In the tradition of Gone Girl and Behind Closed Doors comes a gripping, twisted, furiously clever read that demands your attention, and keeps you guessing until the very end. For fans of the anti-heroine and stories told in unorthodox ways, Her delivers us the perfect dark and provocative villain. The only question–who is it? “After four, I quit counting. What’s the point if you know it isn’t … counting. What’s the point if you know it isn’t going to stop?”
Sadie is jealous. Why wouldn’t she be? Her life is falling apart. Meanwhile, her new neighbor is everything she is not.
Ann is perfect–the kind of woman everyone loves to hate–and a best friend to die for. She hosts over-the-top dinner parties, takes parenting to an entirely different level, and makes ambition look sexy as hell.
Sadie learns quick: the best way to cure jealousy is to befriend it. She also learns there’s more to her new friend than meets the eye. She’s patient, she’s kind, and possibly a serial killer.
It isn’t until Ann’s proclivities hit a little too close to home that Sadie has to ask herself how much she’s willing to overlook in the name of getting what she wants.
Exquisitely paced, Her is an unnerving and electrifying psychological thriller about jealousy, passion, and the dangerous places desire can take you. Full of enough tension and twists to make even the most seasoned suspense reader break out in a cold sweat, it keeps you guessing until the very last page.

Holy crap, what did I just read? Her by Britney King is an addictive and dark psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down!
Sadie is a young woman who is struggling with life. Her husband recently moved out and she is tackling anxiety and other mental health issues. On her down time, Sadie watches her neighbour Ann. In many ways Sadie is jealous of Ann, so she decides to befriend her. Ann is successful and beautiful, everything Sadie isn’t. The two become very close and Ann takes Sadie under her wing. As their relationship deepens, Sadie begins to wonder if there’s more than meets the eye with Ann. Just how far is Ann willing to go to get what she wants, and what will the costs be? Slowly Sadie grasps the darker side of Ann and a thrilling and twisted story unravels with lies, jealously, betrayal and deceit.
Where has Britney King been my whole life? How am I now only realising what a phenomenal thriller writer she is? This book was both equally disturbing and hilarious at parts! King had me guessing all the way to the very end of this book, and I certainly didn’t see that ending coming.
I really enjoyed the characters too. I found Ann to be ridiculous and nuts, I sat there wondering why would Sadie want to be friends with someone like her. I was second guessing Sadie throughout the entire book too! While the two women had different names, I honestly thought Ann was a split personality of Sadie — or even the serial killer Sadie assumed she might be.
I loved that this book was told through two different perspectives, Sadie and ‘Her’. While reading I really didn’t know who the ‘her’ was. While I kept having this tug-of-war about who I thought it was, I then was questioning myself too! This really made me engage with the book too! Just when I thought I had it nailed down, King through me a new curve ball!
If you’re looking for a twisty and thrilling book this summer that will have you guessing the while time, look no further than Her by Britney King. From the complex characters to the plot, even the uncomfortable feeling I got while reading this, it certainly gets into your head! I highly recommend this book — you won’t regret it!
Thank you to Britney King for an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review. I can’t wait to read your new book Room 553!

Wow this is a Fantastic Thriller. It follows to main Characters. Sadie loves the Author Ann. And Ann has moved into Sadies neck of the woods. Sadie gets invited to Anns, then she starts learning about the other side of Ann. This read will have you on the edge of your seat. Wondering whats gonna happen next. And lots of twists and turns. The Author really brings these characters out, and does a great job at showing the reader on how these characters evolve. If you love Dark Thrillers this is definitely the one for you.

This is the first book I’ve read by Britney King. This was a fast, engrossing read that made my head spin a bit. I didn’t find any of the characters likeable but they were absolutely interesting enough to keep me turning the pages.
Her is twisted in ways I didn’t see coming at all which I always appreciate in a book. That ending – wow!
Definitely recommend for readers who enjoy twisted, dark, and sick psychological thrillers.
Britney King loves to deliver a twisted, psychological thriller that makes it almost impossible to put down. Her is another fantastic addition to my reading list and I can hardly wait for more.
The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off. Joe Klaus
With an opening like that, I grit my teeth and clench my hands tightly around my ereader, anticipating another fabulous psychological thriller from Britney King…and I was not disappointed.
When I read the Prologue, I thought, “I wonder what she is setting me up for.”
Britney King is very creative when it comes to her villains. Many times she has me rooting for them, making me love them and wanting things to work out for them.
Be careful thinking the grass is greener on the other side. It may be infested with evil.
Sadie…she is finding out that once you are in, you are never out. Now, how can I turn my back on her. I am bopping along, at a steady pace, watching her be manipulated, twisted, and perverted into keeping some nefarious secrets.
Secrets, betrayal…how can she live like that?
Britney King has a way of taking a normal neighborhood and with her casual air creates a location of danger and death. Somehow her imagination comes up with way of surprising me, jerking me out of an I know this attitude.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Her by Britney King.

Mind-blowing, or maybe that should be mind-bending because this author certainly knows how to mess with your mind. Her is so very dark and has an overall ominous feel from the very first page, and I absolutely couldn’t put it down. With Sadie and Ann, King takes the idea of BFF’s and twists it beyond recognition. So much so that I often wondered just which one was really in control. As if this pair doesn’t create enough of a sinister vibe, we get some truly brilliant and sometimes gruesome twists to keep us on our toes. Everything is definitely not as it seems, and just when you think you have it figured out, you don’t. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by Britney King, but I do believe this one is her best work to date. She’s certainly set the bar high for whatever comes next, and I for one will be impatiently waiting to see what her imagination can dream up for us next.
Every time I see that Britney King has a new book coming out I get SO excited because I know I am in for a cracking good read. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one, and it did not disappoint. Miz King’s storytelling ability has a way of luring a reader in and holding them captive page after page. It was well written and well paced. The plot was engaging. Seductive. Twisted. Gritty. The characters were intriguing. Unlikable. Corrupt. Complex, and the ending was shocking and unexpected. I loved every minute.
This book pulled me in at the first page and was a fast read for me because I wanted to see what would happen next. This story was intriguing, twisted, surprising, and at many times jaw dropping. The ending was unexpected and totally shocked me. A gripping read!
“Ann knows this, so I know this.”
~Sadie
Creepy, sexy and unpredictable. Three things I’ve loved about every Britney King novel I’d read to date—this one certainly hit those marks and did not disappoint!
Narrated with multiple character perspectives, Her is A wonderfully engrossing read filled with mind games, devotion and jealousy.
Another fabulous Britney King read!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I can’t wait to read more. I highly recommend this chilling page turner.
I really enjoy how Britney king starts her books. It’s different from other books and pulls me in right away. The first thing to get my attention was the book cover.
The characters kept me engaged and had me guessing what was going on and who was to blame for what. And then that ending was unexpected to say the least.
I did have some difficulty in keeping 1 of the narrators straight but by the end of the book, I had it figured out, not sure if I missed something early on or why I was confused. Overall I’m excited to read what this author comes up with next.
Favorite Quotes:
I wish someone had told me: worry is a waste of time. The real troubles of your life will be things that never even bothered to cross your mind.
Ann says a lot of things. She believes in survival of the fittest, and she wants everyone else to believe in it too. But there are too many stupid people in this world for me to embrace that notion wholeheartedly.
I only wish someone had told me that making friends as an adult isn’t any easier than it is as a kid. It’s worse. You have all of those hardened beliefs and insecurities to contend with. And those at the top? They like to stay there.
Her emotions have hairpin turns.
My Review:
A plethora of adjectives and adverbs came to mind as I raced through Britney King’s Her, but I have yet to find adequate words to encapsulate my thoughts. I am stunned and may be in shock as I’ve never read anything like this. Her was deviously clever, brilliantly crafted, disturbing, surreal, unsettling, and simply riveting to say the least. It was frighteningly brilliant and kept me on edge, off balance, and highly intrigued throughout. I could never get my footing with these intense and alluring sociopaths; I was smirking at their cleverly snarky observations and inner musings one minute and reeling from their heinously twisted plotting and rationalizations in the next. The ingeniously penned storylines were completely unpredictable and enthrallingly contrived, obviously dark magic had to have been invoked. At 85% in, my stomach and jaw both dropped and I couldn’t seem to get enough oxygen into my lungs. Britney King is a wickedly talented wordsmith and a cunning mastermind, and while I greatly admire her mad skills, I would definitely think twice about living in her neighborhood.
I found the beginning to be very interesting. Someone is sharing their thoughts but we’re not exactly sure who it is. Could it be Sadie? Could it be Ann? Sadie shares a lot of what’s she’s thinking with us. We really get to know her. Ann is something of a puzzle. She seems to be like a maestro. She likes to direct those around her. She also likes to orchestrate things.
I like to work on puzzles but this one is like no other. You have to keep reading to see if you can figure things out but then something else comes up and I’m scratching my head trying to figure out where this author is going. Sadie seemed to want the reader to know what she’s thinking and doing. As well as how she interacts with others. She seems to put a lot of importance on what others think of her. Ann is more closed off. We learn about her from Sadie’s interpretations.
Love and romance have no place in this story. If you like a story that challenges your mind than you’re going to enjoy this one. You have to have patience. Only you can decide if you’re willing to take your time in reading a book where mind games can get a little frustrating. It may even have you wondering how well you know your neighbors. And even Sadie admits to that. I applaud the author because as things started to unfold, as I was getting toward the end, I found that I was way off base. That’s a good thing because you never want to figure things out early and I’m terrible with solving mysteries anyway. But it left me saying one word, “Wow!” And I’m also left wanting more by Ms. King.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This novel is an exceptional psychological thriller, masterfully written, carefully plotted and brilliantly paced. In her own unique style, Ms. King has created characters so dark and a storyline so breathtakingly twisting that you will only think you have it “figured out”. I could not out this one down until I finished this rollercoaster ride. If you haven’t read anything by this author before, make sure HER is one you read. And then read everything else she has written. She is that brilliant!
Britney King writes eerily calm. Like how can she be writing about murder or attempting murder from a killer’s mind so calmly. But she does it, with a fierce efficiency that lulls you into complicity. King is perfect at playing with the mind… she plays with your thoughts and has you questioning everything you think you understand. However, you may have a part of the story correct but not the entire story. King keeps her cards close to her chest. King’s writing is so smooth… it’s a bit dry but in a way. She’s seriously slowly builds up the suspense and tension. I just couldn’t stop reading.
I love how the “bad guy” talks to us. She tells us the story, if you will, like we’re right next to her chatting about her favorite chicken recipe. King is insanely talented this way… you know what you are reading, perhaps not how the story will play out, but you have the gist of it. Sadie is a mess, she reminds me a bit of the main character in The Girl in the Train, without the booze.
Miss King has done some of her best work with Her. The storyline is dark and addictive, so consuming. I was shocked with how so much of the story played out. If you’re looking for a lighter read that goes down quick and easy… well, this is not it!! It deserves the mention of trigger warnings for people who are on the cusp. I just love how King writes!! Can’t wait for more!!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Nightmarish neighbors!
Creepy and chills-up-the-spine disturbing! This neighborhood domestic suspense thriller was very close to too much for me – too twisted, too dark, too intimate, too devious – but it sure had a chokehold on my attention from beginning to end! Britney King has written another mind-game-filled psychological thriller!
Woah! This book is darker than I expected, but I really enjoyed it! Britney King is a great writer. Hands down. Whatever she writes I will read it. I fell in love with her novels when I read The Social Affair about a year and a half ago and I haven’t been able to STOP devouring them since. She has a knack for bringing out the worst in her characters and showing her readers all their dirty, ugly, faults. Not many authors can successfully do this while maintaining readers attention but she can. Not only that, she can write dark thrillers better than many. I don’t think I have read anything quite like hers with any other story. She’s got an original batch of books and she gives her readers a good mindfuck while they are reading. I honestly love this. If you are looking for a twisted read with an even twistier climax, I recommend HER. If you are easily uncomfortable with murder and things like that (I mean I think most people are, but this is fiction) then I wouldn’t recommend it to you. I wasn’t expecting the ending- it made my stomach churn a little bit- but I like how the author ended it with a huge BANG. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!
I won’t say anything about the plot because it would ruin the story for readers but it will mess with your mind – especially when you get closer to the end. But I will say that this is a dark psychological thriller with narrators who you won’t love, but will appreciate for their originality and flaws. If you have read the New Hope series (The Social Affair, The Replacement Wife, and Speak of the Devil) you will find this is similar in story line. I’m pretty such it’s also mentioned quite a few times in this one.
Britney King
Her was not what I expected!
Although to he honest I’m not sure what I expected as this was a first time read from this author.
Never judge a book by its cover is never more true then in this telling of two woman who are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
For all intense and purposes Ann is a woman we would all like to be. Beautiful, successful, happily married. You know the perfect life.
Sadie on the other hand is average. Husband, job, life in suburbia. Going about her seemingly otherwise uneventful life.
But what we see on the outside isn’t always the real story…….
The story was well written with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. There are a few things I would have liked more explanation about. But to avoid spoilers won’t pose those questions here.
I do read alot of psychological thrillers, so while I was looking for one thing I got another. I’m still not certain if that’s a good thing or not
WOW!! This was one of the most scariest, intense, twisted roller coaster ride that kept me on the edge of my seat. The main characters are Sadie & Ann. Sadie, married mom, who wants more. Things really turn out dark & twisted. There are many twists and turns that will keep you turning those pages to the most surprising end ! I read this book as an arc program.
Britney King is a new to me author and Her is an exceptional book.
This psychological thriller keeps the reader glued to the book, not wanting to put it down. The characters seem real and most of the time very like able. You cannot hate these characters because Britney makes you see inside their heads and therefore all the bad, horrific things they do become acceptable from their point of view.
This book is highly recommended!
Sadie’s husband has left her. Ann moves into the neighborhood and they become friends.A lot of emotions are displayed through the characters that are developed quite well. This is one thriller that kept me guessing what will happen next. I never expected the surprise ending. What a thrill ride.
