As a hellhound beta, Solomon has no complaints. Life is fine. His pack and his goddess-given duties as a protector of the human realm are enough. So what if he’s a little bored and a smidge lonely? Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. When his alpha’s mate suggests he pull his head out of his ass where one of their human pack mates is concerned, Sol cooks up a scheme to break through the … the wall between him and Cody, but it comes at the worst possible time.
Cody is convinced the bar he works in is run by a group of elite mob enforcers. Nothing else makes sense. The funny thing is: he doesn’t care. They treat him well and he’s come to consider them family, but like any family, there’s always someone who stirs up trouble. For Cody, that’s Solomon, the bouncer who is constantly glaring at him from the back of the bar. Something is going on, but Cody has a new distraction in the form of an anonymous online lover who knows how to push all the right buttons.
A magical attack causes havoc for their pack, dragging Cody into a world he didn’t know existed. His new family is involved in a much more dangerous life than he could ever have imagined. Hellhounds and humans must join together to stop a terrifying creature hell bent on raining destruction down on them. Solomon and Cody must step up and fulfill their destinies, or risk losing the one thing they desire most: each other.

This book is just as good as the first Hellhound Champions book. I absolutely loved Cody’s snark and imagination. He is a great match for bada$$ Sol. I read all the Chosen One books before reading this series. I would advise new readers follow Macy Blake’s suggested reading order for the entire Chosen One universe. It is on her website. The characters from different series show up from time to time and it is good to have a frame of reference for what is happening or has happened. I highly recommend the entire Chosen One universe.
I mean, what can I say that hasn’t been said already. Macy has created such a fantastical world here. I love all the paranormal creatures featured here and I love that it’s not just your typical creatures.
I love all these interconnecting stories and characters, and this one was no different. Sol & Cody were amazing together. Their chemistry was present and seeing them develop feelings and a relationship was great to see. I liked the tiny hint of hate to love here. The humor is present between all the characters and it’s great, just like every book Blake writes. Cody starts off pretty uncertain here, I loved seeing him grow braver and surer of himself.
Overall, this was an amazing addition to this ever expanding universe.
Annoyance turned to affection, longing turned to satisfaction, hopes turned to reality…with a little help from an app, Solomon finally gets his chance with Cody. We all knew there was something there between them, but I didn’t grasp just how much was in Solomon’s heart for the gregarious bartender until we got this story. The softness of his heart blew me away and I can’t adequately express just how much I grew to love this man. Cody’s fire and commitment to the family of Hellhounds that adopted him is fantastic. He made the right kind of partner for the generally gruff yet caring bouncer that was hiding all kinds of tenderness under his abrupt, demanding exterior. And the passion between them? Incendiary. All kinds of awesome in this book.
Despite where they ended up, I couldn’t help but be annoyed at Cody’s blindness toward Solomon. It was hard to read at times because we’re getting the full force of Solomon’s yearning as well as his angst over how to turn Cody’s head. And to know that it’s been that way for years was difficult to swallow. But once they are on the same page, it’s all kinds of great and I softened toward Cody enough to not only love him for himself, but to love him for Solomon.
It’s clear that we’re heading toward a really big confrontation in their world and I cannot wait to get there! What I like about this series is that we have one conflict that goes throughout the whole series, including the connected one and each book deals with a small part of it that both illuminates a piece of the bigger picture as well as including a small victory. It’s really tough to read a series that just sees failure after failure until the big moment comes and only then are all the pieces revealed and somehow everything works out. This series is proving that it’s getting deeper and better with each subsequent book and where Hell to Pay gives us more for the whole, it’s on its own too with Solomon and Cody finding their place not only together, but in the supernatural world with their new roles and responsibilities. Big changes are coming for the Hellhounds and I’m eagerly awaiting them!
I’m starting to need a cheat sheet for all the characters in this author’s amazing world, but that only makes me love it more! This series is tied to The Chosen One series, so you should definitely read those as well as Hell on Earth, Shaq and Drew’s story. That one includes Sol and introduces Cody, who are the lovable heroes of this book.
Hellhound Sol is incredibly attracted to Cody, but he scowls and growls to the point that Cody thinks Sol doesn’t like him at all. Cody is human, so he doesn’t know what is going on with the big tough guys he works with, including Sol, but he knows something is definitely up. I love his guesses! Sol has to work for things to change, and Cody is bemused, confused, and charmed – as well as incredibly attracted to the big moody man.
As Sol and Cody finally embark on a relationship, evil comes to visit, putting the people they love in danger. It’s hard to fight evil, keep secrets, and romance your mate at the same time, but Sol puts forth a valiant effort! Meanwhile, Cody gains confidence and takes on challenges he never would have imagined, while his first thought is always for Sol.
It’s pretty obvious that I love all the books in these connected series. I love the magic and the sense of family and yes, the hot and sweet romance. The characters are incredible. Sol and Cody are funny, strong, and sexy together. I love them both. I hope to see much more of them in future books, as their responsibilities increase and their bond grows even stronger. This is recommended with all my romance-and-adventure-loving heart!
The plot thickens!
While Cody and Sol finally open their eyes and work things between them, danger lurks. While surrounded by dangerous magic and fighting its creatures ,they find strength in their feelings.
Can’t get enough of the world Macy Blake created and I can’t wait for what’s next.
This was sooo good! Cody is such a perfect mate for Sol—his ideas about what Meshaq and company are involved with kept me laughing. And his grace under pressure was impressive. And Sol…so nice to see his sweetness under all the gruff. (Plus the app…that was genius!) Guys from The Chosen One series make an appearance, too. Just a fantastic read that makes me want to start over from the beginning—again!

This book was amazing! I really liked the chemistry between Sol and Cody. Having observed their relationship in previous books, it was nice to finally dive into their relationship! I really love how all of these books of Macy’s that still connect to one another even if they’re at different points in the overall story! Seeing familiar faces again and learning more about the threats that are coming to the characters is interesting and exciting. I have never been more on edge in a story or eager for the next one than this series and the Chosen One series! Once again, another amazing book with wonderful characters!

Solomon is the second in command for the Hellhounds. Solomon has wanted Cody since the first time he saw him, but Cody arrived hurting and emotional broken, so Sol kept away. Sol stayed away by being grouchy and unfriendly, now that Cody is looking for companionship, how can Sol show he really has been interested all this time?
Cody has had his eye on Shaq from the beginning. Cody can see now that Shaq and Drew were made for each, but he wants someone to look at him like Shaq looks at Drew.
This can probably be read as a stand alone, but many of the previous characters are mentioned with no back story for them. I think reading them in order would give a better understanding of the big fight scene and the ending. I enjoy this series. I’m curious as to why the author has taken this route with Sol, so I’ll be reading the next book. I think that the plot line is quite complex and carries over from book to book. I’d like to get answers to some of the questions, the same questions remain unanswered at the end of every book and the book add another. Hopefully thing will start to be revealed soon.
