So starting, I will be upfront and say I was very confused when I realized that this book would be about Maliki and Nyx. Especially considering I didn’t feel like Addy and Zane’s “romance” had any closure at the end of Degenerates. Even after finishing this book I don’t feel like the romance aspect of their story felt complete. I found this especially annoying because there was discord going on between them at several points in this book, and we get no insight into what was causing it. My other disappointment was the OW stuff. One of the main reasons I love this author so much was that she can write a fantastically fucked up story without cliché other women crap. Sadly, the last few books I have read of hers have more and more OW drama creeping in. I still don’t see the point of Darrian being a f-ck buddy of Zane’s. Nor did I need to read and have past hookups thrown in my face. However, as always, this is just a personal pet peeve of mine and few people get bothered by this type of thing.
Apart from the aforementioned niggles, I did really enjoy this one. I felt like Maliki and Nyx’s relationship was more fleshed out than Addy and Zane’s (from book one) and their romance also had better closure going into book three. There were also some good twists and turns that moved the overall storyline forward. And no Natalie Bennett book would be complete without a lot of blood, guts, torture, hot sex, and majorly fucked in the head characters. (lol) So yea…bring on book three!
This is the sixth book in the “Badlands” series, and my word, what a journey this story takes you on. This talented author continues to blow my mind with the creativity, imagination and attention to detail in her brilliant stories. Maliki and Nyx are dark, vicious and dynamic characters, and it is entertaining to read how they dance around each other. This is a well written story which is dark, brutal, heartbreaking, twisted, intense, depraved, and with an unexpected surprise, and is definitely not for the feint-hearted.
I was totally intrigued and captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this exceptional author.
This story just blew my mind. This book was all kinds of f* up I knew it was going to be and couldn’t wait to read it. Let me just say this much if you have triggers do not read this, but if you don’t go for it. This is Maliki and Nyx’s story and holy smokes what an amazing sick and twisted one it was. I can’t wait to read the next one in line of this series.
This is just my opinion and my review
***5 ‘Hostile Hellions’ Stars***
And things just got more twisted…
Ok.
I know this entire series is all kinds of twisted goodness, no denying that, but this twisted is a different kind and one I didn’t see coming, but considering who we are talking about, maybe I should have…
But on to Maliki and Nyx…I loved and adored these two. They have this crazy sort of controlled calm thing going on, which I know doesn’t necessarily make total sense, but it’s how I felt as I got to know them. Yes, they are dark and vicious and thrive, not only in the chaos of their minds, but with what is going on around them, but they don’t go off half-cocked in anything. They deliberate and have a plan ~ or as much of one as they can ~ and tend to do the right thing for those they call their own.
As for their relationship and it’s evolution. It wasn’t as craycray as I thought it would be, but it was still a fun ride to watch as they danced around each other and finally with each other. It wasn’t AS angsty as it could be, but the push/pull was a lot of fun and I liked how they built a friendship between them before the gauntlet was thrown down, and let me tell you, that gauntlet was actually kinda sweet ~ I know, sweet is NOT a word I’d’ve thought to use, but it was and I simply found them to be perfect for each other.
I devoured this baby. I did . It wasn’t as chaotic as Degenerates was, IMHO, but the things that happen in this one were just as intense and considering all the info that was let loose…well, I cannot wait to get my hands on Renegades to see what will happen next!
Hellions is the biggest book of the new generation of Savages.
What happens when the Heir of death meets the darkness and unites?
Too much corpses in the street!
This book is full of surprises and a lot of action, its beginning is slightly slow but with explicit scenes of violence and murder.
Our girl accepted her demons a long time ago, she likes to kill and does not feel remorse about it, but after the consequences of kidnapping and betrayal of those who least expected, her soul is broken, she feels empty, until Malik stays by her side.
Malik has eyes only for the inheritance of death.
Our boy is destroyed and hurt by the consequences of a deadly betrayal, that rage consumes him and rips him at night, his moments of peace is when he is with Nyx. Their broken souls meet and enjoy each other’s company.
This book follows the events of Degenerates and is much heavier.
In the end you have your heart in your hand, a big plot twist that leaves you jaw-dropping.
Characters that start out as enemies, friends and then lovers.
After I finished Degenerates, I couldn’t wait to read Nyx and Maliki (and Cam)’s story in Hellions.
Damaged, tortured, violent souls those two were perfect for each other.
“Legendary together— vicious, chaotic gods.”
I admit that I was taken aback by the beginning of the book which it was different from the ending of the previous installment (maybe because I had an ARC version of the book?).
That being said, I completely loved being transported back to the Badlands. I was expecting darkness, wish granted! Disturbing scenes and gruesome moments rhythmed the storyline. The action kept me on the edge of my seat, heart pounding and clammy hands.
“Hope was dangerous, hope was fickle and, when it was snatched away, all it left behind were feelings of desolation.”
With Hellions, secrets are unveiled, twists and turns had my jaw dropping. This is an entertaining read set in an incredible atmosphere. The world building is fabulous, the characters completely enthralling.
“We were hellions embarking on a path of carnage, feeding our demons and using one another.”
I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!
Maliki and Nyx’s story was everything I expected it to be. Intense, chaotic, and a whirlwind journey that was equally amazing and mind blowing. Loved every second on this crazy journey and can’t wait for more of the Next Generation!
“We were both made up of jagged edges and empty spaces, tragically perfect for one another.”
I couldn’t wait to read this book. When I found out it was Nyx and Maliki’s book, I was a little too excited. I was hoping that it would meet my expectations and it did. My favorite book of the series so far has been Outcasts. Arlen is my bitch and Grimm, I just love him. I was happy to see that Nyx had both of her parents’ qualities and was just a kickass heroine in general.
I’m a fan of friends to lovers story lines. It pulls me in like no other. Nxy and Malik were both going through their own personal hells in this book. So seeing them come together and their relationship evolve over the story was wonderful. It was something different for the series. Usually it’s just lust at first sight. But this relationship felt more real and dynamic. The attraction between them was palpable and even though they fooled around here or there with one another they were hesitant to take it to the next level in fear of ruining their friendship.
And even though I knew they would end up together, I was happy to finally hear them admit it to one another.
“I’ll always be around baby-girl, because my demons are beginning to love yours.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Badlands book without blood and chaos and there was just enough of that to keep me satisfied. I don’t want to give anything away in terms of plot but I can’t wait to see where this story goes. I don’t know how many times I have said, “I didn’t see that shit coming.”
The twists in this series are blowing my mind and I am so here for it.
Degenerates and Hellions by Natalie Bennett are part of the Badlands: Next Generation series which looks at a time in the future where everything is uncertain, cults rule most of the land and it is a live or die mentality. Degenerates looks at Adelaide ‘Princess’ Savage and Zane ‘Venom’ prince, both of them are on two different sides but both as wild and destructive. This book was hard core from the beginning, showing a level of violence and darkness not often found in book. Basically, no one is safe and even when you think someone is going to survive, they aren’t going too in this series. This is a fast-paced book, with an insta-love type story where both characters keep secrets and emotions well in check. There are often times when you think Zane is just being cruel, but the more you come to understand about him and his circumstances, the more you find out that he is a product of his lifestyle, background and circumstances. Adelaide is also the same where she is this really strong type person, but she lives in her head a lot and has been really sheltered by her parents until she is out there trying to save her people whilst having this destructive, dark, bone-melting relationship with Zane.
Hellions runs along a similar them with the characters Maliki and Nyx being the main centre of attention (although there are still other characters from the first book, including Zane and Adelaide who pop up. If you thought Degenerates was dark, then you have to read this one as it is on a totally different level. We see the second book pick up where the first one left off where the gang is trying to get loved ones back whilst there are a ton of secrets surrounding them and they need to try and get out alive whilst not destroying each other or being destroyed by outside forces.
Both books are dark, violent and have really gripping sexy scenes. You do have to read the books in order as they run on from one another and all characters make an appearance and you learn a little more about them as the story goes along. There are also moments of extreme sadness, brutality and horror, but they definitely keep you guessing. If you like your books really dark, almost dystopian and not following any rules. Then these are the books for you.
ARC received for a fair and honest review.

Hellions was everything I have come to love about the Badlands series and I absolutely adored Maliki and Nyx. Maliki and Nyx were mesmerizing to watch and I loved how their demons played together. The connection between them was amazing and I enjoyed how they could each be exactly who they were with the other. Maliki and Nyx were each other’s fierce and chaotic mirror images and they were quite the sight to behold. Their broken pieces fit together perfectly and I couldn’t get enough of them. Hellions was a brilliantly dark, twisted, and mindblowing addition to the Badlands series that left me teetering on the edge of my chair craving more of the next generation.
Natalie Bennett never ceases to amaze me with the depths of her imagination, creativity, and insanely vivid world building. World and character consistency was spot on!
I was slightly less gripped by this one as I have some of the others, but it was nonetheless an exciting story. Nyx and Maliki are a fascinating duo and the chemistry between them was sizzling even when it was merely the embers of a burning attraction. I loved the connection they had and how well they complimented each other.
It was wickedly detailed and at least one part turned my stomach slightly. Natalie continues to excel and not holding back on any of the gory details!
4.5 Stars for a Twisting, torturous and a brutally brilliant read.
The momentum and storyline in Hellions flowed better than Degenerates, which hints that the author is concentrating more on her delivery, attention to detail, as well as the composition and it has paid off. This series is my favorite from this author and I’m happy to see it receive the consideration it deserves.
The next generation of the Badlands are starting to live up to my desires and wants from this series. The characters are just as deplorable and degenerate as their parents and it makes my little dark heart rejoice!
The coupling of these two characters is legendary. Maliki is vicious and sadistic constantly in a state of chaos. Nyx, Grimm and Arlen’s daughter, she is Apportens Mortis (bringer of death). The pages bleed murder, mayhem and anarchy. To date, Hellions is definitely the best book in this spinoff series.
While everyone has said it, and I am sure you all see it, this series and this author are only for those select few that like their stories and sex pervertedly bloodied and depraved.
YASSSS y’all!! This book is classic Natalie Bennett and everything I’ve come to love about the deliciously twisted way she writes gore like a dark poet and her chaotic characters who thrive in depravity and sin wickedly with each other.
I loved Addy and Zane in Degenerates, but Nyx and Maliki…
Be still my jet black heart
Maliki is definitely scrumptious, even if he’s a “vicious sadist full of rage”… I don’t care though, I’d still have his babies. He’s all alpha, but not overly possessive and protective over Nyx. He knows she could hold her own. And that’s what I love best about this entire series… Nyx, Addy and every single heroine is treated as an asset, a partner, and not just a damsel in distress that needs to be saved. These women are far from weak and perfectly capable of kicking ass and slaughtering anyone who comes at them… but even bad-ass bitches need to be cherished and adored and that’s exactly how Maliki, Zane and the rest of the heroes in the Badlands books treat their ladies…motherf*cking swoon
Hellions is definitely the best book yet with this new generation of degenerates. The twists, the surprises and the edge of your seat suspense had me completely consumed. As with every book in this series, there are gruesome and vile scenes that will give you nightmares but the way Natalie uses her descriptive words will have you intoxicated with their haunting beauty.
This series won’t be for everyone, BECAUSE LIMITS, but if you aren’t afraid to take a plunge far down the rabbit hole of darkness, then for the love of God, READ IT and see why this author is one of my favorites!
Holy Hell of twisted darkness…this book, Im truly at a loss for words. I knew going into this one would be intense, but crap, I can’t even describe what went on and there was so much. The events that took place are a lot to take in and I have so many questions. Natalie did a lot of twisted things in this newest installment, much more twisted then the others.
Going in, this is Maliki and Nyx story. Both as you know are very broken and dark inside. At times it feels as if they feed off each other’s darkness. As Nyx says, “Positivity is nothing but false hope.” She’s a big ball of Misery, riddled with pain and darkness. Maliki and his Horned Italian Stiletto is not for the faint of heart. The story takes place shortly after where the last one left off and they are searching for the others. They both have a mission to accomplish and seek revenge.
As always, Natalie lives up to her name of The Queen of Darkness. This book has me all over the place in a deliciously dark way. This new generation has definitely upped the game of sick and twisted ways in a brutal kind of way. I absolutely can’t wait to see what direction this series is going to next.
This book is very dark and twisted, just like all the previous books! I was surprised by all the twists and turns and can’t wait to see what happens next!
Perfectly broken
“We were both made up of jagged edges and empty spaces, tragically perfect for one another.” – Nyx
Should it bother me that I get them? That I love what they are together?
I have been reading this series since the first generation (Savages) and I keep asking myself –
How does each episode only get better? And it does.
I will admit I never saw this twist coming – NEVER and now I have so many questions – WTH ??
I figure if you are this far in the series you know what is going on and who the players are so recapping is kind of redundant. If you have not started this series …
*Note*
This is NOT a standalone – This IS a work of fiction – This is NOT for the squeamish (people it is a post-apocalyptic world; cannibals, murderers, those left do what they have to do to survive) – This is NOT sugar coated so if graphic violence and degenerate humans behavior is not your thing I would suggest you skip a visit to the Badlands.
On a side note, I appreciate greatly that Bennett does not give in to pressure and releases her work before she feels it is ready. I don’t mind waiting for perfection
The Badlands saga continues with Maliki and Nyx. The book starts right when the previous book ends, so you can´t read this as a standalone. It is a road trip that you won’t easily forget.
This book is dark, depraved, bloody and full of inner demons fighting their way out. And a big surprise at the end. I did not see that one coming.
Maliki and Nyx are both really interesting characters who fit so well together. Both of then are filled with darkness and sometime struggle with that.
My favorite line of the book was ` I didn’t know how to make someone understand my chaos was not seeking peace, but craving destruction`.
so I enjoyed this one a lot it was sick As!!! if you get my drift.
Totally hardcore from the onset this pushed all my diabolical and totally devious buttons and as such if you do have any particular triggers just do be aware as this doesn’t hold back when it comes to the bloody gore and murderous mayhem.
There are no inhibitions or brakes when it comes to certain behaviours between these pages.
“Hellions” itself is the complete story of Maliki and Nyx but it does need to be experienced in sequence as each piece of the puzzle continues an ongoing story arc.
so I really liked The dynamic between Maliki and Nyx and surprisingly to me, I was actually much more invested with these two than I was with Addy and Zane previously.
I mean I liked both obviously it’s just that Maliki and Nyx had that slight edge for me.
Maliki is so deliciously brutal and defective and Nyx is his female mirror image.
They understand each other’s brand of broken brillance and each can be true to themselves around the other.
Collectively they are one complete whole beautiful in there psychopathic purity.
Almost like a psychotic twin flame lol.
Loved that they became so close and got such good friends and totally got why they were both anxious over maybe losing the person who quieted there inner demon’s.
Also got how the combination of him and Nyx’s might have been too explosive to contain and it was something Maliki initially worried might be too much merged as one.
I was observing in avid glee when Maliki eventually loosened the reins and took the advice of others and totally unleashed his inner psycho, reining sadistic savagery all around.
He has made his barbarity almost into an art form and there is absolutely no judgement from Nyx’s quarter.
I was also shocked sideways by that unexpected reveal so unexpected that.
I did have some slight niggles here one being the somewhat unfinished feel of Zane and Addy’s relationship, I have since seen a statement from the author that they are getting another book so that has cheered me up no end.
There were also some tiny minor nitpicks but these were more just personal preferences.
This was really engrossing and as expected excellently written.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of “Hellions: Next Generation (Badlands #6)”

What just happened? Can a girl get a drink..maybe a fan..perhaps a straight jacket?
Hellions (Nyx & Maliki’s Story) was jam packed full of all the dark twists & turns, a connection between two people that was surprisingly more emotional than I expected but I LOVED IT and all the gruesome adventures into the Badlands….I have been a fan of this series from the beginning but the Next Generation books are just something else! More twists, more secrets & so many jaw dropping moments that have left me with one hell of a book hangover and a list a mile long of questions…The Badlands is definitely one of my favorite book worlds to visit (book hangovers and all) & I cannot wait for the next book in this series
