Winner of the 2018 Spur Award for Best Paperback Western In the first of a trailblazing new series, acclaimed western author Charles G. West introduces the legend of a man called Hawk . . . To start their new life together, Jamie Pratt and his young bride join a westward wagon train bound for the Rocky Mountains. They get as far as Helena when their unscrupulous wagon master deserts them, leaving … unscrupulous wagon master deserts them, leaving them as good as dead in a godforsaken, blood-scorched land. The other settlers agree to set stakes where they are, but Jamie and his bride press on toward the Bitterroot Valley, deep into Sioux territory.
THEY NEVER COME OUT THE OTHER SIDE
Jamie’s brother, Monroe, enlists the legendary scout John Hawk to find them. A hardened veteran of the range, Hawk is living off the land in a little cabin on the Boulder River when Monroe comes begging for his help. To rescue Jamie and his bride, Hawk—and his guns—will soon be back in the saddle, riding fast and fierce into deadly odds. For any other man it’s a suicide mission. For Hawk, delivering justice is what he was born to do . . .

Great western read! Well written and I could not put the book down! Bring on more of these Mr. West.
The Old West rides again! John Hawk is a sometimes army scout who lives a life of adventure and danger. He also lives by the code of the old west—kindly treatment of women, fair treatment of all decent men, and instantaneous fierce justice meted out to any man who would foolishly challenge him or the code! Mr. West has produced an endearing character that brings the old west to life and draws you in. It’s amazing how much revenge stalks him and how much the stalkers have to pay for threatening the wrong man. If you love the cowboy genre, this book’s for you!
I would read anything by Charles West. I really like his character John Hawk.
A fun read. It kept my interest throughout.
Will read more of his books.
Good story. Some sections are slow but still a good read.
Great characterization but always impersonal toward living happily everafter. Need to resolve but can not to continue seriers
I felt the story was well developed and exciting. Our hero was down to earth and realistic in his character. Still, he was a good man who tried to be fair. I liked it!
Want to read more by this author. A great western.
Fun read
I enjoyed the twists and turns as the author moved the characters through the story. Really enjoyed it and highly recommend it to others who like this book genre.
It was a good western.
Excellent story line!
It was the late author Bill Crider, with his ‘Outrage at Blanco’ novel that made me love revenge stories so much and in away revenge stories for me will always be a tribute to him.
Another awesome read, the 2018 Spur Award winner, from one of the greatest Western writers of the 21st Century. West never disappoints, puts his readers right into the pages and a master with creating believable characters.
With Hell Hath No Fury, author Charles G. West created a masterpiece one that has a multiple intertwining storyline, glad it’s the first book in the John Hawk series, since you want to read more about Hawk and it’s long over due that he’s now a Spur Award winning author.
Part of the storyline involves army scout John Hawk, whose well like by the high ranking command, one of the other scouts Ray Nestor jealous of this, he not as good as Hawk and his enemy.
The other storyline involves Jamie Pratt and his wife Rachel, add in rustling involving missing cattle from the Pratt Brothers Ranch, it’s action packed, good verse evil, mix in a two clues from scenes in this story and realized that he’s written both the Range Detectives and Will Tanner series’s for the Johnstone estate.
Good shooter up
Being a western, this was a little different for me but would recommend it even if this isn’t typically your genre
Enjoyable reading. Liked the descriptions of landscapes, horse and shooting equipment etc.
Hawk will turn out to be a great favorite of readers of Westerns.
