“Intelligently crafted horror-thriller … Absolutely engrossing and left me wanting more.” Simon Clark, bestselling horror authorA third of the human population has been lost. The wars came, and they created a monster. The Pale, a subhuman, vampire-like drone. Then they lost control. In the thirty years that followed, humankind sought to rebuild itself within the walls of New Oxford. But society … rebuild itself within the walls of New Oxford.
But society had become fractured – humans now lived incongruously among Genetic Others, themselves a group of many subspecies.
The most dangerous of them all: the vampires.
Somehow, these groups have managed a peaceful co-existence under the controlling government influence of the Cabal. But that is all about to change…
When Phoebe Harkness receives a phone call in the middle of the night, things take a turn to the horrifying. Her supervisor at Blue Lab One, a high-security research facility, has gone missing.
And all that is left behind: her teeth.
Dr Harkness now finds herself in a race against time to stop further bloodshed and uncover the mystery behind the victims of this horrific crime. She must navigate the dark underworld of the vampire community, without becoming someone’s prey herself…
But she is not alone – on her side, against all odds, is another vampire. Together they must fight for answers before it’s too late…
Hell’s Teeth is the gripping first instalment of the urban gothic Phoebe Harkness series. It follows the young doctor as she stalks through the corrupt dystopia of New Oxford.
Praise for Hell’s Teeth:
“Hell’s Teeth is a compelling, original story which kept me eagerly reading to the last page.” Innate Plethora, L. K. Smith

James Fahy lives in the North of England, close to wild moors and adjacent to a haunted wind farm, with his extremely patient and long-suffering family and a very old cat named Gargoyle. When the cat dies, James plans to buy a raven and name it Quoth. He is the author of the Changeling fantasy series, following the adventures of Robin, a seemingly unremarkable boy who is swept up into a war between our world, and the Netherworlde, a shadowy realm which lies beyond our own. In addition to fantasy, James also writes Science Fiction, Urban Gothic and Steampunk, for people old enough to know better.more
The anatomy of a book is character and character development, plot/story flow and world building and I must say that this author has aced all three.
It’s the characters who draw you into the story and in this book it was the first paragraph.
Dr. Harkness is badass with a snarky and sarcastic attitude that somehow attracts trouble. I love the way her brain works, her inner voice and how she manages not to verbalize those thoughts out loud. Giff, her lab assistant is a geeky lovable teddy bear. Servant Veronica Cloves is a real piece of work with a horrendous sense of style and a knack for surviving. Harkness describes her as Cruella DeVil on acid. Ahhh, Allesandro, who is charming, elegant, witty, smart and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. There is an unlikely chemistry between Harkness and this vampire…like playing with fire.
Character and character development is Fahy’s forte along with his wit and humor. It is this cast of unlikely characters who spun the web and caught this reader totally unawares and found herself immersed in the story. There was no way out but to read until the very last page was turned.
Vampire stories are not my usual reading fare; but I took the leap, opened the book and I’m glad I did. I’ve been able to accept that vampires are not all scary and evil…maybe just some kind of “normal” with just a bit of a twist. Fahy has given literary diversity a whole new complexion and I love it. Hell’s Teeth is a stand alone mystery thriller with a bite. I will be back for more. Count on it.
You guys! This book was SO good!! The opening chapter was brilliant – hooked me right in – and kept me that way right through. I found it surprisingly refreshing to read a vampire story where romance wasn’t the central theme. Phoebe Harkness is witty, strong and extremely likeable. Fast moving plot, and fantastic world-building. Very impressed, I’m excited to read more from this author.
Fantastically written novel about the dastardly deeds of humans and the revenge sought by those impacted the most. The protagonist, Dr. Harkness altogether witty, bold and sassy in her pursuit for the truth, as she’s forced on a whirlwind perilous race through the vampire and GO worlds. I thoroughly enjoyed the references to well-known characters and movies, as well as the fast paced reading. Fahy has a unique style in his writing that flows smoothly and rolls on the tip of your tongue. I often found my hands splayed across my face, but in the next moment my jaws ached from the laughter. Dr. Phoebe Harkness is a strong female character, she cow-tails to none and I immediately felt a connection to her. Suspenseful scenes, wise, irritatingly intelligent vampires, married with techie science engineering finesse, like Dr. Kay Scarpetta – it held my interest throughout. The descriptive gore will suffice those eager for it, as I pursed my lips and clenched my stomach. I guess that’s what happens when vampires and others seeking to end the world, meet competent fierce characters like Felicity Smoak of “Arrow” in Dr. Phoebe Harkness!

Phew, that was a wild ride!
I love how one’s perceptions are subtly tested with this book.
The vampires are not your trapped in a time warp type. They live in a dystopian future alongside humans in walled cities. The Pale are the major threat, not the “Genetic Others”.
The main character, Phoebe Harkness, is a scientist trying to correct the mistakes of the past. Extremely clever yet naive but full of snark – love her!
She has much to learn, and it’s all done the hard way as she’s dragged from one horrific situation to another through no fault of her own.
All the characters are well-developed and leap off the page to pull you into this gripping story.
There’s plenty of other-worldly beings involved – not always as they first appear to be.
It’s gruesome, scary and exciting! A unique take on vampires.
