South Shore’s bad boy surfer Beau Huntington has a solid plan to get through life: one night stands, copious amounts of alcohol, and walls so high no one can ever get in — it’s all about numbing the pain. And his plan’s working fine — until he meets Corrie Johnson. That’s when things begin to unravel. Because falling in love was never part of the plan.Angry, bitter and confused, Beau’s violent … violent temper lands him in trouble more often than not — but he’s about to learn that the fight of his life doesn’t involve his fists.
Hell Bent is a story that matters – about life, love and death.
It’s a story of how life can spiral out of control for those left behind.
And it’s a story of hope.
Hell Bent is Book 1 in the South Shore Beach series.

Absolutely loved it! What an amazing book!
A friendship that builds into something more. Beau and Corrie’s story was beautifully written. A love story that deals with many life changing issues and how people can move forward. A great read. Highly recommend!!
Beau has had it tough since he lost his brother. He seems to like to play just about i the edge for he doesn’t care about much now. That is until he meets Corrie and falls for her quickly. It’s still a rough road for both of them but they have some great times as well. This books has a lot of moments but it keeps you on your toes as you read through it. I love Rake and Alana and the parents of beau and corrie mom.
Hell Bent (South Shore Beach, #1) – kept me enthralled and turning the pages. I stayed up really late to finish it because I needed to know what happened. Beau is your typical bad boy – smokes, drinks, sleeps around, but he is the bad boy because of something that happened and that he saw in his life. He is spiralling out of control, and no one seems to know how to help him, possibly because his parents need to deal with their own grief as well. He has court and gets community service, but is told he needs to straighten up before he is 18 or he will be in jail. He has to work at a local pool and go to some AA meetings. His first day at the pool, he sees a beautiful young lady, Corrie. He tries to talk to her, but she kind of blows him off. He doesn’t give up and is surprised when he really wants to get to know her and go on a date with her. He has never been on a date before. Corrie eventually agrees to a “date”, but she chooses what they will do. They both know and admit they like the other. Corrie has some dark things that have happened in her life, but she opens up and tells Beau about them. Beau does not want to burden her with his life story. Will Beau be able to change his ways for Corrie? Will Corrie be able to forgive Beau for things in his past? There is much heart break in this book. Will Beau ever be able to face and deal with his grief over losing his brother Kane? I hated the way Liam treated Beau, and went out of his way to make him look bad in front of Corrie. But that also seemed to be the point Beau needed to get to to admit he needed help. This book has all the feels. At times I was a little surprised that these high school kids had all the freedom and liberties they did. I can not wait to read the second part of this, and to read more books by Karen Compton.
WHOA!! OH! MY!! HELL BENT by Karen Crompton BLEW ME AWAY!! It was So Beautifully Written with So much Obstacles in a Teenage Life of Beau Huntington. The Dark Secrets he keeps inside of himself without some help dealing with the emotional turmoil. Instead he rather self destruct and drag his family down with him.
Then one day comes along Corrie Johnson and knocks him off his stupor. She makes him want to become a Better Guy moving forward with his life with her along his side.
Their Storytelling was such an Emotional Rollercoaster Ride of Epic Proportions and Loved Every Minute of This BOOK!!
A MUST READ and CANNOT WAIT for More from Karen Crompton!!
Hell Bent is a story that definitely takes you by surprise. It’s a love story of young adults both going through some serious and tough issues. It takes a look at love, loss, and family in a way that you can’t help but relate to at least one of the characters in it and love the other. Beau is the bad boy of the beach and school. Getting into trouble, drinking, sleeping around and surfing until he goes one step too far and ends up getting community service for his dues instead of a jail sentence. Corrie has a tough time at home and wants absolutely nothing to do with Beau even though she’s managed to catch his eye. Try as she might even she’s not immune to his charms. Maybe he will change for her… maybe he won’t. You have to read to find out if they end up together and are able to over come the major issues that are plaguing both of their young lives. This is one story you won’t be sorry you read till the end. Well done Karen Crompton! Well done!
Beau Huntington’s life turned upside down when he lost his brother Kane and now he is spiraling out of control with drinking and violence but it has finally caught up with him. Now Beau must pay for his mistakes with community hours and AA meetings.
Yet nothing changes his life until he meets Corrie Johnson who makes him see things differently and turns his world upside down.
But demons can be hard to overcome and will Corrie be enough to give Beau the strength to turn his life around?
This was a really good book that tackles so many issues.
I liked Beau as I knew deep down he was hurting so much from events of the past that he was afraid to get attached to anything and just didn’t know how to deal with everything that he went through. It was also clear that Beau really didn’t think he had any issues and never wanted to open up to anyone.
Corrie was interesting in that she had her own past and had to work hard with her swimming. She wasn’t looking for a relationship and it seemed to distract her a little from her goals. I liked her strong nature and she was someone who truly cared about those around her.
It was clear that Corrie was a great influence on Beau but the demons that Beau had inside him were still so strong and he had to figure out for himself how to overcome them all. There were a few times when he was acting with his fists which really bothered Corrie.
I was so mad at Liam for revealing things and I felt bad that Beau never spoke about them to Corrie before hand. I knew why he was worried but he really needed to trust Corrie and he never gave her that opportunity.
I loved when Beau realized what he needed to do and put his life back together for himself!
The end was awesome and very sentimental!! Loved it!
This was my first time reading Karen Crompton and so happy I jumped in and read this roller coaster of a 2 part series. I was in from the start to finish. I loved the journey of Beau meeting Corrie. It was a dark sad heartbreaking story but love how they grew and blossomed in the story. I would highly recommend this series.
Such a great book absolutely loved it
This book was definitely an emotional read however is was fantastic. It’s about first love and loss. I literally stayed up all night just to see how this story ended and trust me, you won’t be disappointed. This is my first book by this author but it definitely won’t be my last. I am looking forward to what comes next from this author. Definitely recommended.
Wow! My heart ached for both Corrie and Beau. Corrie is a girl who caught the eye of Beau. She’s in a different school than Beau but both fell for each other. Beau has a lot of messed up feelings that he needs to deal with but is afraid to do it till he losses the one thing that meant the world to him. Corrie was Beau everything. He lived and breathed for her but kept her in the dark about his brother Kane and his past and why he is going to meetings and not really working at the pool. The truth always comes out but how you deal with it is what matters. Great book.
Hell Bent by Karen Crompton was the first book I have read from this author and I enjoying reading it and look forward to reading more. This is a well written YA romance. Beau is a typical bad boy who is dealing with some dark but real life issues. Once he meets Corrie his world changes. This was an emotional read that will make you sad and make you smile. I look forward to the next book.
This was a very angsty read about a family that doesn’t know how to deal with the death of a loved one. Even though Beau and Corrie are the main characters, you get to see how Beau’s family deals with the death of his brother and it’s chaotic and out of control. Beau drinks, fights and screws to deal with his problems until Corrie comes around and changes his world. This story is well written and heartbreaking. You will definitely be left with lots of feels after reading.
