scarlett Scott has an amazing writing style. One minute I was laughing and the next sighing. I mean what would you do if your husband left you on your wedding day and does not return until he comes home wounded six months later and needing care? Georgianna, Duchess of Leeds finds happiness in caring for and rescuing animals from the streets of London. She has really filled the house with her strays and they worked so well in this story! She is so angry with her husband for leaving, and when he returns wounded, the truth comes out about his activities as a spy. Although their’s had been a marriage of convenience (he needed her money!) as they spend time together an attraction grows. This story is just so much fun! Georgie has animals everywhere and I love Lady Philomena Whiskers who attaches herself to Kit. There are so many great side characters including Ludlow, the not-butler who was really there to protect Georgie.
There is so much more I can say about this delightful book. But I will leave it to you to find out if these two find their happy ever after and if Kit survives the animals! Prepare to be turning the pages as fast as you can..
A menagerie of animals and his beautiful wife win over a wounded Duke with a bad attitude. Spies, assassins and bombs bring out his protective instincts when he finds out the real target is his wife. What a way to fall in love! Engrossing who done it to the end. (explicit sex)
Her Deceptive Duke by Scarlett Scott is book Four in the Wicked Husbands series. This is the story of Georgiana ‘Georgie’ and Kit. I have read the previous book (and loved it) but feel this is easily a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Kit was happy with his life as a spy but when he brother died he must take the family title of Duke of Leeds which he finds that he is in need of money to maintain everything. Georgiana is an American heiress who need to get away from her family. Kit and Georgianna marry knowing that it isn’t a love match but Kit ups and leaves shortly after the marriage on a ‘hunting trip’. This leads Georgianna to start caring for homeless animals in need. Kit ‘hunting trip’ was actually another spy assignment which took him away but months later returned hurt and his cover blown. Returning to his home injured and to find it has been overtaken by animals. Kit also finds his wife to be a strong person who isn’t falling for him and his ways. Georgiana works to take care of Kit and to get him back to better health while trying to keep her feelings to herself…but love always wins in the end.
Really enjoyed their story (animal lover her so I can see collecting those animals) and once I started reading I couldn’t put it down…loved it!
Georgiana, Duchess of Leeds, hasn’t seen her husband since he left her on their wedding day for an extended hunting expedition to America. She finds all the fulfilment she requires in caring for the stray cats and dogs of London’s streets.
Kit, Duke of Leeds, never wanted to be duke he was always the spare & he was content with his life as one of Her Majesty’s most dedicated spies until his brother’s unexpected demise left him forced to marry an American heiress to save the family estate from ruin. The day he married her, he left for a secret assignment in America. Now Kit returns seriously wounded and his cover ruined to a townhouse brimming with creatures and a wife who can’t bear the sight of him.
This book is the fourth in the series & could well be read on its own but if like me you love series then I’d recommend reading the whole series. Georgie & Kit really don’t like each other & barely spoke before their marriage & he then left before they’d even had the wedding breakfast. She copes well in his absence & on his return nurses him. Kit however must be the worst patient ever! I think I wouldn’t have been nearly as compassionate & caring as Georgie, until quite some way into the book I disliked Kit & began to wonder how on earth he’d redeem himself. Georgie is a strong woman who won’t be walked over & whilst she was attracted to Kit she certainly wasn’t blind to his faults. The pace of the story was very good & had me engrossed from the start. I loved Ludlow, Lady & Alice who all added to the story. A well written story of a marriage of convenience with spies, Fenians & a menagerie all thrown into the delightful mix.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
