As usual, great story from Lisa Klepas!
Hello Stranger was an incredibly entertaining story with a nice amount of drama, an awesome mix of cloak and dagger involved, and really wonderful characters. I had a great time reading it!
Lisa Kleypas has done it again! I enjoyed every page of this book with its original characters, page turning plot and unexpected ending. This heroine kept surprising me.
Thoroughly enjoyed Garrett and Ethan’s story set against a backdrop of political unrest. Some beautiful poetic writing to be read, incredibly romantic dialogue, and some sizzling intimate scenes.
“Everything about Garrett Gibson was…delicious….She was sunlight and steel, spun into a substance he’d never encountered before.”
Garrett Gibson is woman with a man’s name and man’s job. She’s avant-garde, independent, smart, resourceful, and has nerves of steel. She has no time for a relationship but every time she keeps encountering the shady Ethan Ransom, the more she realises that she can take pleasure where she wants it…just like a man.
“He was famished for her, had worshipped and wanted her for so long, but he’d never expected to have her in his arms.”
Ethan Ransom is a man with a shady job. He is mysterious, intriguing, and is more than taken with the beautiful female doctor. However, he knows that he should steer clear of her – for his own good, as well as hers. Unfortunately, when his occupation puts her in the cross hairs of his enemy, he is willing to do anything to keep her safe.
This was such a good read. Garrett and Ethan were gorgeous together. I absolutely adored how romantic Ethan was. He had all the words! The sexual tension between them was thrilling and I was riveted by the two of them. Garrett is a woman before her time – she’s forward-thinking and very modern for the era – almost scandalously so. I loved Ethan’s protectiveness and his seeming omnipresence in Garrett’s life. He had something of a chip on his shoulder but it tickled me the way West Ravenel won him over. LOL (I can’t wait for West’s book!). Overall, a great read and addition to this series.
This entire series is one of my favorite’s. I had wanted for these two to get together since they were introduced in the first book. Garrett Gibson is the only female surgeon in England. She’s smart, witty and can defend herself physically. Ethan, who is a Ravenel by-blow is probably one of the few men who appreciates everything about her, but believes she is way too far above him and his work would also endanger her. Getting their HEA is going to take everything they have, but they are perfect for each other.
The characters were different: a female doctor. A slow read overall. Not Lisa’s best work.
I loved HELLO STRANGER
Beautifully writer characters that are worth loving. I loved the author’s writing as much as I loved her characters
Loved this one!
I love good and long series with lot of characters, family, friends ….
Very well done !
Lisa Kleypas is the queen of historical romance and I love these characters so much! Beautiful!
Every Lisa Kleypas book deserves 5 stars and this one is no exception. Well developed characters and nicely paced action put this book in front of most other romances.
This was the first book I had ever read by this author. I highly recommend any of her books. They were amazing; I would find myself reading till 12 am without even realizing it.
this was very good book.
Lisa Kleypas continues to deliver unusual but extremely likable main characters who may be different than main stream society but have a real-ness that readers can relate to and root for. Dr. Garrett Gibson is the first female physician in England. She works for my favorite Welsh department store owner Rhys Winterbourne and has doctored some of our past heroines, so is a familiar sideline character.
In Hello Stranger, Garrett gets rocked out of her steady clinical world when Ethan Ransom, ex-Scotland Yard investigator, steps in to help her fight some men hassling her as she’s walking home through a bad neighborhood after work. His offer to help train her in self defense puts them at close quarters and of course their chemistry sizzles. However, Ethan is in the middle of an investigation and doesn’t want to endanger Garrett so tries to leave her be, but fate keeps throwing her in his path. I love how this authors heroines are unusual for their time. Always smart and in this instance an educated doctor, not your typical society miss. Garrett is a bit stoic and cool, not used to the more passionate emotions but she is so well balanced by Ethan! He has got to be the most romantic historical male I’ve read in quite a long while. As it turns out, he has Irish roots and I don’t know if the author was trying to portray his Irish-ness with a poetic side, but wow. I’m married to an Irishman and I wish he spoke so poetically to me about his feelings! Ethan was a man’s man, yet was definitely not afraid of showing how he felt. If I were Garrett, he would’ve rocked my world too. This was another fun novel by Lisa Kleypas. Was it my favorite of hers? No. Though I did enjoy these characters and learning about the difficulties Garrett had as a female doctor in a man’s world, even if learning about it in a historical romance, was eye opening. I can’t wait for West Ravenels book. He was very present in Hello Stranger and he was hilarious! His romance is going to be worth the wait.
This book was so much better than I expected, the main characters were a great couple and had a lot of chemistry.
Garrett is an independent and really talented doctor, she is a woman and therefore she’s one of a kind since the story develops a lot of years ago.
On the other hand Ethan is a mysterious, sexy man, working for the wrong people.
Garrett wants everything he has to offer, but Ethan doesn’t believe he is good enough for her, especially because he is in great danger for knowing something that could change many things….
So if you enjoy romance set in other times, you should give this a try.
What an engaging, original story. Garret was A-MAY-ZING!!
You can never go wrong with Lisa Kleypas. Anxiously awaiting the next in the series…..
I should’ve reviewed Hello Stranger long before now. I read it before release, totally fell in love with it and even met Lisa Kleypas for the first time on release day. This book was absolutely delightful — everything I love about historical romance wrapped into one book. Please don’t take my lack of a review before now as a sign I didn’t enjoy the book.
I loved Garrett from the first time I met her, so I was thrilled to get her story. What a woman! I love how many unique heroines there are in historical romance and, to be honest, Lisa’s are always some of my favorites. A woman doctor back in the 1870s? Who’d have thunk it? Ransom was so swoony I didn’t know what to do with myself. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about him as a match for Garrett, but it worked so well. They balanced each other out perfectly.
I loved every little thing about Hello Stranger. The characters, the slow burn romance, the feels and swoons. It was an absolute gem. Now, I’ll be (im)patiently waiting for West to get his own book and HEA.
FAVORITE QUOTES
“As you said, Doctor… there’s a part of every man that’s untamed and unsubdued.”
“Even a high-minded woman can appreciate a fine pair of… what did you call them? Quadriceps?”
“I wouldn’t be nice. I’d bring you to the edge of wanting, and keep you there ’til you were cursing and screaming your pleasure for all the neighbors to hear. And after I’d brought you to a long, hard come, I might turn you over my knee for being such a noisy lass. Is that what you want? To spend all night in bed with a big, mean bastard?”
“I’d love you night and day, if I could. There’d be no limits for us. No shame. You and me, in the dark… that’s all I’ve ever wanted.”
“I prefer you to everything.”
I never can hate Lisa, or her stories. I can’t wait to continue with these series.
I love almost anything by Lisa Kleypas! This one about a female doctor in historical England had a good storyline and I loved learning about medical treatments from that time.
I’ve read all of lisa klepas books. U can trust they will always be enjoyable.
