What Would You Sacrifice to Save Mankind?
The great city of Thyra has fallen and shadows spread across the land. Rowen Mar, the last Truthsayer, is taken before the Shadonae. But the Shadonae are not who she thought they were, and now they want to claim her as their own.
Caleb Tala, former assassin and prince, is now a Guardian of mankind. Exiled from his country, Caleb wanders the desert in … wanders the desert in search of his mother’s past and clues to who he is.
These are the last days of the Eldaran race. Rowen and Caleb must find their way along the dark path set before them by their ancestors: to heal what was wounded and love where hatred grows. But the road is narrow and the darkness beckons. If either of them fails, all will be lost…
And the human race will be no more.
Book three of the Follower of the Word series.
more
Heir of Hope is the 3rd and final installment in the Follower of the Word trilogy. Rowan struggles with the truth about who she is vs. the Shadonae and realizes they aren’t as different as she once believed. Lore is desperate to find and rescue her. Neirne follows along, assisting those who are willing to get into Thyrnas, and Caleb must choose whether to follow the Word or return to his roots.
As I hoped, the final book wrapped up the series nicely with a satisfying ending. We learn more about the Eldaran and Shadonae, but I will admit to being a little disappointed with Caleb and Nierne’s stories. Caleb’s temptation could have been stronger, more difficult to fight and I wish there was more about Neirne’s background. The focus on her deep red curls that no one, not even others from Thyrna’s seemed to possess, made me think there was something special about her, too. Perhaps not an Eldaran, but something. And the budding romance was satisfied, but a little too quickly at the end.
But, I realize my complaints are due to the fact that I was invested in the story. I loved the depths of the characters. Each became familiar to me, and I wanted more.
If you enjoy faith-filled fantasy tales in other worlds with different races, where heroes must choose to stand and fight for what is right and never give up despite the odds, the Follower of the Word trilogy is for you. From Daughter of Light, to Son of Truth, through the end of Heir of Hope, you will be satisfied.
What a very beautiful and satisfying ending to this series!
I was once again amazed by Rowen’s faith in the Word. She has never strayed from Him and in HEIR OF HOPE her faith was definitely tested. Her faith was so inspiring because even in the mist of evil and wanting to save herself, she didn’t leave the path that the Word asked of her. What Rowen did for the people of Thyra was absolutely beautiful. That kind of selfless love created tears running down my face.
It was also amazing to see how much Caleb grew in this one! He is totally a different man compared to when I first was introduced to him! I loved how he strived with all his heart to serve the Word in a way that was honorable.
Besides being moved about Rowen staying strong in her faith and willing to give her life selflessly, I was very strongly moved by Lore’s forgiveness towards Caleb. The way he forgave was so eye-opening to me and brought comfort in that I do not have to live with open wounds in a relationship with someone, but can heal.
I definitely recommend this series to readers of fantasy. HEIR OF HOPE was the perfect ending with full of action and faith. It was epic and beautiful all at the same time.
