Sometimes, you’ve got to take a job with the devil to pay the bills…
Too bad I learned too late the devil wears Armani, is the most uptight man in the history of history, and I just signed an unbreakable contract shackling me to his pompous royal side for the summer.
But God, he’s got this British accent that makes my panties melt.
Until the words he says catch up with my brain and make me … with my brain and make me want to throw one of his precious vases at his head.
One minute we’re fighting—and the next—we can’t keep our hands off each other. Because somehow, when Mr. Blue Eyes is kissing me, he makes me forget how much he annoys me.
And that starts a whole new level of complications I. Don’t. Need.
Cuz if you dance with the devil, someone’s gonna end up getting burned…

What a fun story! I was so entertained by Natalie. I love her quirkinesses and her history rants. I love that she is just a wholesome woman who never backed down and who was herself the entire story. The way that these two interact was fun to read. You could feel the chemistry right from the start. Gavin….swoon! Lord Gavin was a solid sexy character. I loved how he thought he could control his thoughts. But once he starts to feel more…..we get one beautiful happily ever after.
Side characters who you love! Side characters who you want to throat punch. We get everything we love in a romance and more in this book. I enjoyed everything about it.
Highly recommended.

Natalie Reeder has a degree in History and is without a steady job to help pay for her mother’s medical bills. When she meets the intriguing Gavin Webley on the internet after advertising a product, he soon offers her a job in England, to be the curator and catalog the antiques that his Great Aunt Sarah collected.
The first meeting between them is fun and when Natalie arrives at the “castle”, she is fascinated with all the history that exists there. Gavin is intrigued by her knowledge and passion for the job.
And soon the two begin to spend time together, but Gavin decides to move away so as not to create problems for either of them. However, the attraction between them is bigger than they imagined and they will have to deal with interference from society and Gavin’s parents.
I loved the story and the characters. I highly recommend the reading.
This is a slow burn read that I found
quite enjoyable.
Strong plot that I found a little slow to
start off with but towards the end it picks
up.
The chemistry is great between the characters.
I like to read to stories with a smart and sassy heroine, and who doesn’t fall head over heels the first time she meets the hero. I also like an alpha hero who is a snob, cold, and an “arse” on the outside but is kindhearted behind that stiff upper lip. If you enjoy this type of protagonists, then you’ll like Heired Lines, my first novel written by Magan Vernon.
This is a slow burn romance between Lord Gavin Webley, a British royalty, and Natalie Reeder, an American curator – rich boy/poor girl romance. Yes, this type of plot has been written in so many novels and sometimes it feels so trite, but not this novel. I find Ms. Vernon’s writing refreshing – mixing history, family dynamics, bonding, and the love of dogs!
Natalie has a wealth of knowledge about European antiquities, which prompted Lord Gavin to hire her to clean out and curate some of the objects in his family’s estate – the Webley manor, which he inherited from his Great Aunt Sarah. Natalie saw this job offer as a way to pay her debt from her mother’s medical bills. She took the position, traveled to Webley, England, and left her younger sister to care for their mother that summer. There is no denying that there is chemistry between Natalie and Lord Gavin when they first met at a pub in Webley’s train station. However, it took a while for both of them to realize it was more than the chemistry between them. I did say it is a slow burn, right?
Forget foreplay Vernon goes right for the heart. Heired Lines is a sassy temptation that humors readers with dialogue that proves to be full of sassy delight. Gavin and Natalie waltz their way into the bloodstream, but once they get there, there will be no walking away.
4 Stars!
Having read Ms.Vernon’s work before I’ve been meaning to pick up more of her books! So when I read the synopsis for this one I knew that I needed to read it next! Once I started it I didn’t want to turn away from my kindle and I had to finish reading it all in one sitting. This was such an enjoyable read for me!
From the memorable way these two were brought into each other’s lives to their conversations, and everything in between, Natalie and Gavin’s journey was one of a kind! They made me smile so many times and blush as well.
The more I kept on reading, I loved how I fell even more for these two characters. I couldn’t get enough of the history aspect and what it brought to the story!
With Heired Lines, Ms.Vernon has created such a wonderful and unique read! It’s my new favorite of hers! I can’t wait to read more of her books in the future!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
This might have been my first book by Magan but I’m floored at her attention to detail. I felt like I was right there while reading. Gavin and Natalie’s story was fun, sexy, and flawless. Why is it that English men are so full of themselves or is it just men of privileged. It always takes a woman not from there class to show them how life and relationships should be.
I really liked how this wasn’t too similar to other royal reads, it stands out on its own and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gavin err I mean Lord Gavin is torn between how he should act and wanting to be his own person, so when Natalie grabs his attention with how she knows her stuff with history and antiques little does he know how much more torn between world he will be. I loved how neither Natalie or Gavin knew to act at times around each other and try to keep thing professional but he gets drawn into her world without knowing it at times. You also get drawn into their world seeing if they will act or admit their feelings or just keep hiding their truths and Gavin toeing the line as is expected from him. There are plenty of laughs, cute dogs, meddling and sweet families as well as a slow burn romance that has you needing to know things will turn out right for Gavin and Natalie!!!
Cute story by a new author to me. Gavin and Natalie’s story was a super super slow burn but the humorous undertones to the book made it enjoyable. Gavin mainly kept his distance cause he knew that her being a commoner there wasn’t any hope and if he ever forgot he was reminded over and over again.
Heired Lines was my first Magan Vernon novel and I enjoyed it. British vs American, royalty vs commoner, this romance between the British Lord of Webley and the American antiques curator he hired, was a sweet, heart warming, slow burn romance that will at times have you laughing aloud.
Natalie and Gavin were engaging, likable characters. I loved how Gavin was protective over Natalie and I loved her sweet, caring personality. They had great chemistry from the start and you will be rooting for them throughout the story.
With back and forth banter, family drama, and the inclusion of some awesome rescue dogs I enjoyed this royal romance and would recommend it to all lovers of contemporary romance.
Hot British nobility…check, young American spitfire…check, a bunch of cute and adorable puppies living their best life on the castle grounds…check. This book had all of these things along with a great romance to boot. I can not say enough great things about this book! This was the slow burn I never realized I needed. We first meet Natalie as she is working her way through flea markets trying to find a rare gem to sell on her eBay page in order to help pay down her mother’s medical bills. Little does she know when she posts a rare vase that a noble Lord from across the pond would respond challenging her history and knowledge about the place this vase is from, Webley. The Lord, Gavin Webley, is looking for a curator to come in and catalog the vast amount of antiques that his Great Aunt Sarah had collected. Little does he know that this spit fire from America would be there to not only work on the castle but also his heart.
This was such a slow burn I found myself screaming at my IPad for Gavin to just kiss Natalie already that when it finally happened I was cheering for them in the best way. The way Natalie held her own not only with Gavin but also with the rest of his family had me smiling from ear to ear and cheering her on. I really hope Megan decides to give Hugh and Cecily stories as well. I would love to see them get their HEA’s as well as be able to catch up on what is going on with the Lord and Lady of Weble (and of course Ponce too).
Thank you to netgalley and Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review. .
With a masters’s in history, there is no denying that Natalie Reeder loves history. It is with her knowledge that she is able to spot items that might be valuable and that’s exactly what she finds at a flea market. When Natalie posts the item up for sale on eBay, she quickly gets an email from a rather pushy person wanting to know more about the item and her qualifications. This would lead to them exchanging emails and to her surprise he offers her a job. A temporary summer position as his curator to help clean out his family’s estate in Webley, England.
If there is something that she has always wanted to do is to personally experience all the history that she has been studying for so long. So she takes the leap of faith she has been dying to do and accepts. Little did she know that by working for Gavin Webley would her life forever.
I enjoyed the overall concept of the story, it was interesting and the chemistry between the characters was off the charts. It’s clear from the very beginning that their is a sexual chemistry between them, but Natalie has to remind herself that she works for Gavin and there can’t be anything else between them. As the two start to get to know more about each other and about his family’s history, there are obstacles that they both must conquer if they truly want a future together. I found myself liking Gavin, he is kind and protective over Natalie. On the other hand, Natalie has caring and smart personality. The town itself was interesting and how it’s important to Gavin’s family. I do wish the author could have added more details towards the end of the story, it felt a bit rushed for me. All in all, if you love a quick romance with some royal history involved than I would highly recommend checking out Heired Lines.

This book was a really cute read.
From their first email exchange it was easy to see Natalie and Gavin’s connection. Natalie has a love for history and antiques so she was perfect to catalog the contents of the estate Gavin inherited.
As they spent time together, Gavin and Natalie grew closer despite the big differences in their lives. I thought Magan Vernon did a nice job creating characters that are relatable and genuine, especially Natalie. Gavin seems a bit stuffy at first glance but he is a good person with a big heart.
Both Gavin’s siblings and Natalie’s sister are part of the book and I hope we also get their stories!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I love a good royal romance and this one was amazing! As a history buff myself I really identified with Natalie (who was just adorable!) and the slow burn romance with Gavin was off the charts! I could definitely see this as a Hallmark movie, complete with a pretentious, overbearing family we love to hate and an amazing couple you can’t help but root for. This is one of those funny, sweet, feel-good books that leave you with a smile on your face and a happy heart and I loved every page. I can’t wait to read more from this author!
I received a complimentary ARC – early release copy of this book in Kindle format from the author for review purposes.
This is a modern telling of a family of royals. It does not paint royals in a good light. It stars Lord Gavin who has inherited his aunts home and all her treasures, and Natalie a young woman from North Carolina who is a historian and also who needs money badly.
Gavin hires her to come to England and tag all his aunts treasures for the towns historical society. Gavin is seriously sweet, kind and cute and even his brother is very sweet. And the maids and employees at the estate are kind. But Gavin’s mother, father, sister and assorted friends are horrible. They make the nobility in England seem pretentious and mean spirited.
This is a standalone story that takes place in England. I really liked both Natalie and Gavin. But this is also a VERY slow burn story. Only the last few chapters of the story do they even kiss. Mostly because Gavin is Natalie’s boss and he knows his family would object. While I dont typically like slow burn stories, this really worked as Gavin has all the power in this relationship and they wait until they cannot resist anymore.
When Natalie’s offered the job of her dreams, of course she takes it. Not only will it give her much needed money to pay down her mother’s medical bills, but it will give her the opportunity live in England and work with antiquities – her passion. And she gets to stay in a castle. AND her new boss is a gorgeous Lord. Swoon!
But alas it’s not to be all smooth sailing because Gavin’s mother cannot have her son with a *gasp* poor American commoner, so she does her level best to keep them apart. It doesn’t matter that it’s obvious Natalie and Gavin have serious feelings for each other, his mother only sees her common status. Will Gavin let his mother keep them apart?
Heired Lines is such a sweet, slow burn story with a little heat, a sexy Brit (love me some British men!) and a sweet heroine. What more could you need in a good quarantine timed read?
*ARC kindly provided via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.*
You know me, I love royal romances, so I couldn’t pass this book without giving it a try! I have to say that it was definitely a winner! The cover was the one that piqued my interest at first, and the story was what kept me reading!!
Natalie is a historian, struggling to pay her mom’s medical bills. History always excited her, so when she receives an email from a stranger offering her a job in England, she can’t decline. This is her chance to do what she loves and earn enough money to help her mom. Lord Gavin Webley couldn’t anticipate the change that an American woman would bring into his life. When he offered Natalie the job, he couldn’t fathom the connection they’d have.
I really enjoyed the story! I could feel their connection and I was rooting for them from the start. Lord Gavin is definitely a favorite character and I must say that the cover model fits his description perfectly!! Natalie’s excitement about history was apparent and it made me want to search more about all the history facts. My favorite part of the manor has to be the puppies! I mean who wouldn’t love to have more than 30 puppies running around and spread joy!!!
My first book from the author was a winner! I really liked her writing style and I’ll make sure to check out more of her books! If you are looking for a sweet royal romance with an undeniable chemistry between the characters, you found it!
Natalie needs to make money quick to help her mother pay her medical bills. When she receives a random job offer halfway around the world, she can’t say no, even if their first interactions rubbed her the wrong way.
Gavin, the new Lord of Webley, needs a curator to clean out the manor he has inherited. He’s completely intrigued by the newly graduated historian he comes across online and offers her a job on a whim.
American co-ed and English nobility . . . they can never be a match, but their attraction is too much for either one of them to ignore. The more they try to ignore it, the hotter it burns. Flirtations and witty conversations soon start to turn into more. But, how can two people from such opposite worlds with very different expectations have a happy ever after?
Heired Lines was my first Magan Vernon book, and I am hooked! It was an amazing slow burn with a truly delicious push and pull between the main characters, Gavin and Natalie. I absolutely adored his couple.
Gavin is really fighting to escape the expectations his parents have for him and instead to be his own man. It’s clear how much he cares for the manor he inherited along with the town his new title makes him lord over. He wants to be a good role model and leader for Webley without giving in to the pretentiousness of his station.
Natalie is super sweet and still somewhat innocent in a way. I adored her genuine love for history and how she can’t help but to share it with anybody and everybody that will listen. It’s clear she cares for Gavin as a man, and not for his money or things, even though his money would have solved all of her problems.
Gavin’s mother, of course, has plans to do whatever she can to make sure a relationship between this pair doesn’t happen, and it’s up to Gavin to find a way to make things right and to fight for who and what he wants as the Lord of Webley! And, the ending is a real show stopper! 5 stars!
4 stars
Heired Lines is a stand alone book by new-to-me author, Magan Vernon. This story was a sweet, slow build romance between an American historical curator and the Lord who hires her to catalogue the many artifacts in the manor he inherited. The story has many cute moments as the both out awkward each other on occasion and definitely highlights the many differences between Americans and the rest of the world. While it was very cute, I found the story lagged in the middle and I usually expect more heat with my romances (our first kiss was about 80% into the book).
If you’re looking for a lighter read, this is a good choice.
