I’m falling for my best friend’s dad.Moving back home was never my plan. Except here I am, struggling under my evil step-mom’s crushing thumb while I look for work. I feel just like Cinderella, but I never expected my best friend’s DAD to be my prince. He’s just as hot now as he was when I was a teen; maybe hotter. He’s also rich and powerful, and when he offers me a job working under him at his … under him at his company… I can’t say no. I don’t WANT to say no.
All our flirting is bad enough–we can’t get caught, my best friend would hate me–but then we go too far.
Hiding our relationship was one thing…
How the hell do I hide a baby?
Penny Wylder’s first full length novel! It’s all the fun and filth you expect, just a lot more of it! This story has a romantic core and a happily ever after that will make you melt.

Let me preface this by admitting that Penny Wylder is one of my must-read author’s – if she writes it, I’m reading it no questions asked. That means that my expectations are sort of high – I fully expect her to rock my world with her words. And I’m happy to say that Her Best Friend’s Dad did not disappoint! Lia and Beck were so cute and sweet together and I even loved the tension provided by the evil step mother. The story was told in alternating POV’s and I loved reading Beck’s side and his feelings for Lia. His feelings for her were so INTENSE and I was all for it! The sex scenes were hot (which is what one would come to expect having read any of Penny’s previous works), but the emotions were sweet, making it 5 star/re-reader in my book.
So Penny totally lived up to my high expectations and will remain a must read author for me!
This is a story about, two best friends, one is powerless to keep a promise, made long ago. You see, Tasha and Lia, have been friends since, they were, seven-years-old. Lia had fallen in love with, Tasha’s dad, when she lost her mom to cancer, and Beck is there to boost, her spirit. When she was falling apart, Tasha and Beck, are there when she needs them. By sixteen, Tasha could see that her best friend had a crush on, her dad. All she asked, is that she did not sleep, with him. Because by then, her mom had just, up and walked away from her marriage, and Tasha.
After high school, Lia goes away to college to an art school. She is an amazing artist. During this time, Beck realizes that he is missing, Lia way more than he ever, should be. But, when she doesn’t come back after college, and opens her gallery, making a name for herself, he knows he lost, for sure. When the economy takes a turn for the worse, Lia needs to return home. Unfortunately, for her, while she was in college, her dad remarried her step-monster, Jean.
Jean is an evil, Barbie, on steroids. She takes every opportunity to tell, Lia she’s a worthless, lazy slug, who needs a job to, repay the loan her father gave her for her gallery, and move out of their place. Wow! Did she not think, Lia thought of that already? Because believe me she truly did. So, Jean takes it upon herself to, ask her sexy boss to, give Lia a job as, his secretary. Might that be the same sexy boss that she just kissed in his garage at her best friend’s house? Yup! Beck makes his move he is tired of waiting.
This may seem weird on the surface but it’s not. He never noticed her until she was older and then she was off to college. She, however, was in love with him much longer. It is a sweet love story with a step-monster thrown in for excitement. I really enjoyed this book.
BECK…what a guy
Loved Lia and Beck’s romance and happily ever after. There was a little bit of angst with Lia’s stepmom and keeping things from Lia’s best friend and Beck’s daughter, but it worked out well. Great characters and story. Must read!
As the World Turns meets Dynasty, with a dash of Disney worthy Wicked Stepmother mixed in…
“Her Dad’s Best Friend” by Penny Wylder, is the story of Beck and Lia. Beck being, a forty-something business mogul and CEO of his namesake company. A man who was taken for granted and treated badly by his first wife, and as a result chosen a solitary life of work and raising his daughter Tasha. And Lia, Tasha’s best friend. A friend who has grown up under the shadow of loss and hardships. Now a twenty-two year old woman returning home after a downturn in the economy wipes out the art gallery she worked diligently to build. However, returning to her childhood home not only brings closer the harsh sting of failure, but also brings her back, face-to-face, with her longtime crush, Beck. The man she swore an oath to best friend Tasha she would never pursue.
What follows is a story worthy of a soap opera. One brimming with angst, longing, sorrow, and deep in the pit of your stomach uncertainty. It is a tale that brilliantly illustrates, as only Wylder can, how the heart often wants what it wants despite the “correctness” of it all. And how sometimes, the most fiercest of loves come from unexpected places and between unexpected people.
It is also an intriguing tale about what happens when people aren’t who they appear to be, and the damage that can result.
And, as if the above wasn’t enough action to keep you glued to each and every page. It is also an interesting tale about loyalty, and how sometimes, promises are made to be broken. Broken, not because the person doing the breaking is bad or dishonest, but rather because it wasn’t something that, despite the original intent, was within the individual’s power to actual control.
It is a whirlwind of a story. One that in true Wylder fashion thrusts you forward at almost break neck speed into a magnetic atmosphere of angst, friendship, almost feral levels of attraction, and revenge tainted choices. All of which lead the characters throughout scrambling for emotional purchase.
It is a book that explodes with a chemistry so compelling I could have easily read another twenty chapters about the entire character landscape housed within this tiny but might story. And despite a series of mildly distracting typos sprinkled throughout the book, it remains gorgeously affecting overall.
Another wonderful read written by a wonderful author!
I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED this book!!! I can add Beck to my list of forever favorite book boyfriends! OMG he is just swoon-worthy and so sexy! Like why don’t any of my friends have a single Dad like that?! LOL!
Lia is back home in a less than perfect situation due to losing her art studio and falling on hard times thanks to the economy. Her bestie, Tasha, is so glad to have her back home though, they are attached at the hip. Lia has a “step Monster” Jean that she battles with almost daily but at least her Dad is there for her. The one good thing about being home and seeing her bestie on a regular basis? Well, it’s a bit of a bad thing too, is seeing Tasha’s dad, Beck. He has forever been “the one” for Lia and despite making a promise to Tasha that she would never get it on with her Dad, temptation is overflowing now that she’s old enough and back home. Once Beck hires her as his personal assistant things really heat up and there’s no turning back.
Like I said, I LOVED this book, I couldn’t put it down and I found myself thinking about it when I wasn’t able to sit down and read it. The characters are very nicely developed and I loved that there was a backstory for them but that it didn’t take over the main characters of Lia and Beck. Beck … oh good Lord, instant book boyfriend, like will forever be on my list of my top ones! I kept picturing a David Gandy look but once I saw photos of Franggy with platinum grey hair, yup, totally became my Beck. I really loved Lia – a very strong independent girl who despite all the things that could set her back, she never lets them. Tasha is just adorable and the best girl friend we all have in our lives. I loved her little backstory with her boyfriend Chris too.
I’m quickly becoming a diehard fan of Penny’s books! I can’t wait to read more!
Her first love and his last. What do you do when you love your best friends father? He was the one she dreamed of marrying since she was a little girl. He watched her grow up and then she moved away for school. She’s back now and the chemistry is off the charts.
I loved very minute of this book. It was so good that I didn’t want it to end. Definitely a page turner all the way to the end. Read it, you won’t be disappointed!
Not the best read. Character development is definitely lacking.
Expected to not like this one based on premise, but quickly found myself rooting for them.
Entertaining, but predictable
Cute story, a quick and easy beach read.
too unrealistic
Love this book
