Ames inherited money on his 21st birthday, but coming from a family that values a good work ethic he never really used his money. Instead he worked as a cop, until it was not enough for him any more. But he is struggling with the decision of what to do next. For the time being he is working part time on a ranch and in his free time renovates a house, so it can be flipped. When he has an accident while at home, he unexpectedly meets up with the woman who got away, as their timing had been wrong. But is the timing better now?
The story is part of a series of books that shows how people although part of a large family still can struggle with loneliness and how difficult it may be for the others to reach out to help and support.
This story is not just a love story, but also a story of people struggling with loneliness and depression. An interesting read, entertaining and well-written.

Sophia and Ames frustrated me. They really needed to talk and actually communicate. I loved them as a couple but their individual issues got in the way of their relationship. He ran hot and cold. When they paused their relationship was when I saw a turn in their relationship. Loved how they both admitted their part in the angst and I loved the grand gestures at the end.
This book had me swinging from one extreme to the other. I think I loved Ames and Sophia as individuals, but I’m not completely sold on the pair as a couple. They seemed to have more than their fair share of hurdles and disagreements to overcome. And, while I loved that they’re both able to recognize that they each played a personal role in those difficulties and were capable of asking for forgiveness for their parts, I thought that they took responsibility, and blamed the other, for the wrong things. However, I adored seeing the Hammond family together and knowing how all their stories end.

The fifth book in the Christmas at Whiskey Mountain Lodge series a well written story that held my interest until the end. I enjoyed reading Ames Hammond and Sophie Cooke’s second chance story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What can I say about a Liz Isaacson book that I haven’t already said? I love picking up one of her books, okay, downloading it to my Kindle, knowing I will find an entertaining story line, interesting characters, both old and new, humor, angst, romance and happily ever after or at least the promise of in the future. This book is the last book in the Hammond Brothers series and therefore a sad moment, but there is light at the end of the tunnel since there is the tease of Hunter growing older, also one of the things I love about Liz Isaacson books is that old friends show up in new books. Almost like a family reunion. I guess I just have to be patient, not my strong suit.
Where will Ames & Sophia 2nd Chance Relationship lead?
“Her Cowboy Billionaire Bad Boy” is Liz Isaacson’s final Novel in her Great, “Hammond Brothers” Western, Christian, Romance Series.
Sophia has spent her dating life, doing the changing in the relationships. She’s done doing that, because she loves her Job as Cook at Whiskey Mountain Lodge. But she added a 2nd Job this Summer, as a Nanny to 2 pre-school Boys.
Ames has resisted moving to Coral Canyon, WY, since his 1st brother, Colt, moved there. He and Sophia ended their relationship because of that fact. He’s the Best Man at his Twin’s upcoming marriage, in Coral Cyn. He’d see Sophia, because she was the Maid of Honor, at the wedding.
I Recommend This Engrossing, Inspirational, and Entertaining Novel. It reveals how Sophia & Ames get to their Forever ! You get: a surprise encounter, an Emergency Room visit, a Rescue Dog pack, a Police Dog Training Facility dream, Counseling, God, s, minds changed, , ,, and ! Watch for the “sugar addicted” 2 yr old , too.
I loved that LI gives us a “Hammond Brothers Epilogue” at the end of the Novel. It tied a nice bow, to the Series storylines!
Ames and Sophia started a relationship but his job as a policeman was in another state so that ended things when she would not move with him. When they run into each other again things have not changed she is still stubborn and he is still unsure where his life is going. Through family and prayers he begins to find his life’s plan and he hopes that Sophia will have the same vision that he does.
I have loved getting to know the Hammond brothers and the women who tamed them in this series. Each brother’s story is different yet they share the same values instilled in them by their Christian parents. In this book, Ames is the last bachelor brother and he chafes under his loneliness. While he and Sophia (a family friend) explore a relationship, Ames feels like the odd man out. Ultimately, he lets his friendship with Sophia fall by the wayside, only to reconnect with her several states away when Ames has a freak accident.
Ames is one of my favorite brothers because he second guesses every decision he makes. This is the basis of problems between him and Sophia. While Sophia has established roots in Coral Canyon, Ames is still searching for his place in the world.
This author writes stories with heart. Her characters are not perfect and each one struggles with everyday issues, just like most of us. Each character has to work through his or her specific problems before they can achieve the HEA ending. This novel ends with an epilogue for the 5 brothers which brought me to happy tears.
Ames is trying to find the job God wants him to do and the woman meant for him. But it is still a surprise to find Sophie where he didn’t expect to see her, and Ames wants a second chance. Can he open his heart and tell her how he feels, or will their relationship be paused forever?
I loved the dogs in this book and how Ames trained them to be part of his courtship.

The characters were complex and unique.
What a rollercoaster ride Ames and Sophia relationship was. Insecurity for both was a major issue, trust too. This book was not so much a romance but more a telling of how two people found what the needed. The personalities of the characters were complex and unique. Oh, and both are so stubborn. A bit of a spoiler I loved the proposal. I loved the piece and I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A really great series. I’ve enjoyed all the books and getting to know the Hammond brothers. I loved Ames and Sophia’s story and catching up with the others. A captivating read that left me with a smile.
I have really enjoyed all the books I have read by this author and especially like the ones that have the big family theme. I feel as if I know these people and this book is no exception. The times when the “Bad Boy” was not being nice to his girl or his family made me want to swat him. Guys should not make their women cry! I love the way the big family comes to the aid of whoever is hurting or when they can’t find their way – and how they take them to task when they aren’t being the men they should be. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.

Ames Hammond was a cop, but when he quit his job months ago, he was at loose ends not knowing what he wanted for himself. He got a job in Three Rivers, Texas, injures himself with a hammer and nail incident, and runs into his former girlfriend, Sophia Cooke, whom he had met when he visited his brother and later ghosted after he had returned to his job in Oklahoma.
Now Sophia doesn’t trust him, especially since his ghosting her had brought back her insecurities based on her history. When they try to start over, they are hesitant. Once again there are mistakes made and they back off. Can they learn to trust each other? Can they communicate more thoroughly to know they can risk another try? Can they build their confidence enough to go for a HEA? Or will they finally just give up and walk away?
It sounds like both of these characters had commitment issues, clouded by misunderstandings, and simply wrong place/wrong time bad luck. But if they can get themselves on the same page, there may be hope for them yet. Grab your copy and see if they can work this out successfully.
I’m so sad to see this series end, but it really was a great book. I loved getting so many perspectives and having some of the Walkers involved was amazing! They were my first Isaacson series so they’ll always hold a special place in my heart. And Ames and Sophia? I loved watching them work through their struggles and have to concentrate on their communication and figure out their priorities.

Not my usual read but a very good story. I could feel the angst Ames felt, also the hesitation that Sophia was experiencing. This was an inspirational story. I liked the way that Ames internalized much of his thoughts and the way Liz Isaacson wrote the story. Sophia had her own issues, but if only they got out of their own way. It all ended well with a very happy ending even with the pause. I did enjoy this book.

You will love this last book in the Christmas at Whiskey Mountain Lodge Series. Ames loves Sophia but he sometimes lets his head get in the way of his heart. The Hammond Brothers and their wives encourage them as they look for their happy ever after. I love the way that the characters in this series are more mature (older) and that they always turn to God to find their answers. They are not perfect, they have flaws, and Liz Isaacson weaves a great love story pulling them all together. Don’t miss this clean, inspiring romance from Liz Isaacson!
Ames and Sophia were together for about 3 weeks – but he does not want to move and neither does she and they don’t live in the same town – he’s a cop and she is a chef so no way to do a long distance romance – what a rough road ahead and then they meet in Texas – what are the odds – another MUST read for the Hammond Brothers!

I struggled with this book. I do have to say that I liked the way the family supported one another.
Ames was the last of the Hammond brothers to get married. I understood that he felt like he didn’t measure up to his other brothers. That didn’t seem to be his only issue, but I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what the other issues were for Ames.
Sophia had her fair share of issues also. Insecurity being a major issue. She ran hot and cold as much as Ames did. I couldn’t see how they were going to finally be on the same page enough to manage to have a relationship.
Trying to follow their relationship through the entire book just felt very choppy and uneven to me. I know people have difficulties in their relationships and everything is not always smooth sailing. Ames and Sophia’s relationship seemed to be a barrage of difficulties with very little smooth sailing. I could see no element of trust or security even after they admitted they loved on another.
This was an interesting read and had a series of emotional levels to try and figure out. Ames and Sophia managed to get their HEA, but this did not feel to me like it was a happy or romantic book. Luckily, they both seemed to have their faith to carry them through.

Liz cannot write a bad book in my opinion. I love these cowboy series. The Hammonds are all different personalities. Ames is a twin but very different from Cy. He quits the police force and moves to Texas to be a cowboy. He is fixing up a house when he nails his finger to the wall. He goes to the drug store and surprisingly finds Sophia there as well. He passes out and she takes him to the hospital. They had dated in the past in Wyoming. They really like each other, but find it hard to compromise. They start dating again but have their ups and downs. He moves back to Wyoming and decides to start a police dog training center. He has to go to North Carolina to take the training, but Sophia refuses to go back to NC. Will things go South? Can they keep the long distance relationship working? I received an ARC of this book and I am giving an honest review.
Ames is the twin brother of the “beast” Cy. Knowing that Cy has some mental health issues makes you wonder if Ames does also when he becomes very anxious. He seems to be at a crossroads in his life, quits the police department and drifts back to where his brothers live.Sophie is in charge of events and a couple meals at the lodge. She has a life path but she is lonely. They had a connection a year ago but he never called. He seems to have chosen a career but that will separate them while he trains. She is pretty adamant that she is not moving. This creates a rift in their fledgling relationship. Well written as are her other books. I felt that the problems facing them reflect real every day situations people have to navigate and learn to compromise
