I’ve been raised as the good, obedient daughter, but I never expected to be sold to pay my father’s debts. Cold. Rough. Merciless. The foreman of the construction crew is going to make me pay every last cent.WARNING: Heavy Equipment is a quick and dirty standalone novella. If you like your fictional men filthy, this one’s for you!
This was a deliciously decadent ‘sold for a debt read’! Asher and June waste no time on formalities, as the heat sizzles between them. We get their dirty, sexy, moments, and that inevitable HEA, as the emotions catch up with them. A quickread with a high handed, and completely possessive leading male – yes please!
The good obedient daughter honors her fathers debt with her body. An arrangement was made with a wealthy construction worker.
Asher Cook is a crude dirty talking man who can’t wait to make June his.
June Li is the obedient daughter used to barter the debt. She always been proud to carry her fathers name. She’s always known she was raised to be a society wife. However, she hadn’t expected the arrangement her father made with Asher.
Skye delivers another dark taboo romance with her naughty words and broken characters who desire the forbidden sex. It was an okay read. The sex scenes are becoming all to familiar. The story is formulaic with the obedient female character ashamed of the pleasure being drawn from her body by a man she should despise. This was another story where Skye brings out the dirty in her female character with the help of a good looking man.
This is a quick and dirty novella. Skye delivered exactly what she set out to do.
Asher never actually lifts any heavy equipment eventhough he is a construction worker.
This book pretty much threw me for a loop. It’s about the Kim family who are well known and respected. They own businesses, have lots of money, and I get the sense while reading that they’re a bit of a common household name.
June Kim is the epitome of an obedient daughter. She does whatever it takes to please her father and keep up appearances for her family name. Little does June know, her father is losing money left and right. One evening a man named Asher Cook shows up demanding June come with him as payment for her father’s debts to him. Talk about a mind blowing situation.
This is where things get kooky in my opinion. Asher makes this big show about how June is going to “service” him to pay off the money owed. The thing is, June secretly has no issues with this. She ends up enjoying the situation she’s in…..that’s where the book takes a nose dive for me. Also there were some kinky moments that I’m just not a fan of.
Overall, I thought I would feel sorry for June throughout the story but she was onboard for pretty much everything that happened. At one point, even Asher calls her dangerous. I can’t say this book is for me but maybe you’ll enjoy it?
I love Asher and June. He takes her from her family as payment. He’s wanted her for so long. I love how alpha make he is.
I found it had a good plot
but a bit short to get to know the characters
Wish it was a bit longer.
4 STARS
I loved how Asher was so dominating and had no issues showing June how depraved he is. Not that the oh so innocent June had a problem with it, in fact she more than loved it. This novella may have been a quick read, but it was dark and dirty just how I like it.
Heavy Equipment by Skye Warren is a MUST read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!
I first listened about Asher and June on the Read Me Romance podcast and loved their story. I’m so happy I downloaded the book because I got the extra little scene where Samantha is introduced. Hot, short and sweet!
The first time I read this book was when I listened to the audio version through the Read Me Romance podcast, and I just knew I was going to be rereading it when the ebook came out. So here I am. And it even has one more chapter or two and and epilogue.
This book is so. Freaking. Hot.
I have no words.
Ready to read it again, that’s how good it is.
I was my first time reading Skye Warren and I need more. ASAP
For a dark erotic novella, this was very mediocre. I much preferred Gaijin by Remittance Girl and Trust Game by Kitty Thomas. Oh, and My Stranger by Lola White was a great dark erotic novella too.
A few of the sex scenes were exciting, but I was mostly bored. Despite the dubcon set-up this wasn’t very dark. The premise of a daughter of a wealthy family being ‘sold’ to a man bailing out her father’s business reminded me too much of The Pawn. Heavy Equipment came across as uninspired, it’s easy to see why the author is giving this away for free.
Super hot and heavy, Asher Cook is one smoking construction foreman. He lust after June when she is promised as a debt offer. The dynamic between these two is off the chart and you see little miss perfect June turn into a sultry, lady. Asher is a beast when it comes to June and you can tell the love he has for her.
June Li can not imagine that her life is about to change drastically. Negotiated by her father as payment for a debt, Asher Cook arrives in a night to claim his property. A Chinese woman raised to be a perfect lady, attending gala dances always well-dressed and making a suitable wedding arranged by her father. A rich man, but who escapes from the aristocratic profile, who works hard to have his assets, being foreman of construction. Two people from opposite worlds. But they are united by a debt.
The book is short, with only six chapters and I can say that it is an erotic short novel Unfortunately the book did not please me. The reading was surreal. The protagonist is created to be a “good girl” demure and virgin and suddenly becomes a super sensual and eroticized person. The romance is non-existent, she is taken of her house at night and taken to Asher’s house who informs in a very pejoratively language that she will pay her father’s debt with her body. Sorry, several negative alarms sounded right now.
The final scene in the bathroom despite making sense with the plot was strange in the least. Losing her virginity in a bathroom of a construction with several employees on the outside runs away from the ideals of common sense.
Maybe if it were rather a book, with more development, more of the protagonists, it would be easier to accept Asher’s feelings for June. Everything is very fast, the space of time is a day and a night, it is difficult to see Asher as a man in love and not as a man who buys a woman.
The sex scenes are well written (if you disconnect from the context), Asher is very dominant, June is a moron and her father is deplorable. It had its merit, but it did not please me. I expected more.

Heavy Equipment by Skye Warren was short but oh so deliciously sexy! She did a fantastic job conveying Asher and June’s story in a limited number of words. If you want something short and dirty this is the book for you!!
Alright, cue Fifth Harmony’s Work from Home. That’s what I had playing in my head while reading this story. It’s a short and fast tale but hot damn, it packs a punch. I want to find my own Asher Cook because oh boy… Heavy Equipment indeed. I wish there was more of this story! But I enjoyed every second of it.
Heavy Equipment by Skye Warren is a dark, erotic novella told from the single point of view of the main character. When her father uses her to pay off a debt, obedient June Li becomes the property of menacing construction foreman, Asher Cook. This story where dubious consent leads to happily ever after is a very quick and dirty read.
Although I’ve been snapping up Skye Warren freebies for a while now and have several on my kindle, this is the first one I’ve read. While the storyline wasn’t my favorite, I really enjoyed the writing. I think a longer story with more plot and character development would have sold me on this storyline. I would definitely read this author again.
An intense and brutal start to a love that encompasses two unlikely people in a unlikely circumstance. June never saw Asher coming and then when he is in her face she can’t help but submit to him.
It was ok ,really short ,the characters were ok but i didn’t feel a connection to them.
this book was pretty much SEX SEX SEX !
Love can be built from duty
Wow! Wonderful story of a dutiful daughter actually finding herself & love. June & Asher’s relationship may have started for her out of duty and although Asher shows his rough side in the beginning, I truly believe him to be caring. I felt like he loved June from afar and used her fathers situation to his advantage to get the woman he longed for.
I knew this was a short novella. But it wasn’t good. No character development, inconsistent characters and story line. Just odd.
A quick hot read that’s jam packed with action. I did, however struggle with June’s apparent sudden change of mind about Asher
Downright dirty novella
June is the “good” girl for her father and as a Li has always respected that her duty to her father is of the utmost importance. One night expecting to go to a gala, she overheard noises and goes to investigate. What she finds is a man in a leather jacket with her father. Some disturbing truths are revealed but June finds herself whisked away by Asher, the mysterious man in leather.
I love how this book entwined with Overture slightly and that we meet up with our favourite violinist when she is first in Tanglewood for her rehearsals and makes friends with June
Great short story and downright dirty
