In an attempt to seduce a younger firefighter, a sexy widow gets a lesson in burning desires by the firefighter’s badass partnerWidow Lola Engel owns the only fancy shoe store in Hellfire, Texas, but selling shoes to housewives can be a tad boring. To add a little spice to her life, she sets her sights on the young Chance Grayson, a firefighter she’d like to light up her sheets. Only when she … she sets the stage for a sexy rescue, Grayson’s partner takes the call.
Daniel Flannigan doesn’t have the patience to play games. He’s a serious firefighter and he has a problem with trumped up calls that take time and effort away from real emergencies. When a particularly sexy widow cries wolf once too often, he takes the call with the intention of teaching the woman a valuable lesson.
In the end, they might both be schooled when the heat rises, igniting a flame neither expected to burn.

What a tease this was, just a short story with promise of more in the next novel. Looks like this is a hot fireman alert series and I need to go back and read the previous ones for more action. I enjoyed it, bring on the next one.
I received an ARC copy of this book and I chose to review it. It is a well written short story. This is a quick easy read. I do encourage everyone to get this book it is a great place to start with this series. Elle James is a go to author, I have been reading her for a long time and each book I have gotten has been a winner.
I usually love a book by Elle James. Because this is a prequel (and very short), I was unable to get the romantic vibe that is her trademark. Don’t get me wrong: there is a lot of steam, but it is lust, not love driven. Basically, this book sets the stage for the next book, Playing with Fire. It introduces you to Lola, a lonely widow with her eye on a young fireman, and Daniel, another fireman who sees through her juvenile attempts for attention. As the story continues in her next book, I expect the romance between Lola and Daniel to explode.
A very short and steamy read. Lola and Flannigan are meant for each other whether they want it to be or not. They can deny it all they want, but they both want each other and yet they don’t want to want each other. I can’t wait to see how this relationship evolves.
arc.review for honest review when widow and show shop owner lola keeps calling 911 for the fire department Daniel Flanagan is going to show what crying wolf can get you burned. Awesome hot
I received a complimentary copy of this book PLUS I also purchased a copy (I just LOVE this author and Hellfire, TX!)
As an older woman, it is great to see an author writing about an older woman and a younger man. While I am in my 50’s and Lola is 39 (really 41!), most authors ignore this type of scenario. I don’t know why, we haven’t lost our sexually once we turn 40. We see the older man and the younger woman all the time. I hope Ms. James continues along this line! Okay on with the review and off my soapbox.
Lola has been a widow for 6 years. She has been after Chance Grayson for awhile now. She doesn’t want to marry him as she buried the love of her life. She just wants a good romp in bed with the sexy young Grayson brother. She has called 911 on several occasions that where actually a set-up to get Chance to notice her. Chance on the other hand is clueless but his partner Daniel is not. Daniel responds to the latest call to set her straight on her abuse of the 911 system. The encounter is a fun, sexy and HOT response!
This book is written in a dual POV. This is my favorite format as I get to really connect with the character. I can really see why Daniel is upset with Lola for all the right reasons but it was fun to see his struggle as he comes to see her as a sexual female and not just an older woman.
This is a short read and not like her other books. I can’t wait for more of their story and wished this was a more complete novel like the rest of her books. I didn’t take away any stars as I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you looking for a quick and dirty book, this one is for you!
I really liked this book however there were parts that made my eye roll. While I’m all for a woman owning her sexuality especially if she is a little older, the lengths she was going to was almost embarrassing. I could totally understand Daniel Flannigan dislike of her abusing the 911 system just to get laid.
That being said, I liked that Daniel was a little more controlling once he set his sights on her. Lola was a woman who needed someone who wouldn’t back down from her and would bring the spark and passion to the table and Daniel was the perfect man for the job.
This is book 4 in the Hellfire, Texas series and it features Lola and Daniel. There’s no stopping a determined woman like Lola when she wants something or someone. Her shenanigans were hilarious. This spark might just burn hotter than an actual fire. I can’t wait to read their story in the next Hellfire, Texas book.
Lola is out to catch a firefighter, but she may have caught more than she can handle. This is a short, sexy, fun introduction to Lola Engel and Daniel Flannigan, an unexpected match. It’s an enjoyable taste of what’s to come. I recommend this quick, appealing almost love story.
