Cowritten by USA Today best-selling author Tara Sivec and award-winning narrator Andi Arndt, a hysterically funny, heartfelt romance about starting over and taking chances.Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought … thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born.
Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life reading erotic novels to the listening world. And with each episode, I find myself embracing my new alter ego more and more. Now I’m starting to feel more comfortable in my own skin and do things I never would have dreamed of – like kissing my neighbor.
Look out, Waconia, because Heidi’s on the loose! She’s in your ears, in your hearts, and down your pants…wait, that didn’t sound as good as it did in my head. Well, you get the picture, don’tcha know!

Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words, by Tara Sivec and Andi Ardnt, is a hilariously funny romcom about a twenty-four-year-old kindergarten teacher. After losing her job molding young minds, she is about to lose her own when faced with telling her mother about her new place of employment. Never mind that she lives in a small Minnesota town, where everyone knows everyone, when her mother finds out that she’s working for an audio production company that reads lady porn, she will surely be disowned. Heidi feels lost, doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life, and can’t even work up the nerve to tell the hottie next door she likes him. Floundering with what to do next, she sorts through a box of media equipment castoffs and tells her sorrows to the world in a podcast that is sure to burn the ears off her blog listeners. Suddenly she is out of the box…or maybe just out of box wine. This is a wholesome love story with some naughty page turners that will have you laughing out loud. This book was so cute and funny! I loved Heidi’s journey of discovering herself. She was absolutely hilarious and it cracked me with with every situation she got herself into. I was happy when she kinda came out of her shell and started speaking up for herself more. Definitely an audiobook I’d listen to again!
Andi was the perfect choice for narrating this book. Really a fabulous performance throughout this book. She really made me giggle every time she would do Heidi’s podcast intro. “Doo doo doo!!!”
You guys, this book is one of the FUNNIEST books I have ever listened to! I mean I was laughing so hard as I was driving sometimes that I’m sure people in the cars around me thought I was crazy or having a fit. So much about this that I connected to, like her feelings about teaching at the end of her time, her love of Lularoe dresses, I just can’t even. But honestly there were so many funny things, Dirty Talking Malibu Barbie, why he was reading the word “pump”, the thing she hears him saying in his house and what she does with the pizza that the delivery kid has, her dirty alphabet, her boobs being sad, reading the book for instructions, so so funny. Her parents trying the things in the books, her tying him up, oh my gosh. I think she was a bit crazy to be so mad at him, but again, drama, to go with the comedy in this one. Loved it so much. I’ll probably have to buy a physical copy of this one at some point. Great story. Also loved narrator Andi Arndt’s Minnesotan accent.
The audiobook for Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words by Tara Sivec and Andi Arndt needs all the stars. I absolutely loved it. I devoured it and could not stop listening to it. It was funny and had all the best feels. Though there is a romance in this story, the story is truly about Heidi Larsen. She is smart, funny, vulnerable and sheltered. She wants to live her life for herself but is afraid to step out of her comfort zone.
But give her a box of wine and an old podcast set-up and she finds herself on a path of rediscovery and getting out of her comfort zone. Her journey will make you laugh but will also give you some of the best feels. She is quiet, shy and awkward. Finding her way is not easy, but she has some great friends along the way and a sweet man who likes her just the way she is. But can she trust herself enough to go after what she wants?
Narrated by Andi Arndt, Heidi’s Guide to Four Letters Words was an absolutely amazing audio. She brings Heidi and her journey to life in all the best ways possible. This is one of my top audio books ever and one of the best stories of the year! I highly recommend this one!
Listened and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Club.
Happy listening!
The most fun I have ever had listening to a book and I love audio books! Laugh out loud funny with lots of steamy. I can’t wait to listen to it again and again.
I absolutely adored the audiobook of Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words! It was hilarious, perfectly narrated, refreshingly original, and 100% entertaining! It was impossible not to love every single minute of it. I was sold at tater tots!
Heidi was a freaking delight! She’s unique, quirky, a bit naive, and completely adorable. The story had everything I love about romcoms. There was romance, so many laughs my side ached, and plenty of shenanigans. I can’t remember the last time I had so much listening to an audiobook! Tara Sivec and Andi Arnt have penned my favorite romcom of the year!
Narration was done by Andi Arndt and it was PERFECTION! That Minnesota accent was ALL THE THINGS! She brought Heidi to life flawlessly as well as all the side characters. Also, I will never get over how swoony her male voice is. Brent became instantly hotter because Andi narrated him so well. This audiobook was credit-worthy, swoon-worthy, and 5 stars all the way!
This author does not disappoint and always writes a romance that has me laughing in hysterics. Heidi’s antics were OTT and some scenes I just wanted to cringe at how awkward and inexperienced she was, but it was a good laugh. The things that came out of her mouth was wild. The parts when she was doing her podcast and trying to read dirty scenes of romance books was the funniest moments ever.
EDITED: I had been wanting to do a re read of this book for a while now, and decided this was the perfect day for fall back into Heidi’s world and escape with some laughs. I added the ebook this time to read along with. Perfect for me.
I started listening to this book late one night tucked up in bed and I had to stop as I was shaking with laughter and waking my husband at 2am in the morning. I caught some shut eye and picked it straight back up again first light. It was one of the funniest books I have listened to in a long time. The Amish romance novels……
Heidi is a small town gal who had a slightly sheltered upbringing and finds herself in a difficult situation. So she sets about discovering all sorts of new things to educate herself and come out of her shell. One of the benefits is that she can now talk to the sexy shirtless neighbor, well in time she does.
This story is about a quirky young woman finding her feet in a new job and gaining the confidence to become the person she was always meant to be. There is a sweet romance between her and the neighbor and forming new friendships. Some of it was a little far fetched but it did make for plenty of laughs and giggles. I have walked away from this book with the biggest smile on my face and telling my book buddies they need to listen / read this book pronto!
Audio Review from September 2019
This book was not your typical romance book. It was more of one woman’s journey through finding herself along with finding her way through her first true relationship!
So.much.fun! And so freaking hilarious!
There was a point while listening towards the end that I was doubling over with laughter which was really hard since I was driving!
Andi absolutely nailed this performance! It was just perfect!
This. was. HILARIOUS! I mean, what a hoot! It was so entertaining to see Heidi come out of her shell! And you get to experience the glory of her innocence and awkwardness. AHHH, it was just perfect, unique, adorable, I can’t get enough.
Heidi will make you laugh the entire book. She is so sweet and innocent and clueless you can’t help but want to help her. I absorbed this book pretty quickly, wanting to know what her next podcast would contain. If you need a quick read, with laugh out loud comedy in a rom-com, this is a book for you.
If you are looking for a laugh-out-loud story filled with crazy moments, interesting predicaments and hysterical writing than grab Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words!
What happens when a shy woman works on discovering herself through wine driven podcasts using steamy romance novels, and talks about the hot, sexy neighbor that she is attracted to? Well you will have you will have to read or may I highly suggest listen to the audio version of this book because Andi Arndt took this all ready humorous story to the next level!
Hilarious with a great storyline. I loved both Heidi and Brent and I adored their craziness with their constant word vomit. The supportive characters were just as amazing. So many laugh out loud moments.
My new favorite book! I listened in audio and the narrator is amazing!
I just adore Tara’s books and her writing. I own everyone of her books in Kindle, Paperback, and Audio. Her audiobooks are some of my favorite to date, and I have listened to them several times. Her writing with Andi was seamless. Their “voices” blended together so perfectly. Andi’s debut book is a hit for me. I look forward to following her both in audio and writing.
This hilarious story of Heidi Larson, a teacher turned podcast host, was full of all the feels. It’s laugh out loud funny, and full of so many situations that left you in tears from beginning to end. I loved following Heidi from her shy self to blossoming into a confident woman.
This has to be one of my favorite audiobooks to date. Do yourself a favor and listen to this one now. You won’t be disappointed!
Another fun rom-com co-authored by Tara Sivec and audiobook narrator Andi Arndt who happens to be one of my favorite narrators. I listened to this book on Audible and found it quite humorous. A new take on the boy and girl live next door to each other trope, Heidi is a 25-year-old schoolteacher who is socially awkward and has a hard time seducing men. Recently laid off from her job teaching kindergarten she lands a job at an audio publishing company where they publish erotic romances. A first she is quite embarrassed by the over-the-top language she hears, but quickly sees she can use it to her advantage on her hot new next-door neighbor Brent. She accidently starts a podcast called “Heidi’s Discount Erotica where she drunkenly practices saying sex words. Much hilarity ensues especially when you throw in her interfering mother, handyman father, and helpful new friends. The funniest line in the whole book was near the end when Brent says, “It was a full-size Serta, thank you very much, and I’m still wounded it never called me back.” Trust me it was funny. I gave it three and one-half stars rounded up to four.
Simply delightful
As a longtime fan of Prairie Home Companion, I was enchanted by this audiobook. The Lutherans! The hot dishes! The politeness! I lost count of the number of laugh out loud moments and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Andi Arndt is funny and delightful as the dorky Heidi, but also brings gravity and charm to Heidi’s next-door neighbor crush, Brent. I can’t stress enough how delightfully funny this audiobook is!
This was hilarious. Heidi is shy, naive and has been so sheltered from living. A Previous elementary school teacher now trying to build confidence to help her in approaching guys mainly her hot neighbor.
How she is building her confidence? By facing fears via her own podcast.
It is a very funny awkward book.
The narration for audiobook was good, enjoyable. Go author Andi does it and she is pretty hilarious.
This book is awesome! It really is a book about a woman finding out who she really is and what makes her happy all while lining over a guy and finding the courage to ask him out. All while you have some really funny characters and and really cool new job that takes you out of your comfort zone. This book will bring you so many laughs!
Wow. I could not stop laughing. This was hilariously funny with Tara Sivec’s witty humor shining through. If I had read this it wouldn’t have been as funny as listening to Andi Arndt voice this. She narrated this perfectly putting emphasis on the funny.
Even with all the funny it is still a romance through and through and made my heart full. The laughs were just the icing on the cake. It was quirky and awkward with sexiness and romance. It was unique and just the perfect listen to put that extra smile on your face. Just a light and fluffy read with little angst that you’ll be glad you picked up.
