Hell on Wheels is book four in the Kings of Mayhem MC series. While it is a standalone, it is recommended you read the first three books in the series to get a feel for the MC and the family.

I enjoyed this read. Chance and Cassidy’s story was intense and engaging. My heart bled for Chance. So badly broken on both the inside and out, he truly needed some light to help ease the darkness that consumed him and the form that light took was Cassidy. I liked Cassidy but I did think she did some fairly dumb things and made poor choices. Reguardless, I felt that these two wounded people made a great couple. The storyline is filled with drama, tension, strong emotions, danger and heat. I thought that this was a very good read in a entertaining series.
**I received a copy of Hell on Wheels from Net Galley and Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions expressed below are mine and not solicited in any way.**
Hell on Wheels by Penny Dee is the fourth book in her Kings of Mayhem MC series. I’ve waited awhile to read Chance’s story and wasn’t disappointed. However you need to know that there are several triggers in the story so please be aware. Lets just say that Chelsea/Cassidy’s foster brother is one sick puppy and leave it at that. However my most favorite person Grandma Sybil comes in to make her “special” brownies for her group of ladies and I’ll just say this don’t let her go to the bathroom while a rival MC wants her weed.
Cassidy has been on the run for over a year with her friend Missy so when they arrive in Destiny little does she know that her secret will be revealed and there will be some jealousy with her “friend” and her brother. But it will be Chance who’ll step up to protect her from the Devil as well as the Kings of Mayhem MC and their ladies. But can Cassidy convince Chance that he’s still the beautiful soul inside even though his scars are outside? Will he be able to realize that the betrayal in Afghanistan which caused his scars and loss of his SEAL team?
Chance has his own demons to battle with his father who was very vindictive and escaping as soon as he could to join the Navy and becoming a SEAL. However, between his guilt, scars from the explosion taking care of Cassidy who carries her own demons could it lead to his HEA? Can they both banish their darkness and make a new life together?
This is the fourth book in this series I had book one on my TBR pile but have now bought book two and three that is how much I enjoyed this book.
Chance Calley was the oldest of the Calley boys and the one that wore the brunt of his fathers abuse he was willing to do that to save his brothers because at heart he is a protector that led to him joining the navy and becoming a Seal but one mission brought that to an end A mission that killed his teammates and left him so scarred physically and mentally that he doesn’t know how he survived. The PTSD is eating him away and it seems to be getting worse. Then he sees her Cassidy she is a woman battling her own demons she is on the run and earning her way by singing in the streets when the big burly biker steps up to save her she is attracted But can two damaged people actually be the saving of one another Can she help him with his PTSD and will he be able to finally make her feel safe. You will have to read to see
Loving Chance!!
Those Calley boys just keep getting better and better. Chance grew up in the MC with his father as a dark and very dangerous Prez who was raising Chance as a future Prez and not as a son. Those dark scars now turned into visible scars on his back while serving his time in war. One of his last memories was pulling a trigger on someone he never expected would betray him.
Cassidy was also a victim of her upbringing and with the unspeakable things done to her by her foster brother she has been on the run trying to hide from him. When Cassidy shows up in Kings of Mayhem territory she and Chance find each other and he is trying to keep emotions and hands off Cassidy but it’s proving more impossible as time goes on.
As with the whole Kings of Mayhem MC series this author does not miss a beat and she delivers another awesome MC book that you find you won’t be able to put down. Ms. Dee knows how to take you to dark places and then pulls you back from the edge all the while telling a story that has meaning behind it and has you feeling all sunshiny….biker style
I knew I would love Chance’s story. It is very emotional and might have some triggers for some people. I loved the slow burn between Chance and Violet. It worked for me. Here is my take on Chance, WOW! He is loving and caring and Violet needs him. This is a great couple who find happiness despite all of the emotional baggage they carry. Normally epilogues are not something I care to read unless it is a short time later but this epilogue was epic! Great story.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
I have thoroughly enjoyed ever book in this series! Several of the books brought tears and giggles as well. I love the strong women especially Grandma! Please continue to write more on the other MC members. Excellent series and I highly recommend reading!
Oh how I was waiting for Chance’s story. As a military vet and married to a combat veteran, I could really empathize with Chance’s road to recovery. He is scarred, both inside and out. He thinks he is an unredeemable soul…he couldn’t be more wrong.
Cassidy is a broken soul, the unimaginable horrors that she faced until she was brave enough to run is heartbreaking. She has the courage that most people wish they had. She sees the beauty in Chance, the real man beneath the scars and she fights to make him see it too.
Ms. Dee yet again immerses the reader into the gritty world that is Destiny. Her words weave a visual that is both beautiful and dangerous, hopeful and bleak.
Like with her other stories in this series, you see the “family” that the MC creates. You get action and suspense that will leave you gasping. You see a love so fragile bloom in adversity and chaos. That is a true testament to exemplary writing.
You can’t go wrong with this series by Penny Dee! I hope she continues writing this series, there are so many secondary characters that I would love to see get their own stories.
Hell on Wheels by Penny Dee is the fourth book in her Kings of Mayhem MC series. Told in dual POV between Chance and Cassidy, we finally get to learn more about the oldest Calley brother. About his life growing up as the oldest and having to deal with the more nightmarish side of their father, and about just how far he is willing to go to protect the woman he loves. From a terrible injury and incident while on a mission for the Navy SEALS we see him work through the darkness in his soul while trying his best to keep that darkness far away from the one woman that has the ability to heal him. Cassidy is on the run and when the large beautiful biker steps in to help her she is initially suspicious but something in his soul calls to hers and maybe, just maybe, with Chance’s help she can finally stop running, finally stop living everyday in fear of the monster that chases her. Enjoy!
This was book 4 of this series and each one is so good this one didn’t disappoint Chance story was so good … He is the oldest in his family …..His father was very cruel to him and he left to become a Seal…..A mission went bad and he came home scarred and has PTSD … He falls in love with Cassidy who is broken too from her past and these two heal each other…. you will have to read to find out ……. Another great book from this author… I hope there is more books in this series….
Penny has knocked another one out of the park with this fantastic story! I could not put it down from page one, right up to the last page. I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series but I loved Chance and Cassidy’s story!
Chance is so messed up in so many ways. My heart broke for him; he had some pretty raw, emotional and physical scars that keep him from moving forward. Poor Cassidy, her story hits a bit close to home for me on some level.
Hell On Wheels is the fourth book in the Kings of Mayhem MC series. It can be read as a standalone although I suggest reading the first three books first. It will give you more insight into all the other characters in the series. I can’t wait to read more from Penny Dee.
HELL ON WHEELS is the fourth instalment in Penny Dee’s contemporary, adult KINGS OF MAYHEM MC erotic, romance series focusing on the members of the Kings of Mayhem MC. This is Sargent at Arms and former Navy SEAL Chance Calley, and musician/waitress Cassidy aka Chelsea Silvermane’s story line. HELL ON WHEELS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the story line content, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Chance and Cassidy) HELL ON WHEELS follows Cassidy, a young woman on the run from her past, a past that is about to catch up and destroy. When the band scheduled to play at the Kings of Mayhem MC patching in ceremony cancels at the last minute, Sargent at Arms Chance Calley finds a replacement with a beautiful street busker he knows only as Cassidy, a woman about to run for places unknown. With her past just a few steps behind, Cassidy makes enough money to head for the hills but betrayal comes at a cost. Panicked and afraid for her life, Cassidy will, once again, come face to face with Chance Calley, the man who is about to change her life. What ensues is the building relationship between Chance and Cassidy, and the potential fall-out as Cassidy’s past demands all, and so much more.
Chance Calley is a former US Navy SEAL who has suffered greatly when his last deployment went all to h*ll. Scarred, both inside and out, Chance doesn’t do relationships as he is unable to get past what happened and why, but something about Cassidy stirs our hero’s frozen heart. Cassidy has seen monsters and Chance isn’t even close to her list but the monsters from her past are closing in, and will take everyone down to get what they want.
The relationship between Cassidy and Chance is one of immediate attraction but neither one is in a place for a permanent relationship. Having to always look over her shoulder, Cassidy is unable to settle down without fear of being found but meeting Chance Calley finds our heroine hoping for a future, a future that includes a happily ever after. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters include Cade and Indy (Kings of Mayhem #1 & Brothers in Arms #2), Caleb and Honey (Biker Baby #3), as well as club president Michael ‘Bull’ Western, and members Vader, Joker, Animal, and Hawke, as well as Granny Sybil Calley. We are introduced to Cassidy’s friend and roommate Missy, and Missy’s brother Craig. The requisite evil has many faces.
HELL ON WHEELS is a story of family, vengeance, betrayal, madness and love; a story of retribution, fear, trust and acceptance. The premise is emotional, intense and engaging; the characters are energetic, broken and colorful; the romance is steamy and hot HELL ON WHEELS is a gritty, spicy and edgy look at love in the world of the Kings of Mayhem MC.
I didn’t think this series could get any better, I was wrong. Chance’s story blew me away. I knew he was going to have a lot of issues, being in a war zone, his comrades dead, his trust betrayed, suffering horrific injuries, he returned to his family. While his scars are healing well on the outside, inside he’s still warring with his emotions. Meeting Cassidy stirs something deep inside that he thought was dead. Cassidy is running, running from something bad, evil even, and she too has suffered betrayal from someone she thought she could trust. Can they learn to trust in each other? Can Chance tame the beast within and give Cassidy what they both want so desperately? I loved Chance so much, he was just such a good guy, no messing, straight up, nice guy who wanted to be loved, scars and all. So too was Cassidy, they were so much alike, battling demons the only way they new how. Together they were a formidable team. A great story, I was addicted from the get-go, brilliant writing and truly wonderful characters. Penny Dee is now a one-click go-to author for me, if she writes it, I want to read it.
Beauty and the Beautiful Beast
“We were too broken. Too jaded by our past. And too frightened of our future.” ~ Cassidy
Sometimes it is both the physical and emotional scars that we carry that we allow to define us. Hope is like a bandage that needs to be ripped off in order to move forward in our lives.
Cassidy is running from her past. Chance feels like to he is still living in his past. Each of their torment just oozes from the pages but underneath all of their past baggage, hope sits as a tiny kernel waiting to break free. Chances compulsion to protect Cassidy is swoon worthy as we begin to see more of his character. Cassidy has just the right about of sweet and sass for Chance.
I enjoyed getting to know both of these characters.
Just when I thought Caleb was my favorite Calley brother along comes Chance to take the cake! Chance Calley is the epitome of an alpha, albeit a broken one, and loves so hard it hurts. Cassie is the new girl in town running from a super ugly past. The torment that Chance puts himself through in this book is just heartbreaking…from what he believes to be the sins that he has to pay for forever to the flashbacks of his father’s ugliness. As a reader, I hurt so much for Chance throughout my entire read of this book! There was not a single moment where I did not hurt for him. And then Cassie…oh my, I don’t know how that girl was still so strong after everything she had been through. What I love about Penny Dee is that she doesn’t hold anything back. Her details of Cassie’s tortured past and Chance’s torment from his father are so so raw that you can’t help but want to love these two character. What I also love about this series overall is the family that the club has created. Bull, the club’s president, is such an enigmatic figure and you can tell even from his small cameos that he loves his club brothers no matter what. Now that we have the Calley Brothers’ stories, I’m super excited to see where the series goes as far as the stories of the club, especially Bull!
Hell on Wheels is book 4 in the Kings of Mayhem MC series written by the talented author Penny Dee.
Holy Hell Yes!If you are looking for a sexy biker romance then this book is for you. Hell on Wheels is about Cassidy and Chance Calley, a heartbreaking journey of two trouble souls. The plot is full of drama, awesome characters, sexy bikers, sassy old ladies, humor, secrets, bit of mystery and a great end. NO Spoilers here, go buy the book it is worth it. Another amazing story by Penny Dee. Highly recommended.
WOW! Another wonderful story by Penny Dee. This one pulled us along the emotionally raw journey of Chance and Cassidy. Two beautiful individuals marred by horrific pasts that have left the scars of war, foreign and domestic.
Like Chance, Cassidy’s scars are physical and emotional, but hers come from home. The home where you’re supposed to be safe and protected. Yet home for her was the very place she was terrorized and unable to escape.
To everyone else, Chance’s bodily scars from war seem to be his worst problem, but really it’s the emotional turmoil that lives and breathes inside that is slowly killing him.
“It wasn’t just my scars that made me a monster. It was the darkness inside. And I knew it was growing stronger every day. Because the military had made me a soldier. But war made me a beast.”
Chance is a smoldering hottie that oozes an understated sexiness. I loved Chance! Yes, he’s an alpha for sure, but underneath, even with all of his inner turmoil, there is a layer of sensitivity that I appreciated. Outwardly, Chance can put on the charm and dazzle your socks off. But inside he believed he wasn’t worthy or deserving of love. The last thing he was looking for was a relationship beyond a one and done.
Yet when he stumbles into a situation where there’s a damsel in distress he suddenly finds himself volunteering to be the one to save her.
“l’d always thought my darkness was the most powerful force I’d ever known. But it was nothing compared to the power of her allure.”
This story is about their journey towards each other and learning to love themselves in the process. They will have to fight many obstacles on the way. Some you can predict and some will throw you for a loop. I loved that Cassidy could see Chance’s beauty inside and out, even if he didn’t. I especially appreciated that the author gave Cassidy the strength to refuse to let her past define her. She’s a compassionate and patient character and the perfect match for Chance. I really loved their swoony emotional story. I am so glad they found each other. Reading their story was like watching a flower unfold revealing a brilliant bloom in the end.
“We fell asleep, entwined in each other, and the warm flicker of hope burning in our hearts.”
Swwwooon!!
I really, really enjoyed reading this story. It definitely had me on edge waiting for the menacing horrible person you knew was coming to show up. The skull mask guy didn’t help, totally creeped me out. The book was filled with all the feels! In and amongst the emotional raw and gritty the author gave us some comic relief to make it a perfectly balanced entertaining read. I liked immersing myself once again into the Kings of Mayhem world and visiting some of my favorite characters. And Penny Dee… I still want Bull’s story! Even more now that I know about the loss in his life.
I read an ARC of this book. My fair and honest review is voluntary.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Chance Calley is holding in a lot of hate and anger. He’s also holding on to a lot of pain. Cassidy Lewis doesn’t want anything to do with trouble. She’s the opposite of Chance – she’s holding in a lot of fear. Even though Chance has a lot going on in his head, he sees a woman in trouble and is willing to do what is necessary to see that she’s safe.
This is one of those books that I felt like a kid at Christmas. Is it here yet? My mother would say I have ants in my pants. I’ve gotten to the point I look forward to her next book but I’m not the most patient person in the world. I need my Penny Dee fix. I know our author has plenty of other material I could check out but I want my Kings of Mayhem.
Chance gives the reader more than the workings of an MC. We get to see who he is and what he had to deal with prior to our introduction. Cassidy has her own set of worries but Chance looks to be her knight in shining armor. You will have no trouble seeing the stirrings of something more but for me it was all about the suspense.
Got to love how good our author is at creating the devil himself – he will make you shiver. Of course he wears a disguise – he’s well known to one of our main characters. And our author keeps us turning the page because our devil teases us and if we don’t want to miss the point where he gets what’s coming to him you just can’t stop until the end. And if you don’t get to the end then you’ll miss how the author gets you to laugh and to smile.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Heartbreakingly Fantastic!
What an amazing and heartbreaking story. This was a nail biter from beginning to end. So many twists and turns with lots of suspense that keeps you fully engaged in the story and with each character.
I fell in love with these characters. Chance has turned into a beast from his time and injuries serving his country. He has been damaged beyond repair, or so he thinks. Cassidy is also a very damaged woman that doesn’t want to let people in to know the real her and what happened in her life. These two together made my heart break from all of the unfortunate and horrific events that took place in their lives. I was routing for them right from the start. Their interactions are emotionally intense and very hot an steamy!
The story was so well written and I became very emotional reading it. I wanted everything to be perfect for these two. There were many times when I felt extreme hate and loathing for certain characters in the story. It is a fantastic read. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Highly recommend.
5 OH MY CHANCE STARS!! Wow….Chance is EVERYTHING!! I have loved every story in this series, but Hell on Wheels is my FAVORITE BOOK. Chance and Cassidy are both broken, but completely PERFECT together. Their story will touch your hearts and put a smile on your face. Penny Dee is becoming one of my favorite authors with her storytelling….she is PHENOMENAL. You definitely need to read this book and series.
This one is the best I think so far having read others in this series. It finally hit a pop for me, but it was really good before. Chance and Cassidy takes us on a ride with us clinging to them to not miss a beat or roar of a bike. There is pitfalls also that they must come out of, with one larger than life also. How the healing takes place is a good part of this also with it being a way that fits them. This author will pull emotions out that you least expect. Excellent from beginning to end.
