This was the conclusion of the Hell Divers series, and I mourned the end of a great read. I loved the characters and became quite attached to them. Highly recommend this postapocalyptic series and will continue to read works from this author!
Fantastic series with this being the best read of all.
Love this series
Like all the hell diver books it was excellent.
There are not many books or series that I stop everything for. This is one of them. If you want something, totally original and different. I recommend the Hell Divers series.
Fantastic.
The master of the unpredictable, of intense actin and great story telling has done it again in this fifth installment of his excellent Hell Diver series!!! The story starts off fast paced and never slows down. And he got me again as I thought I had it all figured out, only to be proven once again – that one should not try to second guess Nicholas’s writing talent. I highly recommend this book, but also encourage to start at he very beginning with book 1, so it will truly make sense as to who and what is going on. I am now going to be anxiously waiting for the next installment!!!!
A good twist on a distopian future, with monsters and evil humans. A fun read
All the Hell Diver books are incredible! Each book I hungrily devour and afterwards I am left in stunned awe. I enjoy the character stories, the depth of emotion and the intricate and detailed storyline. In this installation the word home becomes prominent but the war wages on. I enjoyed this book I think the most in the series. I find I ask myself: Could you dive so humanity survives? This book, the whole series really, is well worth every second it takes to read it and every penny it cost to buy it (which wasn’t much at all).
HD5, riveting, captivating, emotional. Smith delivers all you could ever want in a good book. He made me laugh, cry, gasp, yell and a few other emotional responses. He takes us to the Metal Islands, reveals their way of life to us, showing the savageness, the cruelty, the despair. He thrusts us into the midst of battle on the sea and from the air, showing the carnage and ensuing death. He shows us bravery, loyalty, trust and ultimate sacrifice. This book is filled with action from beginning to end. Smith sinks his writing claws into you and holds fast, not letting go until he has wrung every conceivable emotion from you. This book may end the search of the inhabitants of the Hive for a new place to live but it also begins a new adventure as they start a new search for the survivors they now know are out there.
I started the Hell Divers series not knowing what I was getting into. The 1st had me hooked and they keep getting better and better. Hell Divers 5 has to be the best yet.
In a post-apocalyptic world that is still uninhabitable 250 years since humanity destroyed itself, a lone group search for one place to start over. It’s a battle they cannot lose!
Nicholas Sansbury Smith has written what may be his best book yet, and that’s saying a lot. From Trackers to Extinction Cycle and now Hell Divers V, Captives will keep you entertained and thrilled from page 1 to the last page.
What an amazing story! I have been really looking forward to book 5 as book 4 left me wanting more to the story. Usually I can pace myself to make a book last, but not this one….it’s that good. I love Nick’s style of writing and editing is top notch
I always hate hearing the words “Audible hopes you’ve enjoyed this program” when I’m truly enjoying a book like this. Thankfully there is more to come, but sadly I have to wait. This is truly one of the best post-apocalyptic series I’ve listened to, and I’d love to see it made into a movie or TV series as long as it doesn’t get butchered by directors. This series gets better with each book and I’m glad to know there are a few more in the works! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for X and his friends. As always, excellent writing by Nicholas Sansbury Smith and an outstanding narration by R.C. Bray!
Some small spoilers ahead:
I love the way Nick Sansbury Smith writes. I’ve followed him since Orbs and I will say each story is better than the last. There are so many threads in this storyline, and so much tension, that it’s hard to put the book down. In HDV: Captives, there is the story of X, an older Hell Diver who has survived the surface for years, and now has to return to not fight for survival, but kind of fight for sport with Rhino, and the Cazadores. He’s also worried about Magnolia, who is about to become the forced wife of the leader of the Metal Islands. Oh, and the Cazadores are cannibals by the way. Katrina is fighting her own battle trying to get to the Metal Islands with a group of rookie Hell Divers (including Jed Snow who is I think the third “Jed” to die in a Nick Smith book). There’s the Hive of course, and then there’s Michael, Les and Red Sphere. It’s all great, and I highly recommend this series.
Wow! Great Read! This latest book in the Hell Divers series is excellent Exciting, fast paced, and at times heart-pounding. Hell Divers has been a favorite series of mine since I read book one. It is a very unique story in the Sci-Fi genre, and a great read in any fiction category. “Wow” may sound like a childish way to start a review, but that was the first word out of my mouth after finishing the book. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a well written story.
Once again, Mr. Smith captivates us with his imagination. Edge of your seat action, thrills and spills, this newest book has it all. Dive in today!
Hell Divers is a truly amazing series and this latest installment did not disappoint.!! From start to finish, I had a hard time putting this book down. I could never come up with this stuff in my wildest dreams. This series is a definite must read.
This was a great book. Amazing story. It’s fast paced and pulls you into the story. I loved it! There were some tense moments! Amazing end to the book.
This story is violent, dark and exceptionally heartbreaking. The action is well done, the descriptions of the world and its people is real. It’s so well done, that it is the reason I don’t like parts of this book. I love learning about how the world got to be this way. I really enjoyed seeing it all come together at the end. But sadly, as NSS is wont to do, we lose people we’ve grown to love. Yes it propels the story forward, yes it is a time of war, but damnitman! Some people should just be off-limits!
If you haven’t started the series, DO IT.
Thank me later =)
A group known as the Hell Divers will do what is necessary to keep their dwindling, airborne community alive. They’ll even go up against a cannibalistic mad-man who dominates the only inhabitable area of the planet.
The battle for a new home on the Earth’s surface has begun and the occupants of the airships Hive and Deliverance are about to come face-to-face with the cannibal psychopath known as El Pulpo and his minions. All hell breaks loose in this 5th installment of the fantastic Hell Divers series. No spoilers here but you WILL be blown away by the climactic ending.
