Not quite sure what I think of this second book in the Sorenson Family series. Was it engaging? Yeesss, but I couldn’t get into the characters like I did Kate and Dominic (first book). Was it entertaining? Certainly. Did I roll my eyes often? Definitely.
Peyton Vaughn is the only child of Emily The Battle Axe Vaughn and is only weeks away from walking down the aisle in what will be her mother’s every wedding fantasy come true. Peyton? She’s along for the ride.
Cruz doesn’t know how he gets himself into these things. His brother and future sister-in-law have charged him with getting Kate’s BFF, Peyton, to their wedding on time and without doing anything crazy. At the last minute, he was able to get on the same flight as Peyton. He’d planned on going a day earlier but actually, this is better. He was able to get a few more things together for the proposal he is pitching to Dick Eastman for a construction job he covets for Sorenson Construction. If he can get this contract, Sorenson Construction will be a top rated company in the US.
There’s always a glitch. Right? So, Peyton just happens to be Brad Eastman’s fiance. Yeah, Dick Eastman’s son. Brad and Cruz have a history and it’s not a good one. Cruz and Peyton also have a history albeit a short one. Now, they’ll be spending hours in a car driving through Mexico. What could possibly go wrong?
There are times when this story becomes absurd, but it is entertaining!
Payton Vaughn is in need of a little escape from reality, she is really looking forward to her little getaway to Puerto Vallarta for her friend Kate’s wedding. This trip is not just an opportunity for some fun in the sun, but also a chance to escape the clutches of her overbearing mother. Her mother has certain expectations for her, and how she should live her life, including choosing the perfect mate for her daughter to marry. And while her fiance may look good on paper, he is actually a two time cheating dog that doesn’t deserve Payton. When her fiance bails on their trip for work, and her flight is cancelled, Payton is about to bail on the trip all together. That is until her best friend Kate intervenes, and lines up a alternate travel plan for her, a road trip with Kate’s brother-in-law Cruz. Payton isn’t looking forward to a long car ride with Cruz, but she gives in and does it for the sake of friendship…
Cruz Sorensen begrudgingly postpones his trip for a day, so that Payton can ride along with him to the wedding destination. He is not real thrilled about being trapped in the car with her and has reservations about it from the very beginning, but gives in and does it for the sake of family.
When these two sworn enemies decide sharing a few drinks together may loosen up this tense situation and possibly make things for them a little bearable for them, it ends up going a little better than they thought…especially when they wake up married to one another the next morning. Now they must decide if they can make a go of this marriage, or chalk it up to very bad drunken mistake..
This was my first encounter with this author’s work and I have to say that I enjoyed it, so much so, I plan to read more of her books in the very near future. This story was fun and very entertaining, and had me smiling and laughing the whole way through! Most definitely a refreshing change of pace for me, and good NetGalley find!
